Why would a conference take into account the quality of the football team - at a single point in time - when deciding to extend an invite?
Also please explain why an FBS conference should take us right now....I don't see how we as a university are really all that appealing to the MAC or Mountain West, even if they are considering expanding.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Why do people think level of play corresponds to conference invite? I mean seriously why are people still posting about that?
It is a business. No conference commissioner has worked their whole life to get where they are, just to invite a school based on “golly gee wouldn’t it be fun to play the Bison?”. Conference commissioners and the schools they serve are only about getting a return on investment.
These are the same type of posters who thought Bohl and Klieman wore NDSU nut huggers to bed and would never leave because they loved the school so much. College athletics, and especially big boy athletics are a business. End of story.

NDSU would give a shot in the arm to MWC and MAC on Day 1. we actually fill our stadium and would give some exposure to them.
A Football only Program that is successful,
A Land Grant School.
A University that would actually CHERISH being there instead of Akron or San Jose State. which neither fanbases even exist

We currently fill the stadium. Doesn't mean we will. Reality is 3+ losses will occur more than 0 or 1 and come late October and November games, the GAF level for the fanbase and games that don't mean shit will go away for hundreds of different reasons.

NDSU is in the 3rd Tier. I was told over and over again by Gene Taylor Dean and Stony Brook AD in the media that "NDSU will always want to remain in the 2nd division of football"
You can be adamantly pro FCS (and honestly my favorite option is for the FCS to raise their talent and prestige and STAY instead of jumping), but You are freaking delusional if you think we are in the 2nd tier. The G5 has no shot at the "national title" which means they are inherently at a different. And we are inherently at a different level than the G5.
If you cant agree to this basic fact, than you dont belong in the conversation- at all. You either have to prove that the G5 and the P5 are exactly the same (which is hilarious since they are so vastly different that they have different names, lol), or prove that the FCS is exactly the same as G5.
We aint 2nd tier guys. Talent wise, we are arguably tier 1. but we are tier 3. Tier 3 isnt necessarily bad- but we are certainly in the 3rd tier.[/QUOTE]
Just because we’ve won a few games against fbs schools doesn’t make us tier 1. That’s just as delusional thinking.

That wasn’t mind blowing. People were talking NDSU going DI before I even got on campus in the Fall of 1995.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
In my current role as internet manager where I work I talk with vendors from around the country. So far this month alone I've talked to people from NY, L.A., Georgia, Kentucky, Florida, Washington and New Mexico on separate calls. Each of them asked the formalities "I see you are in Moorhead, how long have you lived there" and when I tell them "I actually live in West Fargo, ND but work in Moorhead" they all say something to the effect of "Fargo, ND? Home of NDSU/Bison football. Man you guys have been dominant! Going to win it all again this year?"
Now I'm not sure if that is an endorsement for us to move up as we have a national following/awareness or a testament to how well our current situation is going and how well our brand is growing under our current model and that we should keep doing what we've been doing.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
This may have been brought up already but in my opinion the scheduling of Butler at Target Field was mainly for bean counting as a prerequisite to possibly moving up in the future. It was interesting that we scheduled a school with a small fan base out of the region. If it was UND or SDSU they would have brought in a more fans and threw off the numbers a bit. That game was on the schedule for a few years so if I am correct the NDSU leadership is doing their due diligence and will make decision one way or another based on this and a host of other factors.

Great point. Can't believe I didn't consider that. Actually the beauty of it is your dumbass doesn'tn get to decide what fans want to do even though you've been yelling it out loud for 5 years.
Yeah and those true fans aren't going to the Motor City Bowl either.

Correct. Because moving up to a lower level FBS conference will diminish our brand. But the attention whores don't see that. They'd love that 10 PM Central Time game on ESPN2 instead.

Google is awesome. And also there's 4 teams no one gives a shit about besides their own fans. So tell me again what the benefit is?
And besides the fact that you've been attention whoring the mountain west since childbirth.

staying at fcs is only way to diminish the brand..there is nothing left to accomplish in the FCS. Diminishing attendance and enthusiasm every year we stay... these other teams are completely inferior..
JMU is the only current FCS team that can even argue they are competitive with us the last decade.. and dont give me 2-12 this decade SDSU....

