Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
Well, the yearly tradition continues with another Bison Nation pilgrimage to Fargo South aka Frisco, TX. Always love hearing about stories from the road, airport, or however fans are getting their butts down there. Share your pics of flags at the Texas border, road conditions, shots on the bus, or 6 am bloodys at the airport! Might be crazy this year for those driving sharing hundreds of miles of interstate with Bunny fans. Safe travels to all for the best reunion of the year! The march is on!!

You forgot the good natured ribbing of bunnies on the way down....

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
Was/am planning on leaving today after work, but that isn't looking real great for driving down I-29. Currently seeing it as closed from Brookings to Sioux Falls and no travel advised over the entire southeast corner of the state.

Their one snowplow can work only so fast.
Leaving tomorrow afternoon and hoping it's cleared a path by then.
Apparently Sioux Falls airport is shut down today as well.

At least all of the construction on I-29 near Omaha is finished according to google maps. We're heading down from Fargo on Thursday.

Drove south through Omaha/Council Bluffs on Sunday. You still need to leave I-29 and drive through residential Council Bluffs in order to get back I-29 south (which is what google maps recommended to us)
I don't follow the official detour signs anymore in Omaha/Council Bluffs, because in the past they had you take a major detour on I-80 that added a lot of time and miles to the trip (not sure if they are still doing that).

Looks like Google sends you on 480 over to US75 (freeway at that point through Omaha). Showing a closed symbol just south of I-480 intersection.
Are they still working on the I-29-I-80 intersection or is it the I-480 intersection? Cripes they were working on I-80 one when we went down there in 2014! Whoever decided shifting I-29 to the west to go around council bluffs made a huge error there, would seem to make more sense to keep it east. Could have avoided the 2 mile long intersection of interstates there. Still could have had a leg off I-29 to where I-480 is now.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
Decided to stick around Fargo until tomorrow. I see I-29 is opened now between Brookings and Sioux Falls, but no travel advisory remains in effect. Thinking we’ll be up by 5 or 6am and see what things are looking like south of us. Would much rather drive through that stuff during daylight anyway. Adjusting itinerary on the fly is all a part of winter travel.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
We'll hit the road after work tomorrow. Let the fun begin.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
I 25 from Buffalo Wy to Wheatland Wy was brutal! Both lanes snow and ice covered, fog, drifting snow. Could only go 30 to 45...really sucked! Hopefully better today.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
Through SD and things improve tremendously after the SD border. Probably averaged about 60-70mph so take your time and you should be good to go. Wasn’t snowing either so that was a plus!!! Wichita tonight, San Antonio tomorrow.
Go Bison!

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:

I think your google maps overshot your destination by a little bit.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
SD staring at Brookings is icy roads with cars all over in the ditch because SD refuses to salt their roads. Nice stretch through Sioux Falls with salted roads. Then as soon as you get out of town, back to glare ice and no salt.

There will be enough salt for both Dakotas after they lose in Frisco and cry incessantly about the refs or whatever excuse they dig up.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
Sioux City and the bunny is gone. RIP somewhere between Fargo and here.

Ha, true! But don’t worry, you know where you can find me on Sunday ;)
Just got into our hotel in Wichita. Get through South Dakota and I’m telling you it starts to feel like every other trip to Frisco!!

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
I had to drive to Fargo from Sioux Falls this morning (Wednesday) at 9:30 AM and it took roughly 5 1/2 hours, usually about a 3 hour trip. The roads were very snow packed and icy all the way to SD/ND border. Just made the trip back from Fargo to Sioux Falls at 3:15 PM and the roads were much better, it took me 4 hours, so still more than my normal 3 hour trip at 85 mph. I experienced bad ice right by Brookings for about 15 miles and as we got back to Sioux Falls. Safe travels everyone! I agree with other posts that south of Sioux Falls it should be clear.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
So basically, South Dakota sucks and life in general gets instantly better the second you leave it? Sounds about right.
-
Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
Weren’t able to give our usual obligatory wave/one finger salute/“if you need me for anything I’ll be in Frisco watching the Bison play”etc. on our way by the city of Brookings. This one has a different vibe for sure and I’m going to love it. Should be a great trip and looking forward to running into Bunny fans along the way and in Texas.

Pretty much, yeah. Topeka for the night.

Anyone have a guess on what the split will be between Bison/Bunny fans?
50/50? 60/40?

I'm thinking this is what it'll be. I don't think that many bunny fans bought in the presale. Hell they have more tickets in their allotment for sale on AXS than our allotment. There's a lot that wanted to go but got put off by high third party ticket prices. From multiple sources, ticket sales have been soft this year. Usually that is the other team playing catchup because NDSU fans bought out the presale.
They had approx. 6k for all three home playoff games. I doubt they're bringing more than that to Frisco. A good chunk have already been and got to experience the spring "championship". I'm sure that experience wasn't enough to bring everyone back.

Anecdotal for sure but my wife is from SD and has a ton of family that are SDSU fans... they were at a fever pitch about tickets the first few days after the semifinal asking us if we knew of any or what advice we had for finding some - it died down after that and now I'm not sure if any of them who were interested are actually going. To be fair the NDSU peeps on her side also initially showed some interest as well since it was NDSU/SDSU but they ended up not going either.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
question on axs. I transferred tickets and the seats, row, section don't show up on the app. But the qr is there. When you get scanned to they print off a ticket for you or a receipt with the seat info on it? Or is my contact missing something on the ap?
Thanks

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
This will be the first time going to the championship where I don't know anyone tailgating. Usually drive and meet friends but no one is making the trek this year. I'm bringing a coworker for his second time, Cornhusker alum that had a blast at the 2019 championship. We're flying because it was too cheap to pass up. If anyone wants to share some tailgate food let me know!

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
55/45 is my uneducated guess

The tickets that were transferred to me via AXS show the section, row and seat number along with a QR code

Last year was nowhere near 75/25 in either direction. It was pretty close to 50/50 I'd say maybe 55/45 NDSU. SDSU won't travel as well as Montana St did. I'd also expect to see more open seats than we've seen since the 2018 natty vs EWU.

Re: Official Roadtrip to the Championship Thread:
Some slick spots near Aberdeen and from Brooking to Sioux Falls. Perkins said they are closed due to weather so we are at IHOP.

That's what I was thinking to. Funny how Chapo just makes up percentages...and doesn't even try to make them realistic. Surprised he didn't say 90/10. SDSU might not travel like Montana St...but I just don't think NDSU is traveling the same either this year. My guess is 60/40 at absolute best.

With Chapo math, I'm surprised he didn't claim it was a 75/45 split.
