Let him sit a year or two. Why rush it?

That'd be ideal. Kev is not a patient man/woman though.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
What's gonna be funny is when he ends up being a backup all because some people assume he's the best because they are jerking off to his...calf muscles?

Last year was a little rough for me. Our QB couldn't scramble out of a wet paper bag. The sight of a recruit who is physically capable of running the ball may have made me a bit excited.
Also hahaha at him riding the bench his entire career.

I'm thinking 2 or 3, depends on how many seasons QP plays and if he is great and improved yoy. Plus there are injuries
That free year of eligibility may play a role
2021
Payton true freshmen
Qp Jr (so for eligibility)
2022
Payton rs fresh
Qp senior (Jr eligibility)
2023
Payton so (starts if qp is done)
Qp senior (if he uses extra year)
2024
Payton Jr
2025
Payton Sr

Good enough for Carson, good enough for me.
This would assume that QP is an absolute monster that will never get off the field and that he loves it here so much he stays the extra year. Lot of possibilities there but I'm down for either.

This would also assume Payton is a monster. Maybe both of them suck or maybe both are Trey Lance level

He has better throws on that 9 min vid than QP and CM have in their careers, or on their QBU tapes combined

yup, there's a reason Coach Entz & Staff made the decision before airing this.... and notice they only spent about a minute showing him throw and the rest doing goofy stuff.. hmmm

A lot of those throws were by JJ Woodin and Peter Anderson. Cole talked the most in the video but all 3 freshman were featured. All 3 of them looked really good

Am I the only one who will be fascinated by the QB battle next year? This reminds me of Zeb/Lance all over again.....unless QP2 goes nuts the end of this year.

Payton will be a better runner and passer. I’ll be surprised if they move away from the senior starter though

Unless QP gets injured I dont see moving off a starter.

It may be a Jensen/Wentz situation. If you are winning with Jensen, you don’t change to Wentz, even if he is the better talent overall.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
I find it hard to believe the Bison can keep winning with the poor passing of QP.

No.This time next year QP2 will start getting NFL talk. He is on par (or at least in the same ballpark) with Eastons first 6 games starting and he had a full redshirt season plus 7 games on the sideline as a backup. Quincy ran the scout team
Right now he is learning the system and he's the best player on the team not named Watson. He's our leading rusher too.

In my mind, depends if QP2 is clutch like Jensen.... time will tell.

Lol no he won't. He is not nearly accurate enough as a passer. I don't even think he's that great of a runner either. Looks slow and not nearly as elusive as Stick or Lance.

Jensen was so fucking clutch. Man what a 3 year run he led.

You can have your big arm Carson and Uber talented Trey. When it comes to Easton or perhaps for the old timers a Steve Walker, I’ll even let you have your say, but when it comes to picking my favorite NDSU QB of All Time it will be Brock everyday but most especially on Game Day!

Perfectly reasonable for Brock to be your favorite QB, but let's not forget that Wentz was really clutch too. See SDSU & ISUr playoff games in 2014, along with UNI in 2015.

The '14 Chipper is one of my favorite all time games.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
And for clutch, look no further than Easton at Iowa in '16. That absolute backbreaking 25 yard run he had up the gut on the winning drive.

Let's revisit a year from now and see who was wrong. I see the best player on the roster. He has twice the arm stick has and is closer to NFL Prototypical size than Easton.
BTW check out Josh Allen's college accuracy and say it can't be fixed. Besides QP2 is almost completing 60% or his passes

To be clear, I said NFL looks. I didn't say first round pick. As of today he's a player with 6 career starts. By this time next year he will hopefully have had a minimum of 21 starts and a full offseason, spring ball and fall camp (and winter camp if we make it to Frisco)

I never thought Easton was even in the stratosphere for NFL caliber QB. It wasn't until his senior year that I believed he was borderline.

Brock was surrounded by talent top to bottom on that team. That roster was filled with legends. Billy Turner, Zach Vraa, Ryan Smith, Leevon Perry, Travis Beck, DJ McNorton, Marcus Williams, Andre Martin, Ryan Drevelow the list goes on. This is a chicken and egg dilema. Did Brock make the team better or did his teammates make Brock and Brent Vigen look better.
