...Yeah I know. My point is that I don't see him leaving NDSU for a MAC/WAC/MWC job personally. Tressel stuck it out at D-IAA for years until he got his dream job. Bohl makes good money here, people like him, and if he keeps winning, the school will keep giving him money because we have it. Bohl has already been a coordinator at a "helmet school"...or did you forget? It's not going to take much for him to get a shot again. I'm not saying it's happening tomorrow or in the near future, but to say it's not possible is simple minded. If things went better at Nebraska, he would probably already have been one.

Agree. You can go to a bar anytime. Tailgating with friends is where its at.

I can only see Bohl getting an invite to a BCS conference school. And I even think if a school like Mississippi State or Vanderbilt gave him an offer, he'd turn it down. I think he would only go to a place where he could legitimately win a national championship.

he'd be incredibly stupid to turn down an offer to any sec school

It all depends on his goals and objectives. Ya take the road that will accomplish your end objective.

when the low end is at 1.2 million, he'd have to have his brainchecked if he said, thanks...but no thanks

If I remember correctly (and I probably don't), Bohl declined an interview to Mississippi State in 2008, I believe. He was on the list of possible candidates in Starkville. I don't remember if it was '08 though. It could've been the following year.
I've personally known Bohl since he became coach. I talk to him on the phone once or twice a year still. I have a sense of the kind of guy he is. The guy wants to WIN, but he wants to win in a place that already has the recources for it to happen.

Again, IF his objective is coin . . . do it.
IF his objectives happen to be other than coin . . . Just sayin'
BTW - I chose family and staying in the midwest when I faced my version of this question. It ain't all about taking in coin.

Re: 2011 Gopher Game... Let the Planning Begin
The points here re: Bohl make sense and I think it is why he is here for the long haul. For me the long haul is any scenario where the Bison are always making good playoff runs and take it all once or twice. I doubt that he'd ever leave here to go to a depressing perpetual doormat like an Indiana or Iowa State where there is zero compelling reason that this school should be the one to rise up. And schools beyond that would likely overlook an FCS coach until he has a perennial champion contender with a championship or two sprinkled in. And in that case he'd rightfully get looks at those mid-tier or better FBS schools and I think we'd all wish him well if he chose to go for it at that point (especially if he left us a coordinator or two).

No way he goes from NDSU to any national championship contender. If you think that's possible you need to watch some football.

Yeah, there are some people here who need to take a reality check about FCS football. Us beating a few bottom-feeding FBS teams in the middle of low points even for them and in games that are probably last on their priority list for that season says as much or more about the FBS teams as it does about where FCS football stands.
The reality is that there are multiple steps between top-level FCS (where I think we are about to be regular residents) and top-level FBC. I also doubt that Bohl ever leaves for a ho-hum MAC job, but I have no doubt that he'd take a BCS turnaround project if the prospects weren't too grim.

Big article at the top of the Star-Tribune sports section today about how Kill was absolutely pissed off at the lack of attention to fitness, both physical and academic, on the U of M football team. Corrective actions are being implemented...
I miss Brewster.

Don't worry, it will be too late, I give him 3+ years to turn around the program.

Paul Allen was talking about an interview with Kill. The situation didn't sound to good. Kill said they lack team speed, lack depth, and in so many words said they weren't very talented. He also said the depth is bad enough where they won't be doing a regular spring game, but I don't know what regular means for the UofM.
Some other things that were mentioned were academic problems and their quarterback hasn't played at quarterback since highschool.
Minne has issues but its still gonna be a tough game. Kill is gonna have his team playing hard I think.

I'm not sure I understand where this "lack of team speed", etc is coming from at this moment. I know Brewster didn't have any success on the field, but honestly I thought his recruiting classes were supposedly pretty decent and athletic? Is this just Kill's built in excuse-o-meter for the next couple of years until "his" guys get here?

He's "managing expectations", something basement brew screwed up from day 1. Instead of over-promising and under-delivering, Kill is in the process of under-promising right now, with the possible over-delivering taking place in the fall. Even if he goes 0-11, he has conditioned "gopher nation" to believe they will. Though, they probably don't really need to be conditioned to think the gophers will be shitty anyway. Kill is just reinforcing it.

Certainly a lot more pleasing to the ears than "Rose Bowl or Bust!" from Brew-brew.

