If in fact the division is watered down. That answer of course would be yes. The next couple of years will speak volumes in that regard.

You are a a real douchebag. Where were you after 1990? Everything goes in cycles and to say we'll never be average? You are a fucking idiot. You should google some teams Nebraska had in the 90's. Do you follow Michigan at all? FCS? How bout Youngstown

Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
Here is another perspective: I was embarrassed by the student showing and many in my section were wondering what the problem was. I think 344's answers to criticism highlight some points about his generation. They grew up on game boys and iPods. They spent their entire childhood on electronic devices and seek immediate gratification. When they can't get it they move to the next thing. It's just the way it is. 344 is right. He isn't alone in his feelings on NDSU. They spent childhood indulged at their every whim. The football team isn't winning - stay home. The football team can't lose - stay home, too predictable, move on to the next gratifying thing. It's a cycle that exaggerates every area of life. Wait until marriage. Or kids. When they aren't being gratified they will move on. This generation is at the peek of short attention spans. Why is anyone surprised? I have some friends who own businesses. They said finding good help is at an all time low. Kids don't commit to anything, can't get to work on time and are unreliable. My neighbor used to own a construction business for many years but he said that hiring reliable help became impossible. He sold and works in HVAC now. Every business owner I've ever talked to says the same thing.

I know its hard to comprehend this right now, but we will have struggles again in the future. That's just how sports works. It doesn't really matter what level it is. The difference is that the high quality programs don't stay down for long. But don't think for a minute UNI, SDSU, Youngstown are just going to sit idle and concede to NDSU. Heck, they can even use this as a motivating factor in recruiting. Everyone knows the old adage about certainty...death, taxes, and change.

Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
I don't nessesarily think people leaving early is disrespectful, and I'm positive they aren't intentionally showing disrespect. I do however think it is not showing the proper amount of respect and is likely an example of fans taking things for granted. Dale Lennon of all people said what the Bison are doing is a once in a lifetime deal and he hopes people up here don't start taking this for granted. Well this last Saturday was once again history in the making extending a record breaking winning streak to 31. I'm sorry but if you left early to beat the traffic you are taking this for granted. Totally their choice and maybe there were better reasons to leave early for some, but for the majority, I doubt it. Self-righteous... Probably, but I'm not taking this Bison run for granted

Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
The gophers continue to have low student turnout even though games are back on campus.

I'm sure some of that is just a generational shift with so many more entertainment options that the olden days when I was a student.

Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
I agree with Ajax & the immediate gratification concept that students expect. Also short attention spans.
Reminds me of the alumni who gave the graduation address at a high school, and he told the graduates they were the most spoiled, coddled, waited on, generation of kids since the beginning of time!!! He said they were told "how SPECIAL they were" since birth, and HE was going to set the record straight. It was a great speech!

Most boring games aren't part of a once in a lifetime record setting winning streak.
Wonder if that Denver traffic is as horrific as that drive out of the Fargodome?

That is a fanbase disillusioned by chronic horribleness. They are winning but somehow they still feel like a lousy team (I'm thinking lousy teams can win in the B10) They will need a streak of convincing wins to re-establish that fan base.
-
Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
I always get a little bit of a kick out of the implication that somehow since NDSU accepted you on campus, you owe it to the football team to come watch it. As someone else mentioned, there are a lot of options for your entertainment time/dollar these days. The marketing folks in the ticket office certainly better not take for granted that NDSU students owe it to them to show up (and I'm sure they don't).
I typically enjoy watching blowouts, because, hey, domination is fun (Izzy, calm down). But the idea that it is necessary for me to stay to the end because I owe the football team some sign of respect makes me roll my eyes a bit.

You are too stupid to understand that you are the worst thing to happen to this program. If you love NDSU so much try to STFU, stay off opponents boards and dont write ay letters to politicians. 95% of fans want you gone. Does that resonate with you?

Then weeks between games would suck.
Chapo does a hell of a job scheming the game on other boards. He does it cool calm and collected...even while psychos make bounties on him and losers dig into his personal life to come up with something to say.

Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
This is the worst thread ever. I wasted ten minutes of my life reading it.
Is it really that big of a deal leaving at halftime of a a blowout? Did you see the 4th quarter of the Broncos game tonight? Most of the stadium was empty. Only the super hardcore stick around when it's a blowout.
Bottom line is the students have kicked ass every year until the weather gets cold. It's the same every year. Clearly there is a pattern... every home game till homecoming is crazy busy and the last 3 games slow down. Maybe marketing could figure that out. It's only been happening for 8 years. Can't blame the students for no shows. Shit the teammakers spots do the same damn thing. Have you seen the empty spots in the reserved lots?
If anything we should sell the unused student tickets. Annoying we haven't figured out this pattern after 8 years

Seriously? Apparently they didn't sell all the returned Indiana State tickets given it was 90% blue. Horse shit job by marketing getting the word out. I knew several people who were looking for tickets and bought them in the tailgating lot and didn't know

As always, I was there to the very end. However, comparing Broncos games to Bison games are completely different. Although I have been a Broncos fans since they late 70's/early 80's, I can't be more than just a fan. For Bison games, I'm not just a fan, but also a former student-athlete and alumni. Hence, why there is more of emotional connection with NDSU than Denver. This is probably why the atmosphere is so much different between the college and professional levels of football.
As far as the Broncos fans leaving early, I do give them crap about it. However, those leaving early (usually mid-fourth quarter) makes it easier for me to get home. Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium holds over 77,000 people. Combine that with an already busy interstate and any other nearby professional sports (Rockies, Avs and Nuggets) getting done (or started) at the end of the game, traffic gets horrible in Denver. Another reason why the two don't compare.
-
Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
nobody who uses the traffic as an excuse compared Fargo to a professional venue...but when you have 8-10,000 cars and only really 5 streets to really stream out of..it would suck if everyone left at once.

Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
I would like to thank the students for not coming. It allowed 7 of my family to go to the game and it cost them less than $100. It was my 3 year old nieces first game in the dome. They loved it.

On the gobison.com ticket website it says this "Additional tickets may be available Friday, (insert date here) at 8:00 a.m. Please check back for availability," for every single game.

Chucky Cheese! We have at least 8-10 kids sitting there in our section. Please let the SDSU & YSU game be loud & get back to the ThunderDome. Students better show up & be loud for that. There was a waiting list for students of 1500 in 1st game and 2000 for homecoming.
Here's the real deal. There's 1000 diehard students that get to the lower section (below suite) and the other students after fighting to get down there those 2 games they got sick of it and gave up.
Remove Suite Save student section

Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section

We know this, but many Bison fans in the general public do not. THIS needs to be communicated via radio, newspaper, tv, email, etc. It should also be mentioned that there are GENERAL ADMISSION tickets & not just sro.
