Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
Hearing rumors swirling of a $1 million Oregon Buyout.
Let's get this poll going. Will Oregon Wimp out & Buyout or no?
Let's put the pressure on them via our board shaming them into playing this game!
those non-refundable plane tickets would be tough to swallow.

Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
Found the thread started by Lakes. Didn't read it after the first few posts. It's the regular go to FBS team board and shit on them routine that Lakes has.

With a new QB and the starters they graduate it looks like next year could be a close game. That is enough for Oregon Chickens to buy it out. Let's see though.

If Oregon is back in the CFP or feel they will be close next year, not going to risk a loss early season. Thus the buyout rumor.
Are they concerned about a loss to the Bison. Probably. But more worried about protecting a possible CFP spot since they feel there are loaded again for a string of runs at a national championship like there were a few years back. Hell if they beat Auburn this fall or didn't play Auburn are they top four CFP today?
time will tell. But if one Pac 12 team decides not to play, can you count on any of them playing the bison?

Completely bass ackwards logic there. If they really think they have a chance at the CFP they're not going to be scared of any FCS team.
The more plausible explanation is if they think they have a chance at the CFP they'll buy out NDSU because they think it'll hurt their SOS. Of course that doesn't make much sense either because NDSU is better than the majority of G5 teams they could get but it's an excuse the ignorant masses could get behind. They also play Ohio St the week after so if they're really CFP material they'll start 2-0 with a good win and a fantastic win. I'll let you figure out which is which. ;)

Yeah, but this reads as educated guess, but is there real smoke here? In other words, inside word from Oregon or NDSU admin?

Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
I haven't heard any rumors here in Oregon about the Ducks buying out the game, but it would not shock me. They can afford the $1 M buyout, they can't afford getting their asses kicked at home on the first game of the year.

You member Michigan vs App State. I member. I do agree that they shouldn't buy out if they want to win the CFP.

A loss to Ohio State you can recover from. Look at this year and Auburn. A loss to NDSU, you don't recover from because it is view a lower tier win or loss for that matter.

He did send it but I don't know who it's from so I can't vouch how reliable it is. If it is reliable, they are saying it will be bought out.

I wish you could just blame Tatanka for this. :)
I got a text, but I obviously can't "out" my whistleblower.
maybe NDSU wants them to buy it out? $$$$$
my point in starting this thread is TO KEEP THIS GAME ON!!! I wanna beat the Ducks!!

I dont care either way, makes zero difference to me

Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
I recall the year before the Bison beat KSU on the road opener KSU was rated REALLY high (maybe #1 early to mid October the prior year) with a top ranked senior QB. Cant see this being much different. The Bison return a lot of talent next year. THIS is a game the Bison and Fans both need for a new BUZZ.
-
Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
If both NDSU and Oregon finish strong this year and Oregon buys out of this game I am confident there will be many negative articles about Oregon dropping the game by ESPN and other major sportswriters. Just will look bad to most sports fans as a top P5 school being afraid of losing to an FCS school.

Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
2012' Week 11 poll, BCS rating, K. State was #1 and rated #2 in the other three polls. Colin Klien was the QB and a Heisman hopeful. September of 2013' Bison beat KSU in home opener.

In a hypothetical reality where they were looking to buy out, would they tell Matt?
I can’t believe they’d be speculating about backing out of a contract with the party you’re backing out on

So zero concrete word on this this unless someone has a source at Oregon. Let's put this to bed.
(BTW, yes, if you were backing out, you would have to tell NDSU at some point... :) )

Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
IF this happens $1 Million isnt enough, these teams can buy-out coaching contracts in the millions and not bat an eye, 2.5M and the Bison listen... Heck, we could play UND twice and give them $300K to come to fargo twice, we'll even come get them with a nice big bus and give them a ride home (like a cheap date).

NDSU already agreed to the $1 Million in the contract for the buyout.
-
Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
Another thing, isnt the buy out part of the contract. Should be easy to check the numbers

Shucky Darn, that's a definate maybe than for sure.
-
Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
I wonder, did NDSU include the "One hand behind our back" option for $2M?
-
Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
Are people actually voting on this poll? Ha ha!
I did take the time to make a couple posts on that thread on the Oregon site.
-
Re: Will Oregon wimp out & buy out?
Considering the source of this idiot rumor, NO it's not happening.

NDSU isn't really in any position to dictate terms when scheduling FBS teams. Do you want even less FBS games? Because that's what demands like that will get you.

My actual opinion is Oregon will play this game and wants to play this game. It's a season opener against a decent Foe. It may even draw a decent or better than normal season opening crowd vs. a Montana team etc... Nationally I'm sure the Bison will peak some interest from OU fans. It may even get a decent slot with ESPN
