Get Hockey to NDSU thread

NDSU needs hockey

1. Mid major basketball is make the tourney every 3 or 4 years type deal. Plus, in our region, hockey draws better.

2. Title IX would be a problem. Women's hockey is a huge drain. However, if you took the difference between mens and womens hockey vs mens and womens hockey. I"d think hockey would be more profitable.

3. Niche sport. It's true, but we live in the middle of hockey country. So who cares, its not like NDSU regular season games are ever on ESPN.

4. Could Scheels arena house both Force and NDSU hockey

5. This is all the $70ish million question.

6. It seems stupid we have wrestling and baseball, but not hockey.

One reason is that lot of us don't give a s*** about hockey.

So hockey would make a tourney ever big assumption....would have to out recruit a lot of proven programs...
Hockey is a much higher input cost then Basketball so assuming a higher profit is a stretch
Hockey regular season wouldn't be on ESPN either sorry

Why does NDSU "need" hockey? Nowhere in your post did you backup that statement. Ndsu does not need hockey. /thread.

a startup program competiting with UND, St Cloud, UMD, UM, Mankato, Bemidji, in the area. Not a good idea. Makes more sense to focus on bball. /sameposteveryyear

I move we turn threads about NDSU getting NCAA hockies into a 'pay to post' thread.

Is the north Dakota state wrestling tourney on TV or live internet stream this year? Think it starts today. I don't pay attention to schools that don't have wrestling.

I think NDSU should add hockey. You don't have to agree with me, thats fine. Also, to you people who always bring up trolling, stop it. If you don't want read a thread about hockey don't read it.

I thought the thread should be back up. There are enough people out there who are interested in hockey, just don't know if they are on bisonville.

Your key demographic is all of us rich people on Bisonville who will donate to fund hockey. Poor people are not on Bisonville.

I would love to see D1 hockey but unless someone opens up their checkbook big time it ain't happening. I have no interest in taking money away from other programs.

I am of the belief that based on facilities that exist, the area we live in, and the fact programs like Duluth can win a National Championship... we could field a really good team relatively quickly. My entire family would never miss a hone game. But it would take huge amounts of cash to do it right.

Just think, we could play for a REAL DI championship and become a "name" college! Just look at some of these teams that have recently* made the Frozen Four: Union College, Quinnipiac, Ferris State, Bemidji, UMass-Lowell, St. Cloud State, Minnesota-Duluth, and Rochester Institute of Technology.

If you want it, start a donation drive, raise the money from the hockey crowd and present ndsu with a gift to not only start the program but fund it without hurting our other existing sports and I'm ok with it. Dropping any sport to bring it in...nope

I should add you will not get my support for this and I know several big donors that would pull money before any goes towards figure skating....I mean hockey

NDSU doesn't need NDSU hockey.

mgbison wants NDSU hockey.

Let's not confuse the two...


On a sidenote - if NDSU ever did hockey, I would hope they would not play in an off campus facility like the SCheels arena, that would be just stupid.

A. NDSU HAS a Hockey team (it's a club team and will never go beyond that).
2. Trolling is something you do when you want to catch fishes, of course some people actually fish for suckers.
III. There are lots of people out there interested in the hockies, you can find them on Gopherhole or the HYB.

These are my thoughts as well. Until a wealthy donor steps up to fund it will never happen. I'd imagine NDSU would take football FBS before hockey ever happens.

Although I don't understand people's hatred for hockey and calling this thread the worst ever. I happen to like hockey and so do many others. Some people here hate UND so much that they basically hate hockey. Lame in my book. But I like the idea of FBS even more.

Although I got a huge laugh out of runtheoptions post...

For me at least I don't hate hockey, I just don't care about it----I don't hate UN_ either. They annoy and irritate me and I have a deep dislike for them mainly due to their extreme arrogance. This extends well beyond the sports field and comes from having dealt with them in a number of situations for over 28 years.

And also if I recall correctly the decision gene Taylor and chapman thought over was hockey or division one

hockey is lame on TV but live it really has a good feel to it. Its a good non stop pace. Just my opinion

Love hockey and would love to see NDSU get hockey. I also think it can be done without hurting the other programs. While playing hockey on campus would be optimal, its not like Scheels arena would totally suck, heck BBall is playing 2 seasons down there and people get by.
