I love it when the big state schools ignore their best in-state players. NDSU benefits so often from this.

Frost needs that southern speed that made his offenses in the AAC so lethal. That way he wont have to cheat and still be ass.
I imagine NDSU alum receiver Allen Burrell may have helped push him north.

Charmar had 178 yards and a td Friday night vs #3 Bellevue. Lost 28 to 21

Since people are talking RB’s on another thread, here are the highlights from CharMar “Marty” Brown this season. He is the RB commit in this year’s recruiting class.
Last year’s recruiting class did not have a scholly RB, making Brown all the more interesting to watch. I could still see a smaller quick RB added to this class, but maybe the Coaches think they have that covered already on the roster - Gores or someone else

Re: 2023 Verbal: CharMar Brown AKA Marty
yes we've always liked this guy

That offense looks familiar - his OL his outstanding. I saw one play where they pitched it to him at the 15 and their OT blocked a LB out of the back of the end zone.

Re: 2023 Verbal: CharMar Brown AKA Marty
Like I’ve said—>recruit more dynamic RBs.
Reminds me of early FCS recruiting and watching games. I said/posited that we needed to recruit dual threat/athletic QBs.
Have we had some dynamic RBs? Yes. But we have for some reason migrated away from them.
-
Re: 2023 Verbal: CharMar Brown AKA Marty
We need some RBs that range from like 5’9” to 6’0” that have power and are shifty. Maybe they come in at 180 or so and work their weight up. This size RB has always been the best performers for the most part in history. People always over estimate height in RBs. I met dalvin cook tonight and he is a legit 5’9”. He seems pretty good. Emmitt smith same way. When I see us recruiting guys over six feet at RB I honestly get worried they can’t make anybody miss.

I would consider Kobe dynamic.

Bruce Anderson and possibly Dunn are the last 2 that come to mind for me.

He has become more dynamic as this season has gone on.

Yes—agreed and there are a few others of course.
My point/position is partly/also having dynamic RB depth.

TaMerik Williams is that guy. He was honorable mention All-MVFC despite only having 74 carries on the season. He was on NFL radars prior to the season and I suspect he will be this coming spring/summer as well as an undrafted free agent type prospect.

He’s fairly explosive and physical, but not my definition of dynamic.
A couple of others we have had are Brooks and the Tazz.

Yep, kinda forgot about Brooks and didn't mention Crockett as he was before Anderson and Dunn.

TMac is a bell cow with great straight line speed. In the open field he's gone but not shifty or able to zig zag through a defense like Ty Brooks did. Ty is probably top 5 all time for me. He's like a modern version of Tony Satter. Luepke doesnt have the straight line speed or shiftiness and he doesnt break a ton of long TDs but he's a red zone or short yardage stud
Crockett and Bruuuce were my definition of dynamic. Bruce was a great receiver too. Kobe has shown flashes

Agree for the most part on all of this, but will add that Luepke just has a sense/feel for where “soft” spots are when he is running down hill. Difficult to see and understand, but it’s there. And he also has illusive speed, and has shown many times breakaway speed. Also on Luepke: his performance against JMU in semis last year seems to get lost in shuffle. One of the best one-man shows we have ever seen IMO. He has a really good feel and sense when running wheel-route, which he did to perfection in JMU game. A lot of our other RBs just run the pattern with no instinct or adjustment. Some things can’t be taught. Intangibles IOW.

Agree with everything you said here except his sense for soft spots. When he is running downhill EVERYTHING is a soft spot IMHO.
Carry on.

Yeah—he has an “easiness” to his style, rarely takes a big hit, and finds extra yards. I personally would be pumped to see him play for us one last time, but fully understand and accept if it doesn’t happen. I’m also OK with never having had the “opportunity” to try to tackle him.
I enjoy physical football—>>First ballot NDSU HOF for me.

Agreed on Leupke. I think most (if not all NDSU fans) have a soft spot in their hearts for when he was going in for a touchdown against Montana State and instead of going to his left to avoid the contact he went right and trucked the DB. He had himself a day in the national championship too (14 carries for 82 yards and 3 TD's).
100% agree that I hope we get to see him suit up for NDSU again.

Re: 2023 Verbal: CharMar Brown AKA Marty
I too would really love to see Hunter strap it up again with Bison FB but only if he is fully healthy. Absent that I think I would rather see him leverage that Senior Bowl invite he has in hand.

I'll die on this hill but before he was injured Dunn was elite.

Agree - I think he could have been the best back we've had without that injury.

Yeah, Dunn was fantastic. And I second the opinion on Ty Brooks - dude was a modern-day Tony Satter.

Both Ty and Tony were fun to watch. The difference between the two is Ty's straight-line speed. But Tony was probably the most entertaining running back to watch in my 40 years of watching Bison football.

One of Dunn's best attributes: From Waterloo Iowa. Plucked him right out of Skeletor's backyard.

Re: 2023 Verbal: CharMar Brown AKA Marty
I often wonder what could've been had Seth Wilson been able to stay healthy. He had a chance to be as good as anyone IMO.

Agree! This will be the clip I will always remember when thinking of Luepke

Re: 2023 Verbal: CharMar Brown AKA Marty
Crockett and ojuri are the best of the D1 era in my opinion. Dunn and Brooks were great, but not at their level.

I’d take a a 3-deep depth chart that included any of the above 4.
That’s what I’ve been getting at re: recruiting more dynamic RBs.
