I know most of you are moving on and we should, but I just saw the replay of the Austin Richard penalty. Initially just like most of you had no idea what happened. Then when you watch the replay you see #10 wrap his arm around his leg and pull him down.
Finally I watched the block that Richard put on him and it looks to me like Richard grabbed his facemask and yanked him down with it. Well based on the refs reactions he never saw that possible fasemask as he only went for the flag after Richard fell on #10. Mr. Richard may not be as innocent as some of us might think he is.
freakin BILL FETTE!!
Is Jack his Dad?
Not necessarily. There is no requirement that the flag has to happen immediately after the official sees the foul. Sometimes you need to process what you see and not react too quickly and sometimes you just can't get that damn flag out of your belt. Fans see these as late flags but they aren't. It's possible he called the foul on the facemask (I haven't seen that on the replay) but if he did, it could have been a live ball foul rather than a dead ball foul and the referee would have announced the facemask part of it.
I think either there is something about the way Richards got up that we can't see or he got too close to the play and didn't see what #10 did to cause Richards to fall on him. I'm guessing the latter more than the former. Believe it or not, some things are easier to see if you are farther away.
I'm not sure if this has been posted in this extraordinarily long thread (I only had time to read through the first 5 screens, but all day long Lakes was looking for a conspiracy regarding the game. Well here is your conspiracy Lakes. The officials on the field were from the CAA, Villanova's conference. Prior to the start of the game, we knew that Villanova had won and was advancing to play the winner of NDSU vs EWU. Villanova wanted no part of playing in the FFD, in front of 20,000 (The Nuthouse Lite), against the Mighty Bison. So the Villanova AD contacts the guys in the Buffalo Wild Wings command center, who let the refs know that Villanova prefers to play EWU, and the rest is history. And yes, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.
I agree with what you are saying, but if it did have to do with the facemask then they would have said it. Seems (to me) like they missed that call, they missed #10's arm wrap and called Richard for maybe something not on tape, like you said or just saw the aftermath and assumed he saw what he called.
And I agree with your last statement the most as I've coached and reffed enough sports to know that is absolutely true.
There is no evidence of a facemask from that video stevdock. Pure conjecture on your part. Give it up.
Who else from Bisonville sees a "likely" or even "possible" facemask in that video?
I don't really blame the ref for the PF call. I mean, he has to call what he sees - he couldn't possibly see the EWU player pulling Richard down. It probably didn't help that Richard looked like he was pretending to fall down - his reaction wasn't what you'd expect to see from somebody who was being tackled (i.e. he flopped rather than struggling to retain his balance.)
I don't blame anybody for that one.
I do have a problem with bad calls made by refs that can review the play in slomo (which PATENTLY happened twice in this game*.)
* Unless "indisputable" means, "Sure, it looks like his entire body is completely flat on the ground before the ball comes loose but there could be a time anomaly that causes the light bouncing off the player to get here quicker than the light bouncing off the football so, no, I can't say for certain that what I'm seeing here in my booth from three or four different angles is really what happened." or "Yeah, the ball bounces up like it hit the ground but that could also have been caused a freak updraft or the gravitational effect of a tiny black hole -or-, check this, maybe the entire universe except the ball displaced itself by 2 cm at exactly the right the moment. Heck, I'm not even sure that I'm watching a football game. I might be dreaming. Or, dude, maybe I'm part of, like, some ALIEN'S dream... WHOOOOAA. I think I'm getting a proximity high from your bong exhaust and it is freaking me out."
CONSPIRACY THEORY?
CAA refs not wanting VIlliNOVA to goto Fargodome

If a fan wants to be pissed, then let him be pissed.
If a fan wants to "let it go", then let him let it go.
There is no right or wrong way to feel. Be an individual and feel however the hell you want.
Just for the record, I'm still fuc*ing pissed and will be for as long as I damn well please.
the calls were terrible and it sucks that a horrible call was made that may have extended the game, but we let EWU's terrible offense drive 90 yards in 2 minutes. We pissed that game down our legs, and the icing on the cake was the shitty officating crew. At least the future looks bright, and hopefully we can pound the sh#t out of EWU next year in the playoffs.
Horrible Spot On Duluth Game>
What The Hell!! Challenge That!
There hasn,t been a game played where an official hasn't missed a call! Some games are worse than others. But blaming our loss, on crooked officials, at this level, is just not realistic. Hey we were all pissed about the last call in the EWU game! Thats ok, but continueous whining about it makes you a Whiner! Nobody likes a whiner!
