Yep, lots of opportunity to show what he has for passing skills. What a joke the way our coaches evaluate game talent. And Cam gets to start because what? He won a natty where Luepke ran and scored a bunch. And think about it, Cam went 1 for 12 in a D1 football game because he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Yet Cole can come in and run 2 or 3 times a game when everyone knows our brilliant coaches are going to make him run every time and he still gets 7.5 yards per carry! I know Cole can throw better than Cam or Quincy as I watched them practice more than a year ago. Then I doubt Cole knew much of the offense, but he knows it now!
If you want to say "he was 8 of 12 that's awesome" then you need to own throwing a horrible it lNT.
He might be better than Cam. I have no idea. But if you are gonna hype limited stats, then own all of this stats. Dude throws an INT over 8% of the time he puts the ball in the air.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Dont get the anti Cam shit. Kid has made some Great throws. Hes made some Great runs as well. Has he made some mistakes? Sure. I would say from what Ive seen the majority of his issues are OC and oline related.

. What I was saying is those stats really say nothing as so spread out.....even the one interception was a fluke. High expectation for a kid to come in cold and make a throw to make up for Cam's stupid show off crap that got a big penalty.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
So, I made my comment and got ripped for judging a kid on such limited information.
What the fuck are all of you basing your assessments on?!? How are you guys so sure that CP is the answer? I've seen absolutely nothing compelling. What have you seen? That's my question.
If you want to just see something different, then just say THAT. But to make finite statements that Jesus is a left-handed answer to our supposed QB'ing woes...that's just silly.

Nobody has seen anything yet. We can't really judge him off of of his limited play.
Coles play has been during garbage time with backups and the spring game plus 1 bad pass vs SDSU. We can't really judge anything from that. Without question Cole has a stronger arm, is bigger, stronger, faster and has a more dynamic running abilities. What we don't know is how his passing skills have evolved and how he will look next year.
I'll say what I've always said about Cam. He is serviceable but not dynamic. He's not the type of guy who is going to take a team on his back. If that's good enough, we could stick with him and win most games.
There is a reason we don't throw deep much or throw many 20 yard out patterns. He just doesn't have a rocket arm. But he is really good at the short to medium passing game. His running skills surprised me this year. He is solid running in the red zone, and solid when a play breaks down and he takes off. But is he a true running threat when teams prepare for him like that?
At the very least, we have to open up the competition.

I'm not sure I buy the Cole is a better runner than Cam thing.

I'm not anti Cam but 1 of 12 for 5 yards in a semi-final game is not good and it wasn't because of the OC or oline IMO. He was flat out awful in throwing in that game and a couple other games this season weren't pretty either. Cam even admitted he wasn't good and they needed to run him more. I just think they need an open unbiased competition this spring and not just give it to Cam because he's been the starter. Best guy needs to be out there, if that's Cam great, if it's Cole or someone else then they should be the starter.

Cole is a much better runner than Cam is. The guy has averaged 8 ypc running 1 play that everyone knows is coming. At 6-3, 230 its like comparing Gonella to Luepke. Cole is talented enough to be RB1
Cam is good running when a play breaks down or on a QB draw. He's good in the red zone too but Cole can do everything Cam does with his legs and more
But can he pass?

Fair. I'm with you on that.
I'm skeptical about his ability. Great frame and all that. Maybe he is great. Who knows

Let us not forget about how poor our D was, and not sure we were all that great on special teams sans FGs/EPs.
