It might be easier to find a better quality home and home with a Target Field | US Bank | Allianz revenue split, neutral site game. Do it with a large market AAC school so flights would be decent for the away game.
Charlotte, Memphis, Rice, UTSA. It would be a lot easier to get good non conference from the MWC if that wasn’t our best landing spot.

Rice and Charlotte don't excite me much.
If we join MWC, would expect a couple G5 home and home from MAC, UTEP, NMSU, UMass, UConn type schools.
Maybe Army, but they stay pretty booked up.
Try to get a PAC away P5 game, and a home FCS game against Big Sky or MVFC.
That's sort of the normal formula starting out.
With some luck maybe 5-10 years in we could get a 2-1 or 1-1 with a PAC school.
The AAC schools in part get some better draws because a few have 50k stadiums and are in ACC/SEC land.
ECU, Memphis, SMU, Cincinnati, BYU, UCF are already basically like quasi P5

No, what’s depressing has been our non-con for the last 5 years.

I don’t get this sentiment either. For some it seems like they can only perceive the B1G as an improvement and everything else is a lateral move at best. It just seems so irrational and illogical to me.

If we are a consistent top 50ish program with the occasional push for top 25 status there will be renewed excitement around the program.

the GOAL is that G5 CFP spot!!.. that should be NDSUs prime focus!!..
Going 12-0 in Mountain West/CUSA/AAC with 2 Power 5 wins WILL get you into the CFP even if your G5 conference isn't #1

I love this question!
I would go with...
Colorado State, Wyoming, Boise State, Cincinnati, Houston, Southern Methodist, Air Force, Hawaii, New Mexico, App State, Army (if that counts), Navy...I realize that's twelve. Any of those five would be awesome.
I guess as I look at conference standings, I really like the state flagship schools represented in the Mountain West. They have a great niche product. If we could start a "Plains" conference and have the schools from Montana, Idaho, South Dakota and North Dakota we could be an eastern counterpart to that. A decent conference schedule and lots of good options for OOC games.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
When you get to FBS you will get a lot of interesting games over the years. I don't have a top 5 for G5 but are are still a lot of P5 schools I would like to see Nevada play.

How about just get into a conference and stop with the nonsense. The odds of that happening are slim to fucking none. Get in a conference, be happy it took a decade to get your way, go tailgate, and then go back to message board to rip the living shit out of everything.

I believe that because a large chunk of the G5 is no better than the MVFC. I used the term "bad" or "dogshit" football loosely. The MVFC is full of great athletes and football programs. So are the G5 conferences. There is a lot of bad football teams in each as well.
Y'all might think I'm lying but I'm 100% fine when the FBS move comes. I just don't think it'll push the buttons with a big portion of the fan base (older generation of which NDSU carries a shit load of passionate fans). And then when you get a season where there's 3-4 losses on the schedule by the end of October, the Fargodome will be full of blue seats.
Let it rip to FBS at this rate, fuck it.
