Re: A new and better FBS thread
We're forgetting that the 4 team playoffs (?!?) was only created because the P5 conferences were sick of SEC champ playing the SEC 2nd place team. But hah check it out 3 teams in the 4 team playoffs currently are from SEC... funny how that works. G5 conferences had no power in creating the 4 team playoff at all they just accepted it in hopes that some day it may be a 20-24 team playoff then they may get a couple teams in, and didn't want to look like hypocrits since they've been clamoring for "playoffs" for several years now.
That goes for Boise States and NIUs of FBS also. Would Boise even been in the 4 team playoff the year they beat Oklahoma at Fiesta? Don't think so and that has to be the closest any G5 has gotten a sniff at the "championship". Where are NIU and Boise State right now? Either of them even in the top 25?? They will not get in unless they play all top tier P5 OOC games and beat them handily at that, then they may have a shot, but their conference play is going to be an anchor on their leg the rest of the season.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Neither of you can say if those schools would or would not get in with 11-0 or 10-1 records. If they had multiple strong non conference wins, especially on the road, then they would have a chance to get in the tourney although one loss could be tough to overcome unless their non conference schedule was off the wall tough. If Boise St or NIU played Eastern Michigan and some other bottom feeders for their non conference games, then forget about it, they're out. So I guess you're both right and wrong; does that mean the end of the world is near?

1 non P5 schools in the top 25 and not even the team that is undefeated.
The only way a non P5 teams makes this field is with multiple wins over quality P5 teams. And when they switch to a bigger playoff they won't even play.

Watch Marshall, they will provide the best picture there is. AAC is a better conference than the MAC. If they run they table they won't break the top 15.

Marshall is sadly shit out of luck, their schedule is horseshit and even if this were an 8 or 16 team field they'd be watching on TV. In order for a non Power 5 conference team to even have a chance at sniffing the playoff field, they'll have to schedule their non conference schedule with little to no chance of escaping without a loss or two and they'll have to go on the road 9 times out of 10 if not 10 out of 10 to play those games. So even if the little guy steps up their schedule, chances are slim to none they'll be able to advance.
Marshall's schedule:

LMAO. That is the most naive post I have seen in the past 12 months. Nobody ever breaks or renegotiates a contract when it comes to college football: neither coaches, AD, schools, TV networks, etc. :) This is especially true when BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ARE AT STAKE.
Last month, ESPN already had an article that schools want expansion to 8 teams asap. With 2 or 3 SEC teams in the playoffs--it's a virtually certainty that the playoffs will be expanded to 8 within a year or two to eradicate the perceived SEC bias.
I HATE TO MAKE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SAID NO TV EXECUTIVE EVER. Each extra playoff game is millions of dollars in revenue. Let's see, more shit bowls in El Paso and Boise where the TV ratings suck? Or additional playoff games. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that playoff expansion is going to happen.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
spot on... spot on. This playoff thing will be to 16 in 2-3 years and NDSU has to be in it!!
You want to shock the dam world, join the mountain west, mac or sunbelt. Go 10-1 & get the #15 seed and play kansas state and beat them in the 1st round.

Boise State would have made an 8 team playoff in 2 or 3 different years. Northern Illinois played in a BCS bowl so by deduction they would have made a 16 team playoff that year. After SEC domination with 2 or 3 teams out of 4, nobody believes the 4 team playoff will last long. The other 4 "small conferences" in the Big Five will demand at least 8 teams so their conference has a chance to send a team to the playoffs. Of course, in an 8 team playoffs, the SEC would probably have 3 to 5 teams in. :)

Except the players.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Ok let's assume best case and they expand and the little guys get a shot. How well does the NDSU fanbase accept a shot at the playoffs 1 out of maybe 4 yrs with no chance in winning a title? The spike in season ticket sales didn't happen until we made the playoff run. Will the fans be interested?