Re: 2011 Gopher Game... Let the Planning Begin
I think Kill was a good hire for the gophers. He should be able to get them to middle of the pack big 10, maybe even higher.
However, I don't think the gophers are gonna be amazing next year, or even improved. The gophers don't have a lot of talent or any talent coming back. Lets not remember, Kill was the head coach at NIU last year, and a team up north played them to the wire and had a chance to win it at the end.
Also, I was checking out gopherhole and I wonder if some of the gopher fans actually think they are gonna beat us soundly next year. Unbelievable is the only word I can think of. They are a big 10 team (i get that), but I was thinking about our starting defensive players and the guys the gophers have on defense and there isn't too many gopher players that i'd want over ours.

Brewster's recruiting classes where always pretty middle of the pack for a BCS team. Which is another way of saying that they should have a considerable size and speed advantage over us.
Why should the fans of a team who beat consecutive bowl winning teams to end the season once Punky was fired not think that they'll soundly beat an FCS team? I think I read that they are returning 14 or 15 starters. They should soundly beat us. Should and will are not the same thing, but they should.

theres 0 difference between low end major conference school and higher ranked fcs schools.
in fact, the fcs schools are better. theyre just not used to playing in front of 50-100,000 people.

What on earth do you base this on?
If you want to say that in a given year one of the top FCS teams playing in a game that means the world to them could and sometimes will beat one of that year's worst BCS teams playing in a game that means almost nothing to them, than yes I'll agree.
In a vacuum does our program run better than the bottom feeding BCS teams? No doubt about it. But the ingrained advantages that even the worst major-conference programs have can't be ignored for our own convenience.

Re: 2011 Gopher Game... Let the Planning Begin
game that means nothin to them= best excuse in the book bcs schools can fall back on.
any lower tier bcs school overlookin a heavy talented fcs team is retarded

Don't cancel 4m. I can't cancel since I got a discounted rate when I bought in advance. I know many from the horny Bison crew are still staying at the Days Inn. On Sat morning we can all go to the fairgrounds if that's where the party is at...........

Ugly Mug in downtown msp. They gonna be covered in bison gear, owner is my bud and VIP hostess too.

Re: 2011 Gopher Game... Let the Planning Begin
How many Bison fans can we expect to show up? I would imagine tickets will be limited and harder to come by. I say 10k max will get tickets especially with a new Gopher coach and renewed optimism in MN.

Depends on where the Bison party is at that weekend. Heck, I may even get a downtown hotel that weekend if there are downtown parties that weekend.
Either way, Days Inn is still a solid location. There are only a couple of hotels within walking distance to the stadium and all of the stadium-area bars.

Re: 2011 Gopher Game... Let the Planning Begin
personally if I were most of you, I'd stay downtown minneapolis, it was a blast 3 years ago walking from bar to bar seeing all NDSU colors/hats!!
otherwise, Dinkytown would be fun, but not much there at Night (unless you goto 7 corners area across the river)

You're probably right, but if realistic things fall into place we could top 15k in my honest opinion. The new coach enthusiasm only goes somewhere once there are results. Right now this is a team which lost to USD and NIU at home last year. Even if you live in MN and are enthused you may as well watch them play Nebraska, Iowa, or Wisconsin so if nothing else you see a big time team.
A lot of it will depend on how the MN season starts. If that thing is tanking (like they haven't won yet) that will not only depress the MN ticket-holders into not wanting to go but also fire up waffling Bison fans who smell blood. That scenario could push us into the 20k range. I doubt they come in winless, but before us they are at USC and then have a very underrated match up against a damn good Miami OH team. Those could both be losses even if MN is improved quite a bit and that boosts supply for tickets.

I'm new here and to this kind of interaction, but it makes me a little uncomfortable that a player is sending direct messages to anonymous fans. Seems kind of creepy in a way.

hahahaha cute! this isnt 2007 and kill has started a buzz around the gophers. there is no way there is more than 5-10,000 bison fans. if this was to be played at the metrodump i would bet 30-40000 bison fans but this time around there wont be much green and yellow.
i would expect less than 5000 bison fans since there isnt tailgating for away fans anywhere! so most of you drunks will stick to shooting road signs with a case of schlitz in your pick up trucks!

It will be more than 5k. I'd bet a lot on that. I'm not in the 20-30k crowd, but there is no way it will be under 5. Shit, it felt like there were 5k at Iowa State, and that was a road trip for virtually everyone. Not only is MSP an easy trip to/from Fargo (i've done a few day trips to Fargo for games), but there are probably a lot more recent alums living in MSP than in Fargo.

i think ndsu will have about 8000 fans. not much more probably no less. you guys have a great fanbase. i just dont believe there are many wins on our schedulethis season(in the eyes of the fans) and gopher fans wont miss games that we should win and this is a game we should win.
