If memory serves me, he is about 3" shorter and 5 lbs lighter than Phil Hanson as a new NDSU freshman.

You don't give kid scholarships to bust there butts on special teams for 4 years...
6'1" and 185 isn't a bad size...it is a bit small for a LB, he has got to be at least a bit athletic if he is playing QB, WR, FB, and RB, maybe a safety...I guess I was expecting to see his name as a preferred walk on come Feb.
like i said that's a worst case scenario. i'm guessing most undersized kids with possible potential are only getting partial scholarships.
GIven that he played "all over the field" I would be surprised if he got moved to safety. He's almost the size Craig Dahl is now and the guy is playing in the NFL (albeit for the Rams, which are questionably "professional." :D).
Regardless, he's a Bison now! Welcome to the team Travis!
i'm sure northernbison will fill us in
I'm not sure I have the qualifications to evaluate talent like some of you do. Everything I know about Travis is A+. This kid is first and foremost, an athlete. He has excelled at every sport (All State Baseball I think and a excellent roundballer). Furthermore, he is coachable. Just enough cockiness to take the kind of chances that result in making plays that tentative kids don't.
I think he has excellent speed. I believe second fastest on the team but the fastest is one of the speediest kids playing football in ND this year (All classes). He was Class A player of the year on a team that had a guy rush for almost 3,000 yards. He was genuinely surprised that he got the award and was humbled by it.
This is the kind of kid that could play a whole buch of places on either side of the ball. Unselfish too. When the regular QB went down for what looked like the season, the question was asked if anybody wanted to give it a try. He was the one that stepped up and the team actually got more explosive. I know he won't be under center, he's more of a Tebow type than anything else. I expect him on the defensive side. Mayhe linebacker but probably more of a safety at this level.
No predictions from me. I'd hate to jinx the kid. I am super glad that we will see him in Green and Yellow.
Hey, I will take the AAA, AA, and A players of the year from ND every year. If I remember correctly, he was offered a partial. IMO, gotta keep the good local talent coming toward fargo yearly
Not sure if this question is rhetorical or not, but I'll answer anyways. None. Zero, the Jacks don't have any verbals.
I'm guessing SDSU will pick up a couple verbals before xmas. SDSU is hosting their first "official visits" this weekend and have 12 players coming in. Terry V reported that 1 kid is close to a verbal and that Coach Stig has spent the week in Kansas City and Minneapolis.
SDSU should have a smaller class than usual this year with only 11 scholarships on hand.
Travis Beck is a "football player". Why does every recuit have to be measured by size, speed and skill? After watching the Bison the past couple of years I believe that we need more hard nosed players like Travis that have a football mentality. Travis will have a very successfull football career at NDSU and I like the fact that he didn't go to the other college in his own backyard!!
Congrats Travis! Sounds like a great kid. Welcome to NDSU. You can't have enough talent. I also heard this is a partial scholarship. Great High School coach too!
