Delaware - Sept 22 2018
Spring practices getting underway in the CAA:
http://www.fcs.football/cfb/story.as...05530316886504
Quote:
DELAWARE
HEAD COACH: Danny Rocco (7-4, one season; 97-46 overall)
2017 RECORDS: 7-4, 5-3 CAA (Tie/4th)
SPRING PRACTICES: March 13-April 21
WHAT TO KNOW: While the Blue Hens improved by three wins in Rocco's first season, they remain desperate to end a playoff drought that stretches to the 2010 FCS championship game. Quarterback has been a problem in recent years, but J.P. Caruso seemed to solidify himself in the second half of last season. The defense will still lead the way with the likes of linebackers Troy Reeder and Charles Bell and safety Nasir Adderly. Unlike many years, the Blue Hens are working toward a CAA game (Rhode Island) as their season opener.
The thumbnail sketch for James Madison:
Quote:
JAMES MADISON
HEAD COACH: Mike Houston (28-2, two seasons; 71-21 overall)
2017 RECORDS: 14-1, 8-0 CAA (1st)
SPRING PRACTICES: March 13-April 14
WHAT TO KNOW: The three-time defending CAA champ returns 10 starters (six on offense and four on defense) from a team whose bid to win back-to-back national titles fell short to North Dakota State in the championship game. The lineup is strengthened by the return of key players from injuries, including running back Cardon Johnson, offensive tackle Tyree Chavious and cornerback Charles Tutt. But the big storyline is the quarterback competition, where Cole Johnson, Gage Maloney or Pittsburgh transfer Ben DiNucci will be asked to replace standout Bryan Schor.
Only 10 starters back for JMU, but will get back some injured players as well as at least 1 transfer -
More on QB transfer Ben DiNucci:
http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/P...s/201802130008
Quote:
The Dukes are in need of a new starting quarterback as Bryan Schor, the one who led them to those thrilling heights the past two years, has graduated — but they weren’t in need of another candidate. They have a couple of returning scholarship passers on the roster, but DiNucci sought out James Madison upon deciding to leave Pitt in December
DiNucci did start some games for Pitt at QB, but it may not have been a consistent situation between he and the coaching staff.

Quote:
Overall, he completed 88 of 158 passes for 1,091 yards with five touchdowns to five interceptions this past season, his first extensive action other than the Pinstripe Bowl a year ago when he came on in relief of Nathan Peterman.

Re: Delaware - Sept 22 2018
That Delaware LB, Charles Bell, broke his back in the fourth game last year (which happened to be against JMU) and was granted a medical hardship to play this year since he played as a true freshmen. I'll have to find that JMU v Delaware game on youtube because Delaware was really stuffing JMU from what I saw.
JMU will be tough... they are very happy about getting one of their RBs back for a sixth year - Cardon Johnson.

I watched it a few months ago. From what I remembered, the games a bit sloppy, but solid play from both defenses. Offensively, Delaware didn't have much to offer.

13. Delaware
(7-4, 5-3 CAA)
Mired in a playoff drought since 2010, the Blue Hens' tradition-rich program is anxious for a return following its three-game improvement in head coach Danny Rocco's first season. The defense can get it done as it features linebackers Troy Reeder and Charles Bell and safety Nasir Adderley. But the offense remains under the microscope, although returning quarterback J.P. Caruso was 4-2 as a starter.
Both Reeder and Adderley were 2nd Team picks on Hero Sports Pre-Season FCS All-American Team.
Troy Reeder is a SR LB, 6’ 2” 245
Nasir Adderley is a SR DB, 6’ 0” 190

This game should be a good test for us. Delaware is a solid FCS team.

So we be at CHUBS PUB at end of 3rd quarter instead of the usual halftime departure at a NDSU football game.

"Led by what could be the best linebacker corp in the FCS" Sure hope Dan comes back 100% as he showed some signs last season of being a dominant middle linebacker. Sounds like Jordheim hits like a mack truck. And we know what we have in Jabril....but he's only going to get better as he learns this defense more. Is it football season yet?!!

I believe he's saying that Delaware could have the best linebacker corps in the nation...
" Led by what could the best linebacker corps in FCS, Delaware should have a staunch defense after finishing 10th nationally in scoring defense (16.8 ppg) last year. Let’s see it silence the Bison and turn this much-anticipated visit into the trip of a lifetime."

