Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
Another year, another semi final. Nobody thought we would make it this far, can’t win 3 straight road games, dynasty is over. Ok, lets use all of that! Time to send them home unhappy in Big Sky country!! Win and its back to our home away from home to avenge our title game loss vs the bunnies. Lets Go Bison!!
Bison: 38
Teddy Bears: 31

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
36-33 Bison. Crosa wins the game in the 4th quarter.

Good luck, and no serious injuries to both teams!!
May the winner of this one go on to finish the thing in Frisco in very convincing fashion.

It should be a good game. I'll be stuck at a wedding. But checking the score throughout

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
I called a blowout last week and was right. Calling a slightly lower one this week.
38-17 Bison back to Frisco
-
Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
If we tackle and maybe spy their QB to stop the run, we win by 2 scores. Offense needs to start fast and avoid turnovers.
Cam and Cole are going to be sharp.
The whole team plays like enraged, rabid honey badgers after Larsen announces Timothy Brewster as the new HC during the coin toss.
Bison 34, Griz 24.
-
Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
I survived another week. Can’t kill a legend.
Bison 27
Montafornia 21
Oh and name Roehl HC already.
-
Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
Picked Montana earlier in the week but I've come around. The Bison defense misses some tackles, Cam misses some throws, but the playoff Bison find a way in another playoff classic in the state of Montana eeking out a 3 point win. In the postgame locker room Entz/Larsen give the game ball to the next head football coach Tyler Roehl and the locker room erupts.
Then they proceed into the 3 week winter camp where anyone and everyone outside the team's inner circle tells them how badly they're going to get slaughtered in Frisco.
-
Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
Blitz the crap out of their QB. Our defense does not do well with passive assignment football, making tackles in open field. We’ve had much more success with “pin your ears back and go get the ball carrier” style play. Let’s get after it and meet at the QB.
When Cam is “on” there’s not a better QB in FCS. Our offense is hitting on all cylinders. With Roehl up for the HC job, he can’t afford to call plays with his butt-puckered, so I expect him to call a good game.
Kind of a lame statement with a built-in excuse but oh well: we’re definitely the better team, I think the one thing that could hold us up is if the HC change stuff became a distraction for the players and coaches this week.

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
Key to the game is getting their QB on the ground. When we get there, we have to get home. Can't let him extend plays.
-
Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
Looks like the line has moved almost 2 points for the Griz. Bison win 21-20. I have no idea how this squad is here, but they are.

Bison Game Day flag is up along Highway 10 between Lake Park and Hawley. Here's to a great day.

That's you?!? I love it! I'll honk three times as I drive by today. Red Ford, Kentucky plates. GO BISON!

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
I hate to even predict a score given how good and bad both teams have looked during the season, but I think the Bison can do it 28-17.

Those are my thoughts as well!

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
Almost 1/3 mile less elevation than Bozeman and not even 1/2 mile higher than Fargo. Ball should flight a little more predictably for Cam. No rain in the forecast and winds are calm. Passing game should be good to go. I like the boys in green in this one. On a mission to right a wrong.

I had shifted to Griz -2 or -2.5 for most of yesterday. This morning it's back to Griz -1 at most places it appears.

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
It will be a tough environment, but I think it simply comes down to which team will be better for longer in the game. Limit their big plays, we will get big plays too. Bergen gets one big return but we slow him down after that. I loved the fire we saw from the defense last week. Weather should be good for the passing game. Bison are just clicking on all cylinders.

That's interesting. I didn't realize there was that much difference in elevation between Missoula and Bozeman. Do QBs feel like it impacts it that much?
I don't recall it impacting the passing game when we played at Wyoming back in the day, but I did see our defense sucking wind late in the game.

I likely won't hear the honk. We have a long driveway. Feel free to honk, though! Horns up!

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
I wonder if NDSU brought the younger kickoff guy? Would be good to kick it deep or through the endzone but I'm not sure if we have a guy that can do that.

The air is thinner at higher elevation and so there is less drag on the ball from friction and the ball will sail more.
If you want to bulk up your long drive ego go play some golf in Breckenridge, CO at 9,600 feet.
Edit: and in an interesting sort of paradox there is also less "lift" and so it is harder to get an aircraft airborne at altitude.
Edit 2: I'm not a physicist so this is all speculative but I don't think a thrown football will have as much increased relative carry as a flighted golfball at different altitudes. This is because the thrown football is spinning axially while the golf ball is spinning backwards. So for the golfball the air is traveling relatively faster over the top of the ball than the bottom, thereby generation some lift due to the lower pressure on top. The pressures are the same on the top and bottom of a thrown football. That all sounds right in my head anyway...

I am so sick of spherical earth propaganda.

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
Their QB will not be able to pick us apart so keep him in the pocket and have a spy which could also keep a LB near scrimmage for run plays as well.
I’ve been saying it all week, early consistent pressure will get to this guy. He will throw multiple balls up for grabs.
Bergen will most likely get at least one good return, maybe even for a TD but as we saw last week they needed 2 special teams touchdowns to end the game in a tie.
I like the Bison in this one. Close game, maybe even trailing at half but a “comfortable” win in the end.
Bison by 10.

Which brings up the Coriolis Effect and I'm sure mtoutfitter could offer a primer on this one.
I don't think the elevation necessarily impacts this effect in any way. I say this because you can see its effects rampant in any football game played anywhere. Basically it is detected when a QB throws the ball to where a receiver USED to be rather than where they are.
Edit: OTOH, when you are higher then you are moving farther during rotation and so intuitively the effect should be increased. But, not a physicist. I have no clue.

Re: GDT: NDSU vs Montana (Semifinals)
Two keys to the game for the Bison is pass rush and tackling. Rattle their QB early, tackle him when you get to him and you will force him into bad throws which hopefully leads to an INT. Hope we have a good tackling week like we did last week. I think this offense will be hot today playing the game for Roehl to be the next HC!
