Most people don't care about Ndsus Fcs opponents

What opponent could we face that would bring that kind of travelling crowd from other schools? Regional schools like Ndsu, uni, and the Undies.
And why would we want to help promote rival schools? Those schools already draw well
I'm OK with it the opponent's right and if we can draw 35k. But like I said in a previous post, look at the USD crowd in Sioux Falls
Matt Larson doesnt think the opponent is as important as the venue and the destination. Seriously does he really think that NDSU fans are so starved for a trip to the cities that they will flock there to watch NDSU play a tomato can in a baseball stadium?
I dont think we bring 35k. The second MN game where they said there was 30k? NO way. My bet is 10-15K It going to have to be one hell of an opponent just to draw 20-25k.

The other constant argument was only 20-25k went to the gopher game at TCF. If you are basing attendance on that game, that means the brand has not grown one bit after the TCF game, which I believe was in 2011. Since that game, 5 national championships, two game days, many games on ESPN (12 maybe), a number 2 overall draft pick. If you think after all that the brand is the same size as 2011, then that means there is no demand for 30k tickets in Fargo. That is made up as well. That means no need for expanded facilities, no need to consider playing FBS teams out of region, as the program and brand has peaked.
I tend to think its only the tip of the iceberg. The brand is bigger than five years and only starting to take advantage of places like Minneapolis, Phoenix, because the alumni association, teammakers, athletic department until recently has only tried to tap the market.
We are not at a point where we need to whore ourselves out for money and exposure at the expense of the local football fans who pay the bills. Were really getting close to being maxed out without raising prices. And what market? Do we have tickets to sell to them? If they think they can make more money on the game than a dome game and generate a shit load of donations off of 1 game... Maybe it's worth it.
If we really want to grow the brand... Try focusing on what we have. In the business world it's called low hanging fruit.
Take basketball for instance. We have a shiny new stadium with empty seats and a pretty good team with a growing tradition that is poised to do big things.
We have a wrestling program that's in the Frigging Big 12 with Iowa State coming to to town in a brand new arena. We have a ton of tradition with D2 National Championships. Plenty of opportunities there. Can't we sell that?
We have a women's basketball team that plays in front of crowds in the hundreds when at one point in time, it was a revenue sport that drew better than our current men's basketball team. We have a super talented young team with a huge freshman class.
How about actually promoting baseball? We have an amazing stadium and tiny crowds show up to see the Gophers for super cheap tickets. Can't we sell that?
How many people pay to watch softball? 50?
Track and Field ?
All these little improvements can equal a lot of money.
How much money will basketball generate if we sell out every single game and collect more teammakers?
How about boosting attendance for every sport. Losing less money on women's basketball, baseball, softball, and wrestling is just like making more money

I agree with this.
Re: NDSU looks at possible football game at Target Field
This reminds me of all the bitching about GameDay going downtown.
There's little to lose with trying this, and if successful it would bring a good payday much like the neutral site games so many other conferences are doing on a regular basis these days. It's really one of the only ways left to expand and expose the product to new fans. The Fargodome, Fargo, and North Dakota are about maxed out.
Have a little faith in the leadership, they've certainly earned it. They wouldn't even be discussing this if it didn't make some sense, and I doubt they'll just sign on to a deal that doesn't have good potential.

I won't blindly accept something without details. Game day was free for NDSU and didn't require a 7 hour round trip, hotels, etc... This game won't even be televised outside of the normal coverage and we'll be lucky to get the Startribune to cover it. And If way less than 20k show up and the stadium is at 50% capacity, it will look small time and could have no impact. And what is the break even point? What if we make less than we would at home? That money comes out of the athletic budget.
Now if we can draw 40k people I think it's a no brainer. But I am concerned people are way over estimating our fan bases desire to see a cup cake game. Would you be excited to drive 7 hours round trip and rent hotels to see Delaware State? People want to see GOOD GAMES!
Re: NDSU looks at possible football game at Target Field
Call it an experiment then. If it's unsuccessful, NDSU might lose a small amount of money and won't do it again. If getting Bison games on Twin City stations is not one your goals for NDSU, then what goals do you have and how do you propose accomplishing them?
That said, I wonder who would be willing to bet real American money that NDSU's fanbase won't come out in impressive style?

How does this game get us on Twin Cities stations?

I wouldn't bet against the NDSU fanbase. I live in Colorado and still manage to make 2-4 NDSU games a year. The toughest games to make are in Fargo due to the ticket demands and cost of travel. A game at Target Field would be easy and cheap.

Don't the Twins own one of them?
