Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
This is the second time I've heard that NDSU is recruiting in Michigan - turns out that both times were for the same player.
According to Michigan Preps (a Rivals.com site), Nathaniel "Nate" Williams, a 6'2, 270 lb, DE fom New Haven, Michigan, has been invited to NDSU for a visit. Also according to that site and scout.com, he already has offers from Colorado, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Miami (OH), and Indiana State.
Edit: Found more on scouts and rivals. Saw video of him doing 30 reps of 225. He played MLB as a sophomore (144 tackles and was named the outstanding linebacker at Michigan's camp that summer) and was switched to DE his junior year when he got up to a solid 250. As a senior, he played at 6'2 260 and is pretty fast (4.78 40). According to rivals.com the rap on him is that he is a bit too short and his school is small so his level of competition wasn't that great. They project him as being a DT or OG.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
scouts and height, what a bunch of morons.
Agbetola v. Wheelwright
I'll take spit over height any day.

No he does not have an offer as of yet from the Bison. They are showing some interest, but not ready to offer.

Re: 2008 Recruits
I got to see our recruit, Hakeem Bourne-McFarlane, in person last night at the vikings game. He's a good size kid, and he should make a great addition to our WR crew. He made the Vikings all-minnesota high school team and they were honored at halftime.

I've heard he has good upside to really develop into a nice player at the college level...I hope they offer him soon.

Re: 2008 Recruits
Story on Minot Ryan's Austin Vetter from the Minot Daily News:
http://www.minotdailynews.com/sports...rticleID=17087
“I got letters from Princeton and Harvard,” Vetter said. “I guess I got a call from Princeton, but never really pursued that.
“Over all the other North Dakota schools it was the DI aspect of it. They are on ESPN and they’ve been having so much success. Their goal now is to win a championship, just like any other team. But I feel they have a good chance of winning a championship in the near future. That is what I want to be a part of.”

Dang it! I thought we had Drago's replacement!
Vetter did placed 5th in the 100 meters and 4th in the 200 meters so he has pretty good speed. Also a good BB player.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
According to this article we have offered 3 linemen. I took it to mean offensive lineman. Any idea who they are? The second would be Sauer. I don't know the last one though anybody heard anything about offers.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
Looks like the Bison may have decided to start looking in Iowa as well. Although Chris Tracy (Inwood, IA) verballed to UND, he listed NDSU as a place he was being recruited by. Do you guys know of any others from Iowa you're looking at?

Being recruited can mean alot of things - it doesn't necessarily mean he had a visit or was offered.

The point of the question was whether there was anyone else from Iowa that you guys were looking at, since I didn't think you were doing much recruiting there.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
Does anyone know how many scholarships NDSU will offer this year? I say get a couple of QBs and CBs and then we should be set.

How many did we graduate? I'm thinking we'll have about 12 scholarships.

We only had 11 seniors. 8 starters and 3 reserve/special team. Probably 11 rides to give or close to it but that might also include giving some scholarship to current players.

Does the angry elf always have a disabled reputation? I tried to give him rep points.

can we split those up or can we only give out full rides? for some reason I was thinking that FCS can split scollies but FBS cannot.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
Anyone know if we offered this guy: Chris Tracy from West Lyon High School in Iowa. I see he signed with UND and good for him, I don't really care about that. I always find it interesting when newspapers or web sites say he chose XYZ school over ABC, DEF schools. So was he offered by these other schools or not? It's one thing to say yeah I was recruited by Florida but decided to go to NDSU instead when in fact all the recruiting by Florida was a GA sticking a 41 cent stamp on some vanilla letter they send out to every kid on the block and his grandma. Hell if that's the case, I was recruited by NDSU..............of course stamps were a little less expensive back then.
On a side note, I don't want this to turn into a Bison vs. Sioux pissing match, we've got enough of that going on right now, I'm happy for Mr. Tracy, I hope he goes on and does well up north, just using him as an example.

It could have been a full ride scholorship or a walk on. They could have looked at him once and say, "nah, not very good" or they could have him pegged as the next Kellen Winslow. It doesn't mention NDSU as making an offer so he's probably a good player but not a guy so special we're going to look back and say, son of a! Officially it says UND, Montana, and Ohio. (Ohio who? The MAC school Miami Ohio? Ohio State? Ohio Community College?) They signed him a few days after we got our TE out of Minot Ryan so he was probably the 2nd choice.
ANYHOW... there is a good thread on the Sioux board.
NDSU and UND are recruiting Will Jackson a 6'1" 230lb Linebacker/Running Back who was 2nd Team AP All State.
http://www.district196.org/evhs/athl...spects08.htmHe looks to be good and I hope he chooses us.
Also there is this recruit out of Wisconsin (I COPIED THIS FROM THE SIOUX BOARD) that is getting interest from EVERYBODY including Iowa, who is his #1 choice but they have fallen back. He's already visited UND and will visit NDSU later to compare. I hope we make a good impression.
DL Kyle Cavil (6-4, 240), Sr., Ashwaubenon
Another prospect who has become extremely popular with college recruiters in recent weeks is Ashwaubenon defensive lineman Kyle Cavil.
Edit by Admin, too much copying from wissports.net so if you want the rest of the story follow the linkie from wissports.net: http://www.wissports.net/sports/foot....asp?nid=14623

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
FCS teams can still split scholarships
NDSU graduated 11 but probably has a couple more full rides pulled from defectors

Actually, these are the schools: Tracy, who also rushed for 1,077 yards, chose North Dakota over South Dakota, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Augustana and Northwestern College. I think you are thinking of the kid from Eastview in Apple Valley. All I was stating is who really knows what was offered by who, kids and media sources don't always say the level of interest that was given by the other schools. High school coaches are going to brag their guys up too, makes them look better. So when you read Tracy chose UND over USD, ect, ect, did he really or did the others back off and not offer. Hell, if I was in the process, I'd play a little poker with these schools too, make them think I've got pocket aces.

Looks like they say we offered him. It will be interesting to see where he ends up probably will depend on position he wants to play. Looks to be nice sized.

Yup, LB's are great athletes and usually versatile. If you can throw a few more pounds on them, they can play DE, if they're quick enough they move to SS.
Plus, NDSU usually has three LB's on the field at one time, so you need plenty of depth.

Plus they make great special teams players! Think of a line of LBs blocking in front of Shamen Washington...
