Parshall has had a team for many years! They won the 9 man championship in 1983 with Rick Hedberg (who was an assistant up at the unnamed school for awhile and then coached at St. Cloud too, not sure if he's still there). But Parshall had many good teams in the late 80s and through the 90s, I played on the 95-97 teams (as you can maybe guess from my bisonville handle 1998 is year I graduated braves is mascot and 64 was my number), 96 we were ever so close to making it to the dome that year, went undefeated in regular season only close game was Divide County, who beat us by 2 in the quarterfinals and that because of a 60yd fumble recovery for a TD with about 2 mins remaining in the game (eerily similar to Hillsboro this year??). Granted that is pretty much the last good team Parshall has had until this year and this year came as a suprise to many people as they were not expected to do well, they were picked to be 5th in the region by the coaches.
I was pretty excited when they won because I thought Hillsboro would win against Hankinson (although they always play hillsboro good and I have watched the pirates qb play against hillsboro last year and was impressed) since I now live in Hillsboro, would have loved to watch a Hillsboro-Parshall (which would be a rematch of one of the 70s championship bball game and another year they played in the first rounds) matchup as they both play running games... unless the Parshall coach has dramatically changed in the last few years, from what I heard of the game on saturday though it was pretty similar to what he use to run.
Sorry for the long post had to defend Parshall's honor! Go Braves win it all!
I'll be darned. I really had no idea that Parshall has some tradition in their football program.
Please don't take this the wrong way, but the reservations don't have the reputation of great football. Out at Fort Berthold, seems like the big sports are basketball (which Parshall has some good teams) and cross country which is during the FB season.
Did those Pack-in-ah brothers play football?
Yeah I'm pretty sure both of them did, know one did for sure because he broke his ankle the football season before they won the state bball championship, so he didn't play half of the basketball season assuming your attempt at name is the Packineau twins is who you're refering to. :)
See Parshall is approximately half non native (which is the group I fall into) and half native so that might attribute to their ability to have good teams while still being on the reservation, they use to get players from Plaza-North Shore too, but now that P-NS district is aligned with Berthold they go there. Parshall gets some players from White Shield now.
I wasn't offended... just wanted people to know that Parshall has a good football tradition and we had some good teams in the 90s but for some reason bad luck or bad execution would hit at the wrong time and we'd get beat in the playoffs.
Heck of a story for Shanley, losing one of their players earlier this year and they came together as a group well and have been playing some good football!
1st State title game for them in quite awhile.
I just saw a sports program on Esley Thorton of Bismarck, it was on KFYR in Bismarck, the evening news. I am excited to see him in a Bison uniform next year, he seems like a real down to earth guy. He looks like he has great athletic ability, maybe someone can download or link the program to Bisonville from KFYR.
