Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
I am excited about the two high school players but when has an FBS transfer really worked out for the Bison? Purcell and the o-lineman from this years team both left during the year. The kid from Auburn (DE) wasn't a stand out but did play 2nd team. The last one that I can remember that worked out was Stauss but that is arguble...
Now JUCO's are a completely different story...Does NDSCS have any good players that NDSU is after?

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Bison06, that is because UND promised Chappel an indoor practice facility and he wouldn't have to go to school......well, he didn't go to school......
-
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Richardson was a huge success in my opinion.
-
Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Haha, yeah I am glad that one didn't work out for us. I'll take all the credit for sending him to UND after the way he turned out.

Well, he was a student trainer, so I guess one can take that for what it's worth...I just found it humorous that he pegged Walker as a stud when he only saw him practice his redshirt year.

He was indeed a 2-star Rivals:

He's a big kid now, 6'3" 220 lbs, listed as a SS on the WY roster:

However, he never made the depth chart:

Mike Breske, the DB coach at WY, ex-DB coach that is, and the DC and Assistant HC is a friend of mine. I will try to contact him although his UWY email bounces back.

You know I was thinking about this today (when did we start thinking the 2003 class was great). The answer is: Immediately but we weren't so good at predicting who was going to shine. I hopped into the way back machine and found this thread:
http://www.bisonville.com/forum/show...?t=5129&page=3
Back then, the first we heard about 12 of the commitments was on signing day!
NDSU signed five Illinois players in Feb, 2003 - I think Joe Mays was the only one that wasn't a Top 100 player. Two of those Top 100 guys never played a down, and the other two were Walker and Drago. I couldn't find the thread but I'm pretty sure that most of us didn't get excited about the 5'11 LB until his first Spring game in which he exploded (remember the int/fumble return in which he carried about four offensive players ten yards down the field - and then got pulled out of the game for celebrating?) I think that's when bisonville posters really started getting on the Mays bandwagon. As for Walker - people thought he was a great signing right way - which proves that fans can't be wrong all the time
Even in that 2003 class with Mays and all, only about 1/2 contributed and a fair number never saw the field (you can see it by looking at the 12 players who we hadn't heard about before signing day in the linky). I think NDSU has done much better at identifying talent since then.
Here's another link to our reactions to the 2003 class (most of the links in it are dead now, unfortunately):

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
In regards to Gimmestad, you guys found yourself a great player with tons of extra potential. He loves to play football. Pretty quick for a big guy I might add. Playing basketball this winter and does well at that as well.

First off congrats to the staff on Jukem...I think he has all the attributes of being big time.
As far as Varmah Sonie, I have heard the exact opposite. If he was to receive an offer from Minn., he would accept it faster then I typed this note.
I don't have a subscription to that site, but I have not heard he has an offer. Supposedly, Minn. is recruiting 5-6 DB's for 3-4 spots left. If they can't fill the 3-4 spots, Varmah Sonie is plan B. Supposedly, Sonie and Bryce Mcneil (#1 recruit in Minn that is not commited to anyone yet) are really tight and if Sonie would get a Minn. offer, Mcneil would commit too.
Anyways, the power of the internet.....just what I have read and not heard first hand, and mixed rumors.
The video I was able to see on Sonie is impressive and he looks like a player that plays with a chip on his shoulder. I would excited about him.

I heard from one of his high school coaches that he was offered the scholarship, and from what i know of the situation he is hesitant to go to the gophers because how things went down with his older brother and, I'm assuming again :hide:, we may be hesitant to offer him because of how his older brother did us after he was a transfer here and then just left the team after one season. Again this is all speculation, I have no first hand knowledge of the situation, but I know Varmah has some hard feelings for the gophers because of the situation with his brother, I don't know if this is enough to keep him from turning down their offer or not though.

Re: 2009 Recruits
Sonie absolutely DOES NOT have a MN offer and would commit to MN on the spot if he got an offer. As Fifty wrote, the big catch with Sonie is his relationship with Bryce McNeal. His size is the only thing keeping bigger schools away.
Sonie is hearing from a variety of schools.
"North Dakota State, St. Cloud State, South Dakota State, Winona State, Moorehead State and a little bit from Minnesota. Moorehead offered me a partial scholarship," he said.

Re: 2009 Recruits
I got a quick question here, not really about recruiting but here goes. Who is Jamar Champ, why did he leave, and were did he go??? I read what slick has to say and it sounds like he was good.

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Somerset (WI) OL/DE Bryan Witzmann (6-8, 255) is very interested in NDSU and has an official visit scheduled.

It says South Dakota strikes again b/c he has an offer from USD, making him the 10th kid from Wisconsin to receive an offer from USD.

Some may be interested in some additional information regarding NDSUs first verbal, Kevin Vaadeland. Hewas picked as the McDonald's player of the week for basketball. In their win against Bagley Monday night he had 27 points and 16 rebounds! I like the coaches recruiting multisport athletes.

We are recruiting a lot of 2 sport guys who play basketball, but i havent heard of any wrestlers yet. Guys like pete campion who were successful wrestlers in high school really turned into great players in Fargo.

Not much History on here about Jamar, I remember him as a recruit but don't have a clue where he is now! I think he left the team in the spring of 07 maybe late summer??

Only Champ can answer one of your questions (why did he leave). When he came into fall camp for the first time, it looked like he might play as a true freshman but the coaches said he was having trouble picking up the offfense so he redshirted. In June 2007 he left the team, Kolpack speculated that it was because he had too many players in front of him on the depth chart.

Couple updates\tidbits
Cole Jirik - visited NDSU last weekend, visting SDSU this weekend, and visiting Western Michigan in January. U of M wants him to walk on. I think things are looking pretty good for NDSU as of right now.
Varmah Sonie - I still don't beleive he has a UofM offer....but would jump on it if he did. Grades might be a concern here and thus lack of offers. Has close to 20 interceptions and 5 Kick returns for TD in his high school career. Impressive video and all around playmaker.

Re: 2009 Recruits
Here is a cool link that shows an all state team chosen by a news station in the Twin Citiies I think.

Re: 2009 Recruiting: Quick Reference
Somerset, WI, home to The St. Croix National Golf Course and most importantly The Loch Nes Bar and Entertainment Venue. One of the scenes form the movie Fargo was from there. I played golf a couple of times with Bernie, the owner. The 2 bimboes were sitting at the bar with the Sheriff. It really wasn't a bar, but at the runway where the girls perform. Betnie told them that they had to be out of there by 5:00 because he wasn't goung to lose and business for a damn movie. Great place. Yes, bare ass naked!!

Sorry I dont live in Minot nor do i know much about it. I am from Rutland, ND and I dont think it's an allstar team i just think they are rating the WR's, TE's, and OL's.

Not exactly the truth on Jirak. The Gophers like him,but are waiting to hear from some other kids first. They would prefer that he walk on,but if it comes down to it,i wouldn't be surprised if he gets an offer. Sonie= waiting to hear more on grade issues as fifty said
