I guess I wouldn’t call it a 'decline'. More like a reality. Let’s look at the TV ratings of the FCS playoffs this year (when the time comes) and compare those to previous years, like 2013. That would be telling. I would suggest that the trends are more reflective of changes in lifestyle as opposed to a loss of interest in Bison FB. The impression I get from watching ESPN is that the Bison brand itself is doing fine nationally.
And I'd say NDSU is doing a pretty good job of dealing with it compared to the majority of the G5

The SMU Memphis game did set a prime time low though so that's great. That's where we wanna be they tell me.
So a primetime game on ABC with just shy of 3 million viewers isn't something to aspire to? Again, I'm not sold on FBS and believe the decision is a difficult one with lots of variables and potential pitfalls but to insinuate that the ratings (1.8 rating & 2.95 million viewers) from SMU and Memphis on primetime ABC is evidence that we shouldn't make the move to FBS is completely ignorant.

It's not all that ignorant considering Sam, you and I all had to use google to remember the game even existed.

3 NYD bowl games in the history of the conference all from UCF. Good luck with that chief. GTFO of here and find an FBS team if you don't like it. Just stop running your mouth with worthless shit to get attention.
Anything before xmas is blatantly worthless, which is the likely result.

I don’t think 25,000 NDSU people go. There’s no way 5,000 people went to Frisco and sat around during the game. Stop using numbers. You’re just making yourself look silly.

I guess I don’t care I’m not looking for friends. All I’m asking is for some common sense FBS options which is unrealistic because it doesn’t exist. But if we yell and yell and yell about it maybe it’ll happen.

Im sure youve showed up uninvited to things. That's what the football team needs to do. Say its Indiana vs Northwestern in Indiana. Beat northwestern to the locker rooms and trot onto the field in place of them. Whats indiana going to do? Beat NDSU? Call for arrests? Reschedule?
Nah theyd play ndsu then and there.

Oh c'mon now, we are all looking for friends. You seem like a cool guy that likes his Bison and annual titles. I'm more of a .500 guy, celebrate my fewer wins with twice the alcohol....

Plenty of .500 FBS schools available for you then. Problem solved. Bohl and klieman are about right what you’re looking for.

yes there are some trends but none of that changes the fact the football isn't competitive... the only thing that changes that is Bison move up or we start playing with 10 guys on the field..
for all the FCS forevers tell me how you plan to change that? and we always pull our stars and down the ball to end the game or the stats would look much much worse....

What is going to change is the current Bison run is not going to last forever. I find the tag "FCS forevers" cute. Who has taken that position?

I'm not sure if I'm an "FCS Forever" or not but I'll take a crack at it:
1) Finish fundraising for and build the IPF
2) Raise our game on men's basketball funding to at least SDSU's level if not higher
3) Start the ball rolling with city leaders, donors, and government officials on the massive capital project it would be to give the Fargodome a major renovation or rebuild it to accommodate around 25-30K seats
Or if you prefer the short version: SEARCH FOR MORE MONEY! (copyright Spaceballs)

Maybe. It'll be a once in a lifetime experience forgotten by everyone not NDSU within 5 years. So, obviously worthwhile.

I think that the decline of live sports and the decline in energy around Bison football are not one in the same. They may be related in some regards but I think my concern focuses on the conversations that are happening here, at tailgating and at the watch parties. These are fans who are currently devoting their time and money to the program. A higher percentage of those fans are starting to question whether or not it is worth their investment of time and money to go to the games. I agree with many that I'm not sure that FBS reverses that or if it does that the costs far outweigh the benefits. What can we do to continue to grow? As much as I'm not sold on FBS, FCS as it is currently made up doesn't seem to have much room for our program to grow. Most of the other schools in FCS are here so they can invest in basketball and contain football costs. We are an outlier.

This seems like a reasonable plan and I would guess that these types of conversations/plans are being discussed by the NDSU leadership. However, I think much of the frustration comes from no public acknowledgement of any kind from said leadership. Can they talk about all the details? No. Can they share the long term vision? Absolutely yes.

