Re: A new and better FBS thread
Sorry to pop his bubble, but it will never happen
When FBS leaves the NCAA, "FB-only" will become redundant and the door will slam shut with a resounding boom. The only flow will be the other way, sort of like a diode
I’ll say it again because it’s worth repeating. NDSU is the only team in FCS worthy of jumping up to FBS. In fact, NDSU deserves to FBS more than several current FBS teams

Jackson St made a lot of headlines and people think they're competitive, but forget they lost to Sagarin ranked 146 LA Monroe last year. And that's the best team the SWAC has offered in a long time. The courts have not been kind to the NCAA and there's a good chance the SWAC would win an anti-trust case if it came to that, but none of the existing FBS will care in the slightest other than scheduling some easy win counters.

Massey Ratings of all DI football conferences. You'll need to scroll to find the SWAC.

I don't get that take. Perhaps it might be the fair thing to do (just perhaps, I'm not personally sure) but I know my own interest in college football would plummet if it becomes less about the schools to which I feel an affinity toward and more about sponsorships and obscenely paid college athletes. There's no doubt in my mind that money will ruin the sport by consolidating talent in the biggest 20 - 40 schools.

IMO it opens the door for schools to get rid of scholarships. Eliminate one of the most expensive line items on the balance sheet and the one item that is in place to offer some balance within divisions. No scholarships = No scholarships limitations.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
It’s already here. At least this makes it formal. And no, the G5 won’t run away. Thompson’s presser the other day should make that abundantly clear …
The disparity between the P2/P3/G5 has been in place for some time, and it has no bearing on the G5 wanting to be included in FBS
Hoping the G5 breaks away and joins the top of the FCS is pure fantasy. The only potential breaks are FBS from NCAA or P2 from the rest of FBS, and I think the latter is a long shot at this point
Re: A new and better FBS thread
It hasn't been here a long time. Money is now flooding into this space. The exponentially increased amount of money and the consolidating of that money will starkly change college sports, primarily football and MBB with all other sports having to just follow.

G5 will have to find a way to stay relevant financially (end of year tournament) or cut costs in some sports to go all in for others. That IMO is what forces them to leave. Current business model for them is not going to work. They will go broke trying to keep up.
