FBS break from NCAA appearing less likely now. The more things change the more they stay the same …
"The Transformation Committee has already handed down proposals related to transfer rules and how NCAA enforcement operates as part of phase one of its work. A set of those proposals were approved last month.
Phase two is in progress,
with membership requirements for schools, student-athlete benefits, access to championship events and revenue distribution at the core of the discussions."
It's what I've been saying for a decade now. There's not going to be a split unless something really changes. The P2 need the rest of the college sports world to at least believe they're playing in the same competition. Imagine the LIV golf tour without the Saudi money.
If you think the UCLA/California Board of Regents fight is going to be difficult, try imagining a P2 splitting the major universities across like 30 different states. Why not just keep the current gravy train rolling? Everyone sitting at the table already has a seat...
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Lol now I'm thinking back to all the "We need to stay FCS so that when the split happens we can be sure to move up to the second level" brilliant logic over the years. You know, instead of just moving up to second level ahead of the split lol

I've listed that as one of the possibilities that could happen but I don't remember anybody saying they wanted it to work out that way. Just another FCS Forever strawman in disguise.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
The split crowd has mostly moved onto to needing a regional partner, it is the new FCS forever road block. But yes their logic was crazy on pretty much all points, especially the thought that after doing nothing we would suddenly call the shots and tell the left over FBS schools that we would be joining them or that they would have to join the dregs that make up the FCS.

From about 2013 until about a year ago it was the #1 "we should go FBS" block that would get mentioned here. Everyone was saying it.
"We don't need to be trying to move up, we should just wait for the P5 to break off. Then the G5 will roll out the welcome mat to the top of the FCS." Because because lol. It never made any sense.
"I hope I don't get promoted this year, so that I can get promoted next year" :o

small town hoople admin and small town hoople fans are what's holding us back from FBS. same fans running the ndsu ticket exchange page on facebook that allow und and sdsu fans to buy on there and say "oh we just want seats to be filled, please dont sell your tickets for more than face" blah blah.

I don't think it's a problem with MWC because there is enough revenue there to offset the costs. For other conferences, that could be a real issue. You aren't just talking Football, there's also basketball, cross country, track & field, softball, soccer, volleyball. All of them would have to travel now.
And the "football only" invite is a fantasy, most FBS conferences want all sports members. MAC and SBC kicked out members who didn't sponsor all sports. CUSA said no to "football only" for UMass and UConn.
MWC with Hawaii is the only "football only" scenario I can think of where both sides are happy for now. And Hawaii pays a premium for that with MWC.

What benefit does the MWC get from Hawaii being in the conference? Besides the fact that they pay to be football only?
They have no stadium, they are a stain on the rest of the conference, they take twice as long to get to from San Diego than Fargo(!) and they’re about to contribute to the MW champ not getting a spot in the playoff. Hopefully who’s ever in charge January 1 makes some good business moves.

I'd be onboard with taking Hawaii's spot. But I think it's equally likely we see B12 poach PAC, and PAC poaching MWC, opening up a few spots. That looking increasingly likely, though it might take a little more time. These things often take months of behinds the scenes discussions. What we know is B12 wants to add a western time zone presence.

I mean I’m just taking out my frustration on Hawaii’s joke of a fb program being in one of the best G5 conferences. It would make entirely way too much sense for us to take their place, especially after the condemnation of their stadium. But that’s why it will never happen.
Still our best bet is what you’re talking about. Cascade of teams moving around.
