Not sure what the length of Walseth contract is. This year roster has 13 players on it. 4- freshman, 6 soph, 2 jr and 1 senior. Not sure if there are plans to red shirt the freshmen or not. 6'4", 6' 3", 6' 2" and 5' 11". Good height coming in.

Maybe the same time NDSU decides to replace their men's coach with someone who can actually make adjustments/run an offensive scheme that works?

My thoughts exactly, always an excuse for the extra scholarships available or why the roster isn't full...it's really getting old. Losing the local kids is disheartening as well, maybe NDSU basketball is taking the Tim Brewster approach to recruiting...

Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Speaking with an incoming freshman parent, although they would like to redshirt the freshman class, they probably won't be able to.
As for Maggie Manson, her dad played men's ball there. But can you blame her for going to the better program?
Kabo's dad attended UND for a year or so, her aunt and Uncle played sports at NDSU. Again, better program can't blame her.
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
I thought the previous posters were complaining that we didn't even try to recruit her.

Incredibly weak pre conference sched. Clearly an attempt to gain a winning record and look good to the AD. Not fooling anyone here. I think what,
3 NAIA teams and D1 teams from timbucktoo. (except co)

"Look good for the AD"? Does the AD help with the schedule ? Probably not fully done by the coach. Someone can correct me on that. But yes the schedule is weak.
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
"Looking good for the AD" is assuming we will actually win those games. :hide:
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Umm, not a total surprise on the schedule to me.
They were, after all, 6-24 last season. Why not set the table to double (or possibly more) the number of victories this season? They also have to make up for IUPUI leaving the conference at the last minute, just like the men's team.
13 players on roster - 10 are freshman and sophomores (4 FR, 6 Soph).
One of the 2 juniors is a new JC transfer, so 1 returning experienced junior, Kennedy Childers, and senior Taylor Thunstedt.
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Ok, but this was to be the weakest pre-conference sched since going D1. Unless Maren is artificially trying to have a nice record going into league, perhaps to save her ass from being fired. I don';t know what this will accomplish.
Mayville *
NJIT
UMASS
Valley City *
Navy
UMBC
Colorado
Milwaukee
Rio Grande Valley
UND
Cal Poly
Dakota State *
When I first saw this, I figured 2 things, one, no one wants to play us, or two, Maren is scheduling this to try to save her job. This is season four with her. smh
When to do the excuses run out? With this schedule we should be something like 9 and 3 going into conference.
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Not sure anyone will disagree with you about the "strength " of the schedule. However give Matt Larsen credit. I think he knows the difference from playing Mayville vs a D1 program.
On the bright side would it not be nice to be 9-3 headed into conference play?
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Let's not forget they had to replace 2 games against IUPUI late as well.
-

Didn't Kvilvang have offers from UND, Arizona State, Boise State, and Minnesota? So that isn't winning an instate battle??

Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
I question is that Reagan will come in and take a roster spot filled by Taylor now. But does that still not leave us with two roster spots open?? Are there anymore recruits coming?

No I'm sure they will leave the roster at 13, you know to save those extra scholarships just in case...

From Coach Walseth’ news conference it did not sound like there would be any more signings this fall. When Dom asked about possible spring signees she said yes, 1 or 2 if the coaches can find the skill sets that would help the team.
Reagan Heun with a shooting skill that would allow for spacing on the floor (with NDSU’s bigs). (Heun listed with 52% 3% for her summer league team)

Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Lauren Ware from Bismarck Century had 22 points 16 rebounds and 8 blocked shots in the opening round of ND Class A state tourney. She is only a sophomore and had a great freshman year as well. NDSU better be on this player.
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
She is wayyyyyy past NDSU, she's not a mid major player. Big12

Does it hurt anything to show interest in her and let her know she is a prime target? The worst that can happen is she says no.

From last year on Ware.

Is she the reason why Iowa St. is at the SHAC this afternoon for the Class A girl's tournament?

The question is she on UCONN's radar yer? She played pretty high level AAU last summer, waiting to hear if she is on one of the national Nike or UA teams this spring/summer.
Sam Haiby from Moorhead went Big 10, while very, very good, 5'10'' guards can play are everywhere (except NDSU).
6' 4" run the court better than most guards, and handle the ball better than most guards, that player is a bit harder to find.
As for better this year? Yep, she doesn't get fouls, not that she got many as a freshman, but body control and being at the right spot on the court, has cut down fouls.

I was massively impressed with her body control last year. Her moves were fluid and for a freshman down right amazing. Got a good head on her shoulders too. Great basketball mind.

Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Wow... resorting to foreign players.... really, how about trying to recruiting players from competitive regions of our country. LA, CHI, TX, and East Coast... There are tons of Mid Major quality players there dying to play D1 basketball who get bypassed by Major conferences... We have such a clueless staff
