FBS would greatly improve almost these sports on Day 1.
you could steal 4-5 of best players off the other Dakotas, UNI etc.
All of these sports win the summit then get seeded last and pummeled in ncaas.

Did someone say "student fees"?
Per the Knight DB, here are fees as a percent of budget for various schools of interest (pre-Covid data):
(budgets in millions)
2018 2019
Budget Institutional Student Budget Institutional Student
UND 28.66 9.38 3.61 45.3% 30.50 10.81 3.47 46.8%
NDSU 28.14 7.39 1.49 31.6% 27.25 6.74 1.39 29.8%
USD 19.39 9.00 2.96 61.7% 19.92 9.69 2.93 63.4%
SDSU 22.17 6.22 2.30 38.4% 23.41 7.24 2.75 42.7%
MoiSt 27.35 12.05 4.02 58.8% 28.77 12.56 3.87 57.1%
ISU(r) 28.15 8.90 10.56 69.1% 29.00 9.79 10.56 70.2%
UMt 21.94 6.69 1.19 35.9% 23.35 6.89 1.10 34.2%
MtSU 22.29 9.35 2.00 50.9% 23.18 9.68 2.01 50.4%
Apologies for the terrible (lack of) formatting.
UND's student fees and institutional support don't seem out of line in that group.

I think it's more of a case that NDSU is the outlier with lower student fees. While it looks like that's a large potential money source, with how fast tuition is rising and enrollment is dropping, I don't think we should raise fees. We've already seen loads of people get priced out of FB tickets, pricing out students from enrolling risks a death spiral. Let's get enrollment up then revisit fees.

I didn’t realize D1 non FBS NDSU was eligible for the dance in basketball until they were on the verge of making it the first time.
So if I was a basketball stud or my kid was…. I wouldn’t really seriously consider NDSU. Not over like Marquette for instance.

It is interesting though. We're not talking about thousands of dollars per student. To bridge the gap with UND some quick math:
17% of $28.14M is $4.78M
$4.78M divided by 12,500 students is $382.70 per student.
$382.70 divided by two is $190 per student per semester
We're not pricing anyone out by catching up with all of the peer institutions that Sic listed. Apparently as of yesterday the fed gov't is interested in bankrolling ridiculous education expenses anyways...
I think I found where your add'l revenue can come from to keep away your scary increase in expenses ;)

I can admit that whether increasing fees in an era of declining enrollment is good or bad for a university is a matter of opinion. You know mine, I know yours. NDSU has clearly chosen to stay low. I have absolutely no influence on that.

If you could name a FBS conference that is a logical fit for NDSU geographically, financially and competitively without killing off the rest of the athletic department I'm all ears. 700+ pages suggest that's not happening.

You've said a few times now that you don't really care about NDSU FB anymore, so I'm puzzled as to why you have such a strong opinion on the question of NDSU-to-FBS to post here so frequently?
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Oregon sports guy on 1660 right now COMPLETELY validating ML's approach
No one has a clue what is going to happen, and if you're not in the SEC or B1G, you'd be stupid to make a decision right now
No worries guys. We'll leave them behind here soon ... be patient