I enjoy winning so I have no problem with it. Rumor has it that the players enjoy winning too. What I hear you saying is that you need the Bison to lose more for your interest to be maintained. If that’s the case then I’m afraid I question the validity of your interest. But I’m guessing you already knew that …

Nailed it....time 2 roll out a campaign and coach entz is the perfect person to lead the charge starting with the on field pregame semi-final interview on ESPN
ESPN lady: blah blah blah blah blah
Entz:. Blah blah
ESPN: thank u coach
Entz: I just got a message for the AAC football conference, "Mr. Aresco, tear DOWN this WALL!!!!"

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
I’m Pro FBS yes that is correct but not a “FBS at any cost now” person. I think it’s more geography than anything. For the MAC I think it’s probably got a hint of “NDSU is going to make us all look like punks” thing going on. That is very blunt but I do think it’s there from a source with a MAC institution. Again, MAC would be a stepping stone if possible. Too small for B1G along with academics a big no go. Big 12 is too big also and basketball program is no where near ready for anything like that. MWC is mostly about geography in my eyes even though they have Hawaii as a affiliate member. I do truly believe that if an invite ever happened NDSU would jump on it and make it work very well.
I’m not concerned about the Bowl games and think that some could be fun and getting to play bigger schools would be awesome.
I do like that short plan of getting the IPF up and done. Ramping up the both basketball programs. My hope is that writhing the next 5 years we do hear something regarding this whole topic from the administration.
Independence is not a good option at all!
UND sucks balls!!!

The 'fatigue' that you all like to talk about is a NATION-WIDE phenomenon. It’s not just the Fargo Dome. In fact, I’d say the FD is pretty damn full compared to some of these venues, FCS or G5 or even P5 (talking about Pitt game last week).
It has to do with QLED TVs, less disposable income, the desire to party at home in your living room, a better view of the game, the ability to watch FB naked, whatever ...
So why do you all feel so compelled to make it a Bison problem when it’s much bigger than that?
Frisco is packed compared to most of these bowl games. And now it’s on ABC. These are just facts.
Until I read this it had never occurred to me that I or anyone else for that matter would ever watch football naked. I expect it is going to take some time to eliminate this imagery from my head. Perhaps psychotherapy as well. Thanks for that. /purple.

No I need to feel like winning was an accomplishment and like the other team even has a chance or can keep it within 20 so all the exciting players aren't sleeping on the bench one series into the 3rd qtr.. but how much beating up on pud schools is enough for you? you really are going to go around bragging when we win 11 of 12? seriously what's the cutoff for you?

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
our last 6 playoff games in the dome - and we are only getting better.. but keep telling us how FCS playoffs are so exciting.. they are basically a cash grab like preseason NFL games.. and we sat starters and killed the clock in every one of them or would be 21 points more every game.
38-3
42-10
55-13
52-10
35-13
44-21

Why do YOU have feel like its an accomplishment???? You arent playing the game. The players are what matter. And the last time I saw them play they were pretty jacked. My bet is they will be be jacked this weekend as well.

It’s not about the players for him, it’s about HIM!! NDSU football makes HIM feel better about himself—like the “do one incredible thing in life” Lakes referenced ... yet Lakes likes to suggest he has kids and does stuff with them. Apparently they pale in comparison to NDSU football going FBS.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Question for the FBS NOW! crowd? How much more money are you will to donate every year? This would be above what you currently give. I want hard figures and something you will actually give. I would think every person who wants this so badly would be willing to donate considerably more every year. So, $3,000 more, $5,000 more? Realistically, that's what it's going to take and if you aren't will to pay, don't expect any one else to either. We are talking needing millions more every year and that's without even considering a stadium.
So OK, how much guys? Time to put your money where your mouth is.

What seems to get lost among some of the FBS at any cost now people is the accomplishment that is happening now. This is a record setting ride that will not last forever and should be enjoyed while it does. "Winning too much" is just a participation trophy spin off.
