2017 Pre-Season Rankings
I thought this would be good discussion. Stats came out with their pre-season 2017 title favorites.
http://www.fcs.football/cfb/story.as...02553175498204
In my opinion, I would say it would look something like his:
1. NDSU
2. JMU
3. SDSU
4. EWU
5. SHSU
6. Richmond
7. UND
8. Villanova
Sleeper Team: Illinois St (returns a ton)

Re: 2017 Pre-Season Rankings
While I think NDSU is again going to be the team to beat, I fully expect JMU to be #1 in any preseason poll.
-
Re: 2017 Pre-Season Rankings
Why would anyone but JMU be #1, they are the champs till someone knocks them off.

Well that Championship team is no more. So technically they are already knocked off and the evaluation is just about what teams will take the field next fall. Right?

I agree with tjbison...especially since they are not decimated by graduation.

It surely would make the voting easier for guys who have neither the time nor the inclination to perform full due diligence. They did lose Abdullah though. Do you think they have another weapon like that in the arsenal?

I disagree with this thinking. It's a new season.

Yeah, they got an FBS transfer... "two-time Georgia Tech leading rusher Marcus Marshall"...

What about suspensions? :)

They return a good core as of now, so I don't see why they wouldn't be

You gotta be kidding with that team at 7. They are vastly over rated. They will lose to Eastern Washington, Montana, Utah, and I would bet USD.

Well, we will just have to try to show you next season. JM will start out on top. Montana and 2 SD's beat NDSU in the last 2 years, so it'll be interesting.

As did 4 additional teams since 2011.
What's more.......only 83 wins in the past 6 seasons.........I'm not sure how much longer I'll tolerate this kind of mediocrity.
-
Re: 2017 Pre-Season Rankings
JMU should be #1
New coach going on year 2.... 1 more year to learn the system... JMU will be even better next year even though they are losing a bunch of players

lulz at your post over at siouxsuckhawks:

Bizon are slipping, their talent pool is diminishing. Montana, James Madison, and the 2 SD's beat them in the last 2 seasons. Hope we beat them soon!
Maybe try not to choke in the first round next year.

So why is the "leading running back" from Georgia Tech transferring to a FCS program? Does he have suspension problems?

Re: 2017 Pre-Season Rankings
I'm fine with reasoning behind NDSU #1 or 2. JMU loses some ballers but return plenty and clearly have a top notch coaching staff. They will reload and be championship caliber by playoffs again. NDSU was/is better than either of the other semi finalists not named JMU and return a bunch and could (actually should) well be the best team in FCS to start off the year. If you are ranking according to which is the best team at that time, NDSU should be #1. They would beat a JMU team breaking in many new players if they were to play week 1. I also have a feeling UNI steps back out of mediocrity with their young defense matured some. Ill St. will pick up where they left off before the playoffs and will be a top 10 team. The Jacks offense will be really tough to stop and it's scary to think Christion was an underclassmen last year. I will miss having an FBS game in 2017 but FCS is going to have a bunch of really good football teams. I think EW takes a small step back (they still have a stud QB and always reload so I'm sure new WR put up more ridiculous numbers). I still have a hard time figuring YSU for some reason but they have good coaches and I wouldn't be surprised if they improve again next year.

His dad Warren Marshall was the all time rushing leader at JMU (Graduated in 1986).

I Know a poster, a Darrel gentleman from UND, but you and I both know that's not me. They'll realize someday, in the mean time: There'll be some tough teams this fall. Could be some good competition for the top 8 seeds. Just hope James Madison doesn't improve.

Once again Fawkers fans wanting everyone else to drop to their level instead of expecting their team to rise to the occasion.

Absolutely expecting our team to rise to the occasion. We're improving. NDSU quit improving. James Madison might still be improving.

Time will tell, once the F'n Hawks play a more demanding schedule in the Big Fluffy.
-
Re: 2017 Pre-Season Rankings
Gotta have JMU at #1. They return alot and the were the best last year. Then I'd go with us, SDSU, EWU and probably Richmond rounding out the top 5.
