NDSU's funding stagnates or declines (as it does periodically) and college leadership considers the lessened fan interest in football, despite the continuing success of the program on the field. Knowing that NDSU can continue to beat 90% of FCS even with no new, or even fewer, resources, the administration's commitment, fiscal and other, declines. The team would still win, but the number of wins each year could be expected to decline as parity returns to FCS. After a few more years, no one here would be talking FBS.
Hope this is just my dystopian nightmare...
I can say with 100% confidence this will never happen. I went back to look at some "where were we at 10 years ago" threads towards the tail end of that awful 2009 season and there was plenty of FBS chatter then... for a football team that was a 3-8 MVFC bottom feeder.

If this would happen (and I have little confidence that the P5 would ever allow it) NDSU would become a sought after addition to any G5 conference because then the quality of the team/program becomes a top priority for conferences regardless of home market, geography, etc.

We need to keep in mind that with the Soy and Sugar beet catastrophes that the next 2-3 years might not be good for donations and fund raising

ummm.... what?

So it is about "competition"? I would think that unlike basketball where you need a number of teams to fill 30 game schedules, football conferences would b alot more protective of there "share"-------i really have no idea how any of this works, but I just don't see how kicking out half the shools at the highest level of division 1 football makes any sense (a p5\g5 "split")

I think if they change the playoff so a G5 conference could get an automatic bid like you suggested it helps NDSU's pitch to G5 conferences. I don't think the quality of the team/program plays as big of a factor now as it would in that scenario.

Remember the P5 has already broken away. And you are correct--when the G5 finds out what there cut is they may finally realize that they are nothing more than the red head step child being paid to go to their corner and STFU. If they continue in that roll there will be no realignment as they will be happy with their token bowl games and conference payouts and I dont think they are going to want to share..

Your either on to something or on something professor, either way I like it! So in a "win and your in" landscape of major college football, smaller conferences would want a program like ndsu in there ranks in hopes of advancing and earning more money for all (think Gonzaga)

I see what your saying but I'm looking at the "March madness" model-------people take days off work 2 watch that! U don't think a football tourney with the same model couldn't succeed? In December, when it's already proving people will watch any and all bowls "just because"?

It could but that would be a lot of football. AND you have to deal with the old boy network---bowl games. They are the reason we dont have a real playoff.

It's also "a lot of basketball" (to the tune of billions)-------just think that 1st Saturday 4 games on 4 different networks at 11 3 and 7-------theres your sweet 16 right there

I like it Slick! If they want to keep their precious bowls a 24 team FBS playoff could be played over 22 bowl games in 4 weekends to get down to the championship game. They could even keep their New Years Six games separate and just select them from teams already eliminated in the playoffs.

Money money money money, money! (U know the tune)-------i dont see anyway moving half of the fbs teams down a level makes anybody MORE money, if that did ever happen I'd say most of them would just drop football at that point

I can go for that... but if we blow through the playoffs.. dont be surprised if its the only topic of conversation in the offseason.. especially with a loaded team returning!!!

That would never happen. Fans of the teams would not travel to 3 or 4 different locations on a playoff run. It's hard enough now with a difference championship game and a bowl game or 2 playoff games.
If the playoffs expand much further they are going to have to go to hosted sites for the first couple rounds. Once that happens the bowls will go away. The teams that don't make an expanded playoff beyond 8 teams will see even less value in bowl games and the main bowls will not host the 3rd or 4th place teams from a conference.

Oh, I know it will never happen but I don't necessarily buy that it wouldn't happen because of travel.
Most lower-mid tier bowls are horribly attended now anyway. This would never happen because it would wreck the traditional system of a bowl game being the season finale and it would cut the opportunities for about 40 teams to get their warm fuzzies by competing in a bowl game for getting their 6 wins or more.
If the playoffs are ever expanded I'd agree that it's far more likely to be campus sites hosting in the expanded rounds than more neutral site bowl games being rolled into it.

I’m in on this. What a great, yet unexpected year. I follow other FCS message boards, and those that are in or close to in on playoffs are pumped and excited.
The really only downer threads here are from the FBS now/Fatigue posters, and we know what who geniuses of those threads is. No more clicks/replies to them please

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
I don't see guns to anyone heads to
A) read a thread where an article had NDSU on it
B) reply to a thread.
NDSU is mentioned in this article.
the fatigue thread is about lack of buzz w NDSU
FBS better thread is strictly for FBS.
it's not that hard. sorry.

Believe me, we are not distracting the players by thinking about 2 things at once. If the players were distracted by all the bullsh*t on here, we wouldnt have won a game in the last decade bahah.
our conversations have approximately 0/100,000,000 effect on their performance on the field

I've talked with numerous former players in this current dynasty.. some of them even said they thrived on all the smack talk that NDSU fans had with other teams, because it made them want to back it up! Motivation.
last time I checked, anyone can start a new topic on this forum, if posters dont want to talk about the AAC or Fatigue, start a new topic. geesh, its a message board, not fascism.

Split half of the ones that Fargodome currently does, if somehow you pull off that coup, as in you're not going to attract new ones that are any better? Still not a money maker, nor being used 365 days a year. And Fargodome becomes a red number drag on the city of Fargo and starts eating up tax dollars like that potato storage facility up north.
You must make the best business plans...
I'm all for a new stadium that makes sense but it's going to be hard pressed to make the numbers pencil out by any stretch of imagination. In a way NDSU sold it's FB soul to city of Fargo with the Fargodome. That said I think they both need each other but I'd say Fargo would be hurt less by losing NDSU games than NDSU would be by trying to make a stadium work/profitable or even break even on their own now since they'd essentially have to start from ground zero. The only way I can see it happening is through a very large monetary gift of the likes that hardly anyone has ever seen.

who cares about the Fargodome/City of Fargo if NDSU has a stadium like this. Fargodome is outdated and was built too small for the growth of NDSU football and quite frankly the city of fargo 200,000 people in the area now?
NDSU would make the revenue, what does NDSU make revenue wise on NDSU football in the fargodome now?

For most things they put on in there now it definitely is size for what city needs, what other events other than NDSU football is it too small? It probably misses out on the larger convention center stuff no doubt but Fargodome isn't really even set up like a convention center currently. Who cares? Um city taxpayers do. I'm not one so I guess I don't really maybe? So NDSU builds a partially outdoor stadium how are you going to host trade shows/conferences in this thing 365 days?
NDSU stadium would require a whole administration to run it/market it etc. Then you have to hire all the event staff etc as well. I think a lot more goes into costs than your brain is thinking on this. I don't know those answers for sure but pretty sure a NDSU indoor stadium (if somehow managed that) and fargodome in the same vicinity would bleed each other dry and neither one would end up being a good facility for anything.
