Now, you want to hold the program back even after we rewrite history and Quad.
#buttQuad.
There are 650,000 people in Boise today. Fargo would have to grow 80% just to get to the size Boise was (400,000) when they moved up in 1996. Yes, we used to be ahead of them back in the day but then they experienced three decades of population grown in excess of 30% (one of them 45%) while we went sideways. We're just getting stated on what may prove to be that kind of explosive growth but they didn't move up until maybe halfway through their spurt.

I think there are two types of programs that move up from FCS to FBS.
1. The programs that are actually looking to step up in competition and have done what they could have done in FCS and want to go further. Marshall and Boise State seem to fit in this category. They eventually exceeded their stature in FCS. Marshall has been on the map for years because of great players. Boise State because of great upsets and rankings.
2. Programs who are losing money in FCS and think they can be profitable in FBS. Pretty much everybody else. App State and Georgia Southern are two great examples of this. Completely forget about their storied FCS histories. They didn't move up for better competition. They moved up because they were going broke in FCS. I think in the long run, these programs may never exceed what they did in FCS and I am also a believer that if you were losing money in FCS, you will eventually lose money in FBS. The extra money won't matter. The programs are what they are regardless of level and will always find their way to where they are supposed to be on the economic continuum. I also think if most of these FCS to FBS programs were suddenly thrust back into their old FCS conferences, they might be just as competitive as before but probably not at any higher level.
I am not anti-FBS for NDSU. No where will anyone find anything that says I am completely against ever moving to FBS. I am anti-FBS NOW for NDSU. Back to my take on the shakeups are not over and NDSU not needing to put themselves in a position where they put all their eggs in one basket today to find out the basket had a hole in it tomorrow when whatever conference they join is now disbanded. Sure they might be FBS, but they will be FBS with no FBS history, no FBS leverage, and possibly no resources to withstand that storm.
So back to your question. It is a very sound question and very relevant. Other than Boise State and Marshall, most of the country can't even name two more current FBS programs that used to be FCS. I wish this were because their FBS stature has become so outstanding, the FCS part of their history is a fading memory (which those two programs might have reached because how many remember they were FCS or 1AA at one time?); but more like they probably can't name the schools to begin with. Maybe App State, if you gave them the App part and the State part would they have a brief moment of recollection. Quick, name 3 schools in the Sun Belt without looking them up. It isn't easy. So not only have FCS schools failed to repeat their success at the next level, they primarily reside in conferences which are marginally of the FBS nature by name only. Even Conference USA with a few schools with a long FBS history, most would be hard pressed to name 4 schools in it and probably wouldn't even know that is the conference Marshall is in without being told. Some of these schools went from being the big fish in a little pond to being chum in the ocean. How do you get around that? In NDSU's case, you wait for everything to have some semblance of normalcy after the shakeups and make a move which insures the potential for something bigger then what they have now. Marshall isn't even guaranteed anything bigger than what they had when they were FCS and they might go undefeated with the easiest schedule in football.

You forgot the 50,000 seat outdoor stadium, so it's only 40k short and we still have 5 years to get there.
And with DI fundraising soon in full effect, that's probably good for another 170k to the FM metro. I have the text.

Thank you, I think. I'm not sure if it is a good or a bad thing. It really isn't so much time. My mind works at a 1000 mph and I type like every third word. Sometimes it is coherent.
