I agree, the DL position is tough to find. We are getting better.

Re: 2008 Recruits
The one thing I noticed at all of our games this year (at all the home games) was the lack of a pass rush. Defensive line is just a hard position to transition to. So much you change from HS to college, and definitely from college to the pros. I thought Joe L. did a nice job, but we lacked a quality and consistent pass rush on opponents. I can only imagine what we could have done with a consistent pass rush.

Ya sometimes you need some recruits that will keep the locker room rockin!!!
No I heard Horner from South would know more after Dec. 1st. Heck maybe we didn't even offer him yet.

Remember, Justin Frick and Craig Dahl should have been Seniors this year. The 2007 Bison would have been completely different with these two players on defense. Now, jump ahead four years and think about how happy we will all be that we had the luxury of redshirting the entire 2007 recruiting class.

That's a great point....the D would have been much better this year with those two. I don't think we should ever play true freshmen unless they are very special AND we have an immediate need.

Agreed. We are exceptionally deep now and with the added scholorships it will be tough for a freshman to make the field. We run a complicated offense so the year learning it helps.

what do we know about this most recent verbal?

He seems like a project and didn't get serious looks from big schools. He was 2nd team all conference as a Jr at defensive end AND 2nd team all conference as a Sr at linebacker so he's good at both positions. He's a solid athelete with some good upside. Threw shot put and is strong. According to the Forum, the Bison want him as a defensive end.
It makes sense to put him at end because we're loaded at linebacker with Preston Evans and Reid along with Matt Anderson, Tyler Henry, Luke Senger, Eddie Beson to go with current starters Maersh and Humber.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
Another offer: Defensive back Jordan Osborne (?) from The Woodlands (Houston, TX). The question marks are because the story says "Justin" but I think they meant "Jordan". GPA 3.7 and has an offer from Army. Vandy is sniffing around too. 6'0, 185.
Rivals recruiting deal

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
Added two new players: Jordan Marriott and Jon Heimler.
Also, I re-arranged the master post to make it a little easier to find prospects (behold the wonder that is alphabetizing).

He doesn't seem that accomplished as a football player but I like the fact he's a multi sport athlete, and a pretty good one at that. A good coaching staff can really turn those guys into productive players.

Normally I'd be bummed out but he's not any better than Paschall, who gives us 3 years, not 2. We should never let a local player of his caliber play somewhere else. Same with guys like Solum.
This new guy - I don't know anything about him - but Bohl is rarely if ever wrong and he's a big boy at 6' 4'' and 330 lbs! I'm thinkin' he's not an edge speed rusher.
Brian McNeil was from West Fargo, He was the other half of the back field tandem with Tyler Roehl

Well we should have the entire South/West Fargo team play for the Bison. They are obviously good.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
Apparently NDSU has visited an Illinois pro-style QB named Mark Tolzien from Fremd High School in Palatine, IL (NW Chicago). Er, at least they made it to his HS to get tape, not sure if they talked or not.
Rivals lists Boston College, Iowa, Wisconsin, and a bunch of Ivy League schools as having interest (Iowa and Wisconsin, for sure, are in touch quite a bit). His older brother plays for the Badgers.
I count five HS QBs that NDSU is looking at - of course, it's probable that not all of them are being recruited as QBs. Anyway, this is the first Illinois recruit I've heard in connection with NDSU but if they were there, they were probably in a lot of other places.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
Geez, WI, WI, WI. Is it just that we don't know about more of the MN and ND kids? Nothing against WI, we get a bunch of tremendous players from there but I'm surprised there aren't more listed from the twin cities. Maybe most of the info is coming from the WI recruiting sites?

I think you hit the nail on the head with your last sentence. Wissports just does such a great job covering recruiting, that's why your hearing all the info about Wisco recruits. I'm sure we'll have plenty of Minny kids and hopefully a ND kid or two on the roster come signing day.

Yep, wissports.net is great - nothing comes even close to them for Minnesota recruiting. I see more about NDSU recruiting on Houston and Illinois sites than on Minnesota ones (as far as I know, there are really only minnesotapreps.com and gopherhole).

I don't know if they are, but they might want to. I saw him against Minot earlier in the year, and he can flat out play.

any vids on him anywhere? i dont beleive many of us have heard of him

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
The Bison are stretching into new recruiting areas...
RB Montez Hatten 5'7 178 Anderson, South Carolina (Westside HS)
Hatten is Westside's all-time leading rusher with over 5000 yards rushing and 54 touchdowns in his career. He may be short in stature but runs very hard and has great field vision. Hits the hole fast and has good breakaway speed. Gaudy numbers against AAAA competition should earn him a serious look from mid-major programs looking for a strong prospect who deserves much more attention. Highly underrated prospect.

Wow! I can understand why a kid would choose Marshall over NDSU but it's cool being #2 on his list. I'm suprised we're recruiting that far south.I'm lovin' it!
KF: Name your top 5 list of schools currently.
MH: Marshall, North Dakota State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Charleston

Yeah, I bet NDSU is recruiting Nichols and Seth Wisthoff, for example, but I don't have a link that says so or they'd be on the radar.
Oh yeah, it wouldn't surprise me if NDSU was talking to Wentz - what I wonder is if they have been talking to Esley Thorton, the sophomore QB from Bismarck High.

I say they should wait another year just to see how Thorton pans out

They should talk to him as soon as the NCAA says we can. This kid flat out plays. He's been fun to watch since middle school. Started as a freshman for BHS. Before he graduates he'll be getting a lot of looks.

Re: 2008 Recruiting Radar
Bison coaches visited Millard West (Omaha Football factory, 10-2 last year) Quarterback Jesse VerVelde on Thursday. 1900 pass yards, 19 TD's, 700+ yards rushing and another 10 yards. 6'0 185. Very talented kid. That is a BIG school, and I am almost sure he was a three year starter. I think he was the first team superstate quarterback....in a decent football state.

There's a smaller school QB in Nebraska I kind of hope they talk to too. Transferred from North Carolina or something. Unfortunately that's all I can remember.

Another reported offer: Tim Sauer, OL, 6'8, 263, Rosemount, MN.
UNI offered too and Colorado just flew him out to visit. He plays basketball too.
If you can read the articles we've been linking to, I think you'll be impressed not only by what good athletes these guys are - it really sounds like NDSU is going after good, solid kids.

thanks tony for the info! sounds like he could put a lot of weight on him if he wanted to play on the O line...any possibility of DE seeing as he is an athlete?

I'm not 100% sure but I think he's related to Craig Sauer, who played for the Gophers and Vikings and is now the defensive coordinator of the FM Liberty football team. http://fargomoorheadliberty.com/coaches.html Hopefully he can persuade him to come here!
