Re: A new and better FBS thread
Being a FB only affiliate is a fantasy from the FBS or Bust crowd that know but won't admit our Olympic sports aren't up to FBS conference standards. Rather than improve our sports they'd prefer to blame the flavor of the week for why we haven't gotten an invite.

Might be where it's headed, TBH, given current trends. They could always drop back down to D2, of course.
But back to the discussion between MWC and BigHorns
"and we're not done yet" - Mike Aresco right after they raided CUSA. They are at 14 now, though, so unclear what he has in mind.

4th of July. NDSU takes American Athletic Conference invite... I could live with that

Another recent quote from Aresco "“How big can conferences grow before they’re not even conferences anymore?” Aresco said. “They’re basically leagues with divisions. I don’t necessarily subscribe to the notion that there’s going to be four 16-team conferences"
AAC was initially targeting MWC schools, and that could have created an interesting cascade for us.
Now, my guess is they stay put until either Big 12 raids them again (Memphis, USF are thought to be possible), or when their media contract expires and gets reworked. I could see Big 12 adding two more once the dust settles and OU/Texas depart for the SEC. Bowlsby has aluded to this. That could trigger another round, with possible openings in either MWC or AAC.
I wouldn't expect any significant action this year though ... the conferences are all sort of processing/digesting the last round of moves.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
if the Big 12 keeps bleeding that might be NDSU'S best shot

IMO, if they continue to bleed teams they're probably the conference that is most likely to take a program based on the quality of their football. Still, they'd have to fall a far, far ways to take a school with a 20k indoor stadium in Fargo, ND.
Regardless, the Big 12 getting picked apart would be VERY good for our chances of moving up.

If BIG 12 came to NDSU & said. "build a 45,000 stadium and you're in"
would NDSU/Fargo actually do it?

With all the oil money!!!! Harumph!
Re: A new and better FBS thread
To be fair, if NDSU could raise around $500M+ for a 45k seat indoor stadium on short notice that would draw the attention of a lot of conferences.
