I just don't know why you and I then don't agree that we have to find a different FBS path in the meantime (...one that will hopefully make us attractive in the future to the MWC or AAC, if that's where we want to end up).
Straight to the Big 12 or bust baby! Can I get a hell yeah Chapo?

No f'n way any MVC teams are moving to the Big Sky. Non-starter. Plus most of the schools in a Big Valley mashup aren't even remotely ready for FBS.
MWC keeps coming up despite absolutely no indication they've ever looked at us. We're not a good fit at this time and an invite in the next year means they've become desperate. Definitely won't be joining the MWC as you know it now.
I don’t understand why you think the MW needs to be publicly announcing they’re looking at us months before there would be some sort of definitive announcement? There was 0 rumblings about UCLA, USC, OU, UT, JMU, the whole CUSA to SBC shakeup, etc. The days of months and years of courtship are over.
The MW keeps coming up because they conferences that slot over the top of them geographically (PAC and B12) are the most unstable P5 conferences, which has the highest chance of trickling down to affect them. On top of that, unlike the MAC, there are very few legitimate options for the MW to look to should they need to replace schools.
We’ve come up in a conversation during a presidents meeting about which schools could they be looking at (a very rare one-time look into their otherwise obviously private discussions). Do you really think the MW would come out and say “Hey yeah if any schools leave, we’re going to replace with NDSU”. Obviously not.

Well if MW doesn't work then we need to look at CUSA. I doubt MAC takes us, so I'd sure like the naysayers to tell us what path they want to FBS.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Hard to say with all the dominoes yet to fall, but I don’t think NDSU was serious about FBS until very recently, and wanting it is the first step. But one thing is certain. When it happens, it’ll seem out of the blue. JMU’s open disdain for FCS was an anomaly. Most presidents/ADs keep their cards very close to their chest.
Listening to ML, geography isn’t the roadblock many on here want, and right now it seems all-sports is more likely than FB-only, which would mean that we’re not financially ready yet. BUT that could all change very quickly once the fate of the NCAA/FBS becomes clear. When the playoffs expand, and the G5 role in that playoff is set, things will start to pick up. We still don’t know what the FBS landscape of the future is, and it’s impossible to make predictions until we do.
But I will make one prediction – a move up to a higher division of CFB is highly likely for NDSU and only one CFB team from the great state of North Dakota will make the jump. The state already subsidizes the hockey school to "keep up", and that approach just won’t be sustainable at a higher level of competition. Nor would it make any sense. South Dakota is more of a puzzle to me …

How many times do I have to say I think the xDSU pair would be a good fit in the MAC before people stop saying I'm against an FBS move?

I didn't say you were against all FBS moves. But the parameters for you are pretty narrow. That's totally fine. That's where you are at. But you have to admit, there has been about as much MAC movement as there has been MWC movement, i.e. none.

That's their modus operandi, pick a scenario that they know won't work for years to come.

It is unfortunate that we still have to speculate about this. We don't definitively know if NDSU wants to move up because NDSU hasn't put anything out there publicly declaring so.

The FBS at all cost folks want to paint anyone not looking for Indy or a trash move as "against" FBS, which is stupid.
Majority here want a sensible move. In practical terms, that likely means MAC or MWC.

They can't and they won't, for what should be obvious reasons ... so read the tea leaves
FCS won't tolerate for very much longer what NDSU FB has become, and all indications are that NDSU FB has no intention of slowing down its ambitions
SDSU, MT State, MT ... none of those will move up without some "showcase" of FCS success
I'll let you do the math ...
