True fucking story from Christmas in Arizona eh. Had a dude with a Purdue shirt on say hey nice Colts shirt to my son. You guys from Indiana? I said no we're just Carson wentz fans. He says back. Oh you're from Ohio? That was the end of that conversation. Carson really is setting the world on fire.

Will they know him in 60 year like Maris. When Mcquire broke his record Maris was on ESPN every day and he had been dead for years.
In your world when an athlete beats his wife and it trends on Twitter that makes him more popular...sad!

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
The Indianapolis Colts just basically said we'd rather not have a qb then have Carson wentz at qb. That's why he's trending bros.

In Carson’s defense, I am pulling for him to revive his career. He is an intelligent man, class valedictorian in his HS class at Century High is Bismarck. The reality of his NFL career at this point though is a little underwhelming.

I think most folks are. At least he got paid though!

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
I cheer for him too. Maybe it's not that he can't lead it's that the Colts felt he lead in the wrong direction. He took a stance at the beginning of the season by the looks of things on hardknocks a lot of teammates followed suit. Those decisions had a huge part of the team in quarantine for the end of season run. That's what the people at the Colts are looking at. And no we don't need to discuss the actual decision. If Carson and the Colts are so smart I'm sure they had a closed door meeting with a trusted medical professional about the decision and that decision is theirs alone to make. This is the results of the decision. Oh yeah but Carson doesn't get a fair rep. Blah blah blah that's exactly why we compare him to Roger Maris.

Good point Scottie. There are comparisons between Carson and Maris as far as the press coverage goes. Also how about 4 time WORLD champion saddle bronc rider Brad Gjermundson??

Sam, do some research.
The Major League Game of the week, Saturday afternoon, drew more people watching than an NFL game today. It was the only sporting item on tv. More people watch that one weekend, then ESPN has viewers has in a week. the game of the week was just that big.
Secondly trending doesn't mean the most people are looking at, retweeting or discussing. It means it is trending. You can go from 50 people on our tweet to 250 and make the list. So trending doesn't mean 2 million viewers. Plus when its a new story, carson getting waived, carson to washington, carson to the pro bowl. Each one of those can trend with the same group. It doesn't mean it is a new unique group causing the trend.
Also, haven't even touched upon the impact of the New York Daily influence they had.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
If twitter existed in 1961. How many times would have Roger and Mickey trended?
-
Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
There were only three networks that broadcasted sports at all back then. Even in the 1980s growing up without cable, I had to stay up late to watch the George Michael Sports Machine or halftime on Monday Night Football to get highlights from most NFL games.

It didn't exist. And that's kind of the entire point here. Doesn't matter what would have if it did.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
As far as Wentz. There's more of the same reports about him in Indy. From people who work with him every day.
It's time for Wentz to look in the mirror and figure what he needs to do to make it work. Or else he's looking at his last chance as a starter.

It's a stroll down memory lane when you mentioned the Saturday afternoon game of the week with Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese during the 50's and 60's; never forget Dizzy Dean talking about the Gas House Gang of the 1930s St. Louis Cardinals or Pee Wee Reese talking about playing with Jackie Robinson..........aw, memories !!!!

Curious reports you’re referencing? All I’ve seen is that he didn’t put the team on his back and win the last two games of the year single-handedly. Much different from the locker room mud slinging in Philly.

The story makes it look like they really didn't like him off the field and it wasn't as much his play as his quirkiness. The part about Wentz learning he was on shaky ground with couple months left in season and requesting to meet with irsay who didn't probably led to uom struggling the last 2 games, but it jeeds to be asked why its getting to that point.
And it's not just the vaccine they would have overlooked that like other organizations did with their qb who didn't get vaccinatwd.

I’m sure most people here would consider me a Wentz critic, I read the quotes in that link. Seems like a nothing burger to me. Not saying he isn’t a problem just that I don’t see anything substantive in those statements.

Re: What sort of thread have you made for us? A Wentz thread, if you can keep it.
Wonder how Wentz and Rivera are going to get along since Rivera is pretty adamant about players being vaccinated.

The number 1 overall pick in the 1995 MLB baseball draft!
Coached him in bantams. I’ve been coaching the game of hockey for nearly 40 years and to this day I’ve never coached a more intense player. He took practice like it was the seventh game of the Stanley Cup. Obviously that intensity paid off. He comes back and plays in our annual alumni game. Still as intense as he was when I coached him

What would you think would cause them to give up on Wentz after 1 year, considering everything they gave up for him, with no current direction for QB on a team that is considered entering their prime of contention? It makes zero sense. It wasn't the play on the field, and it certainly wasn't what happened the last 2 games.

George Michaels sports machine on Sunday Nights. This was Sportscenter before Sportscenter and when Sportscenter did highlights.

Wouldn't be shocked if this is his last year in the league.
NFL dropped their bullshit covid rules because they did nothing. It proves Carson making his own decision for him was the correct call.

Discussion on 2 pros and a cup of joe this morning. NFC QB's, Dak, Carson, Jalen Hurts and Jones for NYG and how Washington did a few years back with Alex Smith in charge. The DC Football team has a chance and is probably a good futures bet to win the division.

If I recall. Baseball game of the week was on NBC on Saturday and then later ABC added Monday Night Baseball since football had done so well.
You had to read the paper to get boxscores , and the sporting news was where you went for stats and team reviews.

The George Michael Sports Machine was awesome! I can’t recall ever seeing it or hearing anything about it after 1993 or so, but apparently it kept going until 2007.

When Carson plays good, he is better than every QB in NFL. However you cant fix a broken man. He should work on his leadership skills.

As for the Colts, the issues with Wentz stretched back to before the season began, one source said, and over the course of the year, some grew frustrated at what they deemed a lack of leadership, a resistance to hard coaching and a reckless style of play, which had a role in several close losses this year.
What was missing, some within the team believe, was the type of direction the Colts got from the quarterback position in recent years, namely with Andrew Luck, Philip Rivers and even Jacoby Brissett, who despite struggling late in the 2019 season remained a deeply respected voice within the locker room.
In other words, with a QB in place besides Wentz, some believe, the gutting late-season collapse the Colts suffered would have never happened.

In the NFL, defenses will figure you out eventually. How many new QB's show up, have an great season and then struggle when the defenses catch up to them. To be on top for a long time, you need to adapt. Not sure if this is what is happening to Wentz or not...

The only speculative BS is every person in this thread who's an outsider on the situation saying all these NFL minds are wrong about Wentz. You can disagree all you want with the NFL rap sheet on Wentz, and there's most likely some fabrication to it, but they are made by NFL minds who are a lot more in the know than anyone Bison fan in this thread.