Yep, you're right. Still excited for our trio though, and the entire D as a whole.

Apparently playing the Bison is to many teams their Superbowl.

Re: Delaware - Sept 22 2018
Delaware should be a formidable opponent. Bring back a lot and should be a playoff team this season. May compete for a seed.

Going to be a defensive battle early. I think we wear them down and pull away late for a couple score victory, unless they have some early turnovers, then we cruise. They are going to struggle to move the ball at all.

Not so sure. Teams that play the Bison tend to be beaten up after the game and it affects their remaining season.
(This usually results in fans of other schools noting that we played them during "an off year".)

Re: Delaware - Sept 22 2018
I just don’t see a close game here, fellas. I doubt they find the endzone twice, and might move the ball a bit as the defense still works to mesh. But the O will control the clock, and ram the ball down their throats. 35-13 after the third, and Kleiman graciously puts in the backups.

Re: Delaware - Sept 22 2018
If UD is rebuilding their D-line, then this is going to be a blowout.
-
Re: Delaware - Sept 22 2018
This one just might be tougher than some folks think. Last year their defense was #15 in total defense and #10 in scoring defense at 16.8 points per game. Everything that I have read says their defense is supposed to be improved this year. I do find it interesting that they are getting several FBS transfers.
-
Re: Delaware - Sept 22 2018
I don't think they throw the ball well enough to keep us honest. Last year as a team they threw for 1,369 yards 12 TDs and 9 interceptions. Both guys return in JP Caruso and Joe Walker. They also have added Darius Wade from Boston College as a transfer. I just think it's going to take a more than their average of 124 passing yards a game to beat us.

They did lose their anchor of a nose tackle (who is currently in an NFL camp). From what I understand he was one of those guys who just swallowed up blockers allowing their LBs to run and make plays.

I'm done playing the prediction game with some of these out of conference opponents. I thought we would walk all over Chuck South a couple of years ago and those guys surprised the heck out of me...took the Bison to OT, yikes. I mean, obviously I like our chances against anyone especially at home, but with us being the Super Bowl game of everyone the Bison play we know we'll get their best shot.

Delaware will be the best defensive team we play at home this year. Offense, not so much. They lost to JMU last year in a tough game 20-10 and JMU had a fumble recovery TD. I watched that game and Delaware matched up physically with the Dukes but they had no passing game whatsoever.

Should be a good game -- much better than watching a blowout vs. Piggly Wiggly State.

Bison are going to stack the box and dare Delaware to throw it. It'll be a long day for them I'm afraid.

And with our d-line fully rotating in and out it's going to be a long day of their QB picking himself up off the turf if they do throw.

Hi from the outback of Delaware. Hopefully, we don’t embarrass ourselves and get beat by 60. It’s an off year...we’re small, slow and untalented. Please take it easy on us.
I will be making the trip out and hope to catch up with a kind tailgate that would allow us to join. We will bring whatever is needed.

Welcome. You don't need to bring anything but yourselves and you will be provided with food and drink from just about anyone in the tailgating area. And drop the aw-shucks routine about your team getting beat by 60. Most of us know that you guys have a good defense and you won't be taken lightly. :D

In all honesty, we ought to be tuff defensively. We are working a couple kids at NG but are pretty solid every place else. The four backers are very, very good. Troy Reader (#9) will get a solid shot to play on Sunday’s. The defensive backfield may be as good as the 2010 team...and that’s saying something...we had a couple guys on that team play in the NFL.
The offense is a work in progress...the O-Line ought to be fine, RB probably has the strongest depth on the team, WR should be ok...it comes down to the guy pulling the trigger. As someone on this thread said earlier, I would load the box and make the Hens throw it.
I expect a very physical game. It ought to be fun! When you see two guys in Delaware shirts, invite us in for a hot dog 😁.

Bad ass. You'll have a trip to remember for a lifetime. Every visitor raves about their fargo experience. Kudos to you two for making the trip, you'll have more fun here than at any p5 school. I'll keep in touch to make sure you make it on our bus for multiple shots
You won't even need to bother bringing your own beer
