I don't think there is any 'competition' for a potential invite. I believe the MW already knows who they would add should the need arise. They talk to lots of schools all the time..

I'm sure they have a list of top candidates, and we should easily be in the top 4.

Typically when openings happen though, conference ADs will meet, discuss and debate their options and then vote on it. Part of the debate isn't just which teams, but also how many teams they should add.

For instance, AAC lost 3 teams, and decided to add 6 more to shore things up.

12 teams based on the committee rankings. Even an undefeated NDSU in the Mountain West with a win over Minnesota won't punch a ticket to December madness.
