I saw a Red Lake girl signed with Denver. I wonder if she was on our radar.

Has played the last 3 summers with North Tartan. Will be a 3,000 point scorer when her career is over. Dominated the state tournament this past winter as they won the title. Like a lot of the Class B kids she's been able to dominate a low level of competition with her superior athleticism.
I wonder if we ever recruited her. She's playing 27 minutes a game for the 7-2 Yotes right now.

Moorhead handed Shanley its 2nd loss of the season.
Guard Sam Haiby had surpassed 1000 points earlier in the
season, in this game she set a school record with 44 points.
Chris Murphy article:
Quote:
She had the total package," Moorhead coach Jed Carlson said. "She really got to the free-throw line and attacked. She was hitting from the outside, attacking inside. What I'm most proud of is she willed the team to victory. It was the total game she put together for us."
Along with Haiby's 44 points, she added 10 rebounds six assists, six steals and hit 20 of the 25 free throws she attempted.
Shanley had it's ND record winning streak ended earlier in the season.

Word at the game is UNC is looking at the Moorhead young lady. It almost seemed liked an effortless 44 points. If you guarded the 3, she went to the basket and often got a "and 1", if you backed off, she would make the 3. Once the ball was in her hands, couldn't take it from her. She did attend the NDSU basketball camp last summer, and NDSU coaches were at the game at Shanley, but they may have been watching Emily Dietz as well.

Is this the girl that played baseball with the boys? If so, I remember her being fairly young, but she was quite the athlete then already and I remember thinking I hope the Bison are keeping an eye on her...is she a senior now?
NDSU needs to do everything they can to sign her.
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
I don't think NDSU has a shot if UNC is looking at her.

Still try. Maybe 1300 miles is not what she wants.

Northern Colorado isn't that tough to compete against.....:)
However, looking at doesn't mean there is an offer, at least yet.
So if someone can post the news of an actual offer from a P5 school......

Yeah I'm not saying we shouldn't try. Just being realistic.

She was at NDSU girls basketball camp last summer. NDSU coaches were at the Shanley / Moorhead game when they played a few weeks back. Emily Deitz was playing in the same game.
I have heard it stated that UNC is looking, another person said "a North Carolina School" is looking at her. She isn't tall compared to other D1 girls. She is only 5' 5".
As for North Tartan, she actually played, whereas Sarah had a more limited role on the team, and Sarah switched teams.
As for AAU ball, Nike, UA travel teams are the top teams, North Tartan is a step below in the pecking order.
So I wouldn't count NDSU out.
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
According to the Forum - regarding Sam Haiby's game a few days ago:
"Haiby became Moorhead's all-time scoring leader with the performance, passing Kelsey Jacobson's 1,644 career points."

North Tartan plays in the Nike league and is a consistent top 10 program in the country. Walseth played there in her AAU days.

Horrible miss on Wahpeton's Irwin. she put up 39 tonight, she is incredible... her and Moton from West Fargo both got away from NDSU, ick.

Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Lauren Ware 6' 3" freshman from Century High in Bismarck. For a tall freshman she seems to run the floor well and is not clumsy for her height and age. So for our Bismarck Bison fans is she someone that should be looked at? The only reason I bring up the younger ones is that if you start watching them as they mature you can tell if there is more room to improve in college or if they have peaked already. To my untrained eye, I liked what I saw from her on the court for only being a freshman.
-
Re: Catch all Recruiting thread
Walseth is in Brookings this weekend watching the State A girls basketball tournament.

Emily Dietz is listed at 6'3', and Ware was 2 inches taller. So I think Ware is a bigger than 6'3". Some things that stood out. When she block shots she didn't commit fouls and was able to control the ball. Her pick and roll were smooth. She would set the high screen, pivot to the basket.
Her dad was all conference when he played for the University of Mary.

This young lady has some very good skills at her age. I really hope NDSU is making contact early on her and gets their foot in the door. Hate to see the Ms. Basketball from Wapheton going to SDSU.

High major probably. NDSU has been on her for about 9 months.

Walseth is out and about at quite a few girls events. Locally there are few good travel teams and a local travel tournaments that draw the top girls in. So Walseth and NDSU is out watching and identifying the top girls players in the region. High school girls basketball is a pretty small circle and the better players are well known. The young ladies playing basketball are very well aware of who can play, who can't play and what the plans are.
Aside from the local travel teams from the Bismarck, Fargo, GF, there are a few local AAU teams that are more regional in nature. And will get a more class B feel to them. This only helps in meeting and seeing the other good players in the region. Again Coach Walseth will hit the main AAU girls tournament in the cities this summer.
As for the Irwin from Wahpeton, the word was she had indicated she wanted to go to SDSU early (sophomore year). So NDSU may have never been in the running for her. When you talk about strength and size needed to play D1, she is lean. If she weights 125 I would be shocked. But she can play.
A lot of good BB players in high school don't look to play college basketball. Volleyball is game of choice.

This also shows you need to get to the kids early. Can they change their minds, sure. But if you can get the early start on them is great.
I have heard that also. Why is that? Less of a grind and easier on college studies to play volleyball?
