Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
Not Bad insurance for Trey Lance. Would be a capable QB.
I was never excited for Jaren Lewis..
I just think with Wentz & Stick we should have bigger QB Recruits or Stars...

Makes it important to get a qb next year

Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
Can still sign a QB in February.
Like the move though, bring in competition for Lance and Hotchkiss. Plus he has college experience.

Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
He needs to be here for spring ball. Otherwise he wont have enough time to learn the offensive

I think it is safe to say that he will be here, he has more than enough time to do what he needs to do in order to transfer for the next semester.

Jaren is higher ranked than either Trey or Holden-

Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
I really like Lance but the added benefit to him is that he is fast and agile. He can do more than just be a QB if needed.
Sitting isn't necessarily a bad thing also. Worked out well with Wentz.

Entz said he'll be here Jan. 5.

Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
Was he recruited by NDSU in high school? Just wondering if the coaches had a prior relationship with him like King Frazier when he transferred.

Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
Mess, Roehl, and Hedberg all follow Zeb on twitter. What chaos.

He couldn't beat out a freshman at Iowa State and left in the middle of the season after getting benched. Would he be better than the QB room? Or do we think our coaching is superior and we can turn him around? His stats are okay for last year. He could probably manage games okay.

I'd still expect Trey Lance to be the starting QB for the Bison at Target Field next August but I think Noland can provide value as a backup as well. You'd think he's done transferring since after next year he'll only have 1 year of eligibility left (and I certainly wouldn't expect him to transfer before the end of the 2019 season). That gives the coaches this January recruiting cycle and next year's entire recruiting cycle to find depth behind Lance if Hotchkiss and Sanders say sayonara.

Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
Not a fan of Transfer QBs. All around our leagues programs started bringing in Transfer QBs, Redbirds, UNI, JMU ...never worked. Only USD got lucky.
-
Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
He doesn’t have to be Carson Wentz. Just add some more depth to the position. Plus, being there will help add competition. All positives. Basically filling the roster spot Van Develde (sp?) had. Still will get another QB in February, I would think.

Roberson got them to the title game. His run almost won the game also.

Tre Roberson at Illinois St didn't work out???
How about Ryan Boyle at Indiana St?
-
Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
I guess this goes better here...... I don't get to excited about transfers till they prove it here. I say it about other teams and I will not put on Green/gold glasses just because it is a transfer to us. I will get excited when he proves it here as he has already quite on one team and I have seen more transfers not work out than work out it seems.

Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
Or, crazy idea, we trust the coaches to bring in student athletes that fit the program and know what's best for the team?
If Hedberg didn't like this guy, he wouldn't be here.

Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
Interesting signing. Be curious to see which QB's stick around.
-
Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
Noland has already visited campus according the Entz. Apparently this signing has been in the works all along. They obviously knew Lewis was not committed.

Is this saying that the staff is not confident in either Hotchkiss or Sanders? I had higher hopes for both of them vs Trey Lance. I dislike the QB run game because it could easily put an end to your season. Not every kid is as durable as Easton. It would suck if they transfer.

I think it says more to we take a QB every year, and this was our way to fill that need. Add competition to the QB room. Would of we liked to land Lewis and develop him? Absolutely, but now were adding an experienced player that will compete with Lance, Hotchkiss, and Sanders.

This is actually a pretty good way to give some space at QB. You're not going to get a superstar QB with a potential 4 year starter in front of him.

. Good point. Klieman preached of development school! Red Flag! Looks like there not that high on current crop!

Not necessarily....they could be just adding depth and competition to the QB room. I imagine there's a bit of a hole there since Henry Van Dellen left the team....wouldn't he be about the same class as Nolan? By class I mean elgibility wise...
-
Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
We have been (knock on wood) incredibly lucky with Stick and injuries. Reminder, Brock went down multiple times his freshman year. We need depth and I am sure this is what this is all about.

. Good chance the current kids transfer out. They were told they would learn from a Stick and then go out and get a D1 transfer

I tend to agree on the QB run game. It can be devastatingly effective like we saw Friday night but you look at how it kind of hamstrung our offense when we were reluctant to run Stick the last couple years. I was hoping Hotchkiss would be given a good chance to play some because he appeared to have decent arm talent but maybe the mental side has been tougher to pick up for both he and Sanders. Wouldn't be shocked if one of those guys doesn't transfer or move to a new position.
-
Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
How many FCS schools have two 3 star QB's? Trey and Zeb. Hotchkiss was a boderline 3 star too. Only Sanders was unrated.
-
Re: 2019 Commit: Zeb Noland (QB transfer from Iowa St)
During Entz's introduction presser he mentioned utilizing the passing game "more efficiently". More of a "pro style" QB in Noland...perhaps they want a guy in here who can spin it.

Are we going to a more WCO from the power-spread that we have going on? We have seriously toned down the WCO Brock throws. 22 personal and wheel routes, and spread looks mixed in.
