Has Cam "earned" the starting job as QB1? Yes. Does that mean it is his with no competition? NO. QB1 spot is always open as well as other positions. Best player(s) play.

Every time I see this thread bumped to the top, I am concerned that I’ll see the announcement that Cole Payton has entered the Portal. Would anyone be surprised to see this happen?

I wouldn't be that concerned from what I've seen of him.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
goto a NDSU practice or Pregame early
Payton has a much better arm its not even a debate.
Payton probably runs better too
Who has more upside? Cam can't put a team on his back and WIN a game like Lance/Wentz/Stick sorry. I bet Cole could.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
If Cole Payton's not on the field there must be a reason.
Never forget: Everyone's favorite player is the backup QB.
PS - Cam Miller did not lose that game yesterday and was never in position to win it. See: 38-20 --> 38-21.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
I can remember Payton throwing two passes. One was to the other team in AZ. The other was at a bug under the intended WR feet. (Which he did hit by the way) See what year 3 does for him but I expect Cam to be the man till he's gone from graduation. He's got a 66% passing percentage. Lead the team in rushing TDs. Those are good numbers for a QB and he still has time to get better. Consistency is his downfall right now and he'll have to improve on that.

The reason is Cole is learning and it takes time. Cam is servicable right now. Not dynamic but capable. I have a gut feeliny Cole competes hard next year for the job. He is bigger, stronger, faster and had a better arm. But being a lefty could be hurting him

Takes time? Immediate gratification takes too long! :D
