I've probably missed it but when does spring ball begin and end?
I thought I heard Coach Klieman say that 25 guys were injured and needed off-season surgery (btw, holy carp!) Kind of makes a spring game unlikely.

25 needing surgery seems like a lot but I'm pretty sure in the past it hasn't been a stretch to say they've held 25 or more guys out of spring ball (especially the spring game) due to injuries, normal wear-and-tear of 15 games every year, or just because some of the older guys have seen so many reps already there wasn't much for them to gain in the spring. I'm sure they'll do the offense vs defense thing again so they really only need around 25-30 guys on each side of the ball to have a 1s and 2s for each plus some special teams.
It actually works out well for ndsu. A lot of these guys have played so many games they don't need to play in the spring game. They had a long season so they don't need the extra wear and tear. It also gives the young guys some much needed reps to show what they can do. I think it is a win win situation to improve the depth while not risking injuries to our guys who have played so many games already.
Since the 2010 season, the Bison have played 106 football games; more than any other college team in America....... go ahead ....... google it. If they don't schedule a spring game...... really!!! Will it matter ? Meh.....
Summer strength and conditions is more important for Bison football for all players IMO. We have lost out majorly on winter workouts the last many years and it has showed with NDSU not dominating the 4th qtr over the last several year imo.

Is it that winter workouts are affected or the fact that other teams are catching up? I guess I don't know the answer. But I do agree we don't have that 4th quarter edge that we use to have.
Maybe it's more perception than actual reality since all things aren't equal. For example, in 13' it seemed like we'd crush teams in the 4th but that team was so good.
I think it has to do with all our injuries last year. Hard to crush some teams when your 2's and 3's are starting. I'm proud of them as they grew up and did a damn good job to get us another NC.
Despite the injuries last year's team stacked up very well by the numbers with 2013.
Category 2013 2017 Average points 38.7 38.7 Average points allowed 11.3 11.6 Total yards per game 457.7 450.3 Total yards allowed per game 262.6 237.4 Yards per pass 8.3 9.0 Yards per pass allowed 5.6 5.4 Pass efficiency 165.2 163.2 Defensive pass efficiency 97.6 91.7 Rush yards per game 257.7 273.7 Rush yards allowed per game 91.3 89.5 Yards per carry 5.96 5.96 Opponents yards per carry 2.91 2.88 Average TOP 33:53 33:43 3rd down conversions 55.7% 48.7% 3rd down conversion defense 26.3% 26.7% Turnover margin +5 +19
The 2013 team, to my recollection, only had one significant injury and that was Grant Olson's ACL (which didn't happen until game 9). Imagine what last year's team could've done if you could've put back in all but 1 of these guys for the whole year: Greg Menard, Dillon Radunz, Dan Marlette, Lance Dunn, Ty Brooks
Of course 2013 will always have the edge when comparing these two teams due to the goose egg in the "L" column and the FBS win but the 2017 team was one of the best Bison teams of all time by any measure.
I'm not sure what you guys are seeing when you look at those stats. How do you come up with our boys not being a very dominant team? Everyone covets the 2013 team, as do I, but 2017 was right there with them with an absolute ton of injuries to make up for.
For whatever it is worth, I think this 2018 team will be the best when we look back on it. At least it has the makings.
I think people are forgetting how many close games the Bison have won over the years. It's not like every year before this year they blew out every opponent. 2017 there was 2 games before the NC. TWO where it was tough going. 2013 was a perfect storm with all returning starters and a down MVFC
NDSU just finished arguably their most dominant season in the last 10+ years and they still aren't beating people by enough?
Which game was it where they weren't dominate enough in the 4th? Ill give you the SDSU game. I am calling bs on any other game
I agree but I'm not necessarily sold on the premise we haven't been dominating in the 4th quarter recently. I think wearing teams down comes from running the football early in the game as sustaining drives which we did quite well this year. If anything, we scored too fast this year.
We sure looked good in the 4th quarter vs Iowa when we needed to dominate
Time for some football. Basketball sucks!
I think it starts the week of March 19th since winter workouts end this week and next week is Spring break. Spring game should be April 21st but I've been hearing a rumor they may have it on Friday instead of Saturday. And yes a ton of guys have had surgery this off season.

Spring game April 20
Another backward step by NDSU, Dome whoever. So I guess they want to minimize who can attend. So is the dinner, silent auction, on Thur night? That will help prevent people from out of town attending. And I guess those in power want to limit tailgating before the game. Just add this to all the other limits placed on football related stuff. No bigger venue, no expanded tailgating, no FBS, and now downplay spring game.
School wins six of the last seven DI National Championships and you're still (if not, more):

You only speak from your own perspective. Fans will still attend based on the other NDSU sports aren’t limited to Weekends only. Maybe you should take the day off if being there is that important to you.
If you don’t think NDSU isn’t growing, then you’re not paying attention.

I guess since I live out of the F/M/WF metro and the spring game is on a Friday. I will not be in attendance this year. Saturday is more than fine for me. I could have even went golfing last year and instead I went to the spring game. Maybe just me but a Friday spring game is not wise. PS I have mens bb tickets and I come down on weeknights for games. Those are games that matter.
