Google "North Dakota State FBS." The first result (from*Bison Report): "The Question That Never Goes Away." The second result (from*Saturday Blitz): "Should North Dakota State football start looking at transition to FBS?" The fourth result asks a similar question, as do the sixth, eighth and ninth results.
Musings of a potential North Dakota State FBS jump won't stop until the Bison actually make the jump or stop dominating the FCS. And because their reign atop the FCS world doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon, the musings won't stop anytime soon. Should those musings include the Mountain West?
“We are in a league where to be blunt, I don’t know if it’s the route maybe we should go,” Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun*said*two weeks ago. "…I*just don’t know if it’s really a match. I don’t know if it’s best."
If Air Force bails and the Mountain West wants to remain at 12 members, might they consider North Dakota State?
Absolutely they should

Are you surprised that when you use a search engine to find articles about NDSU going FBS that articles about NDSU going FBS show up?
If I go on Westlaw or LexisNexis and search "dog /s bite" I'll get cases from North Dakota about dog bites.

Most FBS schools are hesitant to go up against NDSU because they know they might lose
https://sportsenthusiasts.net/2021/0...-fbs-argument/
a very in depth article with lot of focus on travel costs mainly.
but overall NDSU should be FBS instead of trophy chasing & Bison fatigue setting in locally

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Salt Lake City’s take on on Mountain West - Utah State situation
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.des...est-conference
The new news part of the article:
Quote:
What does it all mean for the Aggies?
If the MWC does lose teams, geographically speaking the conferences that would make most sense to look at for new members would be Conference USA (the conference has four schools in Texas, including UTSA, UTEP, Rice and North Texas) or the Big Sky at the FCS level, with independent New Mexico State another option.
Still no mention of NDSU, but hey, at least the Deseret thought of the Big Sky Conference - geographically speaking - but thought of 4 Texas schools 1st.
Makes me with wonder if Idaho would like another bite of that FBS Apple?
With Boise State hoping to leave for the Big 12, there isn’t anyone to veto Idaho.

LOLOL That article actually ends with this statement:
Quote:
North Dakota State is far better off maintaining the status quo and remaining in the MVFC. For the Bison, being a shark amongst minnows is a far better option than attempting to become a minnow with the faint hopes of one day becoming a shark.

Links???
Can you show us where this opportunity was from 2013 on?
Can you show us where any FBS conference, especially the Mountain West, had any interest in adding NDSU from 2013 on?
As always, extra extra credit for links including Mountain West Officials,
MW member school AD’s or Presidents or Head Coaches, or at a minimum
MW beat writers……

So, for those somewhat new to Bisonville, I have been asking Chapo for years for anything substantial showing that the Mountain West has any interest in adding NDSU……….crickets……
So all these years he had nothing, just a FBS obsession……
So all these years he has been telling Bisonville the only reason NDSU was not FBS was because it did not promote itself, or it didn’t strike when the iron was hot blahblahblah because, You Know, He had a Source.
So all these years Chapo has been the single biggest source of Bison Fatigue on Bisonville.
My memory, which could be wrong, was that when the Mountain West last expanded - in 2013 - it wanted a team that fit their regional football. With Hawaii as a football only member, adding Utah State got the MW to 12 members. A number they have been very very comfortable with.
Well, now times are changing with conference realignment.
We’ll see what happens to NDSU soon enough, if anything
(2024? 2025?, maybe before). But it’s still a long shot to be FBS.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Meh, I think NDSU could/should have done more in the last 6 years. Facilities are coming a long nicely but as far as overall public statements stating: “hey we are doing some feasibility studies to see if FBS is in our future at all”. I feel they have done more or less nothing. Just kind of a going with the motion and seeing what the P5 is doing I guess. If you don’t agree then tough shit I guess. This is MHO.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
notre dame AD says they arent presenting the 12-team proposal now. Wonder if the UT and OU news has submarineed that proposal in some manner?
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Leave it to the Notre Dame AD to comment on such. They just want to be in the last four so they can get skull drug by 40 by one of the other three teams. Pretty much clock work.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
According to Culhane just now on 1660, Chris Vannini says NDSU is being touted as a viable MWC option by the conference. This would be a first. Anyone have a link to the article?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
OK, hear me out: I'm not a huge MAC fan, but the MWC without Colorado State, Boise State, et al just isn't that exciting.
If the MAC loses some teams, it might be a better fit for NDSU (and SDSU.)
1. Unlike the MWC, it'd help us more than it'd hurt us in our prime recruiting areas.
2. Two times zones v four - we'd never be up at midnight trying to catch the end of a game.
3. NDSU could step in and be successful immediately (NDSU would probably do OK in a gutted MWC too, of course.)
I think Nebraska made themselves a lot less attractive to Texas and Oklahoma recruits when they went from the Big 12 to the Big 10. Maybe NDSU could still snag Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois recruits, but you gotta believe that the MVFC schools would have a good angle with the "play for us and your parents can see every game" angle.

Regarding Tony’s comment, I get your point and I share some of these concerns, but what this tells me is that NDSU FB-only has some traction in the G5, and anything can happen going forward. Bison are in the discussion, and that alone is a huge step
For whatever reason, the MAC is stable, and then there’s the MACtion issue. I think ND as a state identifies more with the cowboy west than the great lakes east, geographical distances be damned, but that’s just an impression. Program itself needs to focus on the MVFC right now tho

Uhhh? Lol. Hes on the committee. Hes one of the few that is qualified to talk about it. And Notre Dame would benefit more than most with an expanded playoff.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Yes that’s my point. It’s the Notre Dame’s AD commenting on it. But also Notre Dame wants to be be one of the only 4 by default. If it were an actual tournament, they would probably loose by only 21 to another team earlier in the playoff. It is of my opinion that they want to be labeled as one of the very best teams in the country when in all reality they are probably fringe top 10.

Lol. Yeah, if we do get invited to the MWC, there will be a lot of gnashing of teeth over there as we are way beneath them in the eyes of many. Until we start kicking their ass and getting consistently ranked. Then they will come around. Look at all the pretentious Boise haters over there who are now worried that Boise could leave.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Fortunately, fan forum posters don’t make meaningful program decisions … But there are more than a few on that board who are pro-NDSU, they’re just not loud about it
I have to say, playing Wyoming on a regular basis would be way cool. Half the conference games would be home, so one way to compensate for travel would be to try to always sched regional non-con.
Many dominoes left to fall tho so best to keep feet firmly planted on ground. Lot’s of work left in the valley too this year and I'm really looking forward to that.
