It is so painfully obvious Cam is our best option right now. Cole does not look comfortable at all throwing the ball. He’s basically a better running version of Quincy Patterson right now.

It’s not painfully obvious to me, but what do I know.

anyways... this is a much different situation. Cam is a good QB, I just think COLE has a ceiling none of us have seen yet and the coaches don't want to unleash him because they dont' want to deal with a QB controversy
NDSU scored six points and averaged 4 yards an attempt against Kansas.

Absolutely going back to 2010 to point out just how long and consistent you have been in your inaccurate analysis of Bison football talent. And Jose Mohler didn't beat Kansas, his play was far from stellar in that game. He did however play well in the playoff game against Montana State when he came in after Brock got dinged. Face it El Chirpo, every time you advocate for a player over the decision by the coaches, you can count on a post about Jose Mohler, and grandmothers of course.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
By the way, I have no idea how good of a quarterback Cole Payton can be. I do think that we have seen the best of Cam Miller and it is not at the level of the previous 4 horsemen: Brock, Carson, Easton, and Trey. With that said, I am encouraged by the the coaching staff giving Cole more opportunities in meaningful minutes to show his stuff. If he is up to the task and can use these opportunities to demonstrate that he's the man, then I think he will get that opportunity. We've seen it in the past: Steve Walker replacing Tony Stauss, Brock Jensen replacing Jose Mohler, and Cam Miller replacing Zeb Noland and Quincy Patterson. The coaching staff has historically made the right decision at the right time to make a QB change, and we have had success in each transition. And not once did the coaching staff listen to El Chirpo or any of us other armchair head coaches.

This is 100% where I am at. I just want Cole to get a full quarter where he has multiple live rep opportunities to pass and run and hand the ball off and maybe even make a read or 2 at the LoS… if we get a 3-4 score lead in the 4th, then the coaches should absolutely do this instead of just run the clock out.

Problem with that is a 3-4 score lead is in direct competition with letting him run the full offense. Everything changes on decision making from the coach when you're up big with 10 min left, as it should. He wouldn't get the same chance on 3rd and 6-7 as he would if it was a close game or NDSU was behind. Run up the middle and if we don't get the first, punt. Which is an OK plan of attack when up big late.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
This week if all goes as planned, Cole will get a lot of playing time in the 2nd half. I would love to see him sling it ao we can see something.

Not to mention with that big of a lead the starters will get pulled so he'd be in there with backups and still not a true measure of his skill.

If he rolls out and throws the ball in the dirt to an open receiver, it ain't because there was a second teamer blocking for him.