I think it was simply a way to get a little paycheck from Target Field since we didn't have any FBS money games.
-
Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Always love how the B1G Minnesota Gophers are degraded by Bison Fans and now we're pumping the tires of the likes of Memphis and SMU.
UCF or SMU probably end up in the Frisco Bowl in front of a half empty stadium in the middle of a week full of garbage bowls. Wonder who's getting the bigger name brand on that one. Doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure that one out.

No. Moving up to the middle tier of a man period will diminish the brand. I know it's hard for you blowhards to figure that out.

The main benefit is playing football games against actual football teams... would be nice to go to a game and watch stars like Trey and Jabril play more than 2 qtrs... I got some Vikings preseason tickets every year ill sell since you love meaningless football with the stars on the bench so much.

Just respond with the same account it’s easier. The Vikings are where they belong. Just like NDSU.

more like a 1 game playoff then a soccer field at 11am in the cold. Orlando, Tampa, Alabama seems warmer
AAC
American Athletic Bowl Ties, Affiliations
Highest-ranked champion from the AAC, C-USA, MAC, MW & Sun Belt will play in a New Year’s Six bowl.
The American Athletic Conference doesn’t have a true pecking order. The bowl matchups are based on best possible games and geography.
- NEW YEARS DAY BOWL vs P5
– Armed Forces Bowl (TX) vs. Big 12
– Birmingham Bowl (AL) vs. SEC
– Cheribundi Tart Cherry Bowl (detroit) vs. Conference USA
– Cure Bowl (orlando) vs. Sun Belt
– Frisco Bowl vs. At-Large
– Gasparillia Bowl (tampa) vs. Conference USA
– Military Bowl (DC) vs. ACC

Less than 5k fans. Enjoy your front row pump it up cartwheel across the 50z. In the grand scheme of things nobody gives a rats ass about those bowls either.

I’m not against moving up but in the grand scheme of things I don’t see it as that big of a benefit. The fact one G5 is in a New Years bowls just shows that G5 is P5’s bitch.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
I didn't grow up with a connection to NDSU. No family members who were alums. Grew up in eastern SD. Moved to the twin cities after graduation. Without the move to D1 and the success and atmosphere that was created because of it I wouldn't have been drawn back into the program. This run has been great. It has allowed me to reconnect with friends. It has allowed me to introduce my kids to the campus and school.
The atmosphere in the Fargodome and the buzz around the program has definitely taken a step back over the past few seasons. That in no way is a vote for an FBS move. But I do think that the Athletic Department and the University Leadership need to find ways that infuse new energy into the program and make gamedays an event that people want to attend.
The current atmosphere, or lack thereof, is not going to draw similar people in and continue to sustain and grow the passionate fanbase that we are known for. Status quo is not sufficient. In my humble opinion, the frustrations come from really no publicly stated plan or even consistent evidence of changes attempting to infuse new energy into the gameday experience. I believe Target Field was an attempt but what's next?
Lakes may not be on everyone here's christmas card mailing list but his message has some validity to it. He isn't capable of using nuance to articulate his point which turns some off but he isn't wrong.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Anyone watch MACtion last night? I did. Did you take a look at the crowd?
The 'fatigue' that you all like to talk about is a NATION-WIDE phenomenon. It’s not just the Fargo Dome. In fact, I’d say the FD is pretty damn full compared to some of these venues, FCS or G5 or even P5 (talking about Pitt game last week).
It has to do with QLED TVs, less disposable income, the desire to party at home in your living room, a better view of the game, the ability to watch FB naked, whatever ...
So why do you all feel so compelled to make it a Bison problem when it’s much bigger than that?
Frisco is packed compared to most of these bowl games. And now it’s on ABC. These are just facts.

So you are saying that we could play essentially a meaningless regular season in hopes of going to a meaningless bowl game against a Conf-USA opponent in.....Detroit? Why didn't you mention this sooner!!!!!!!!!

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
I'll list this years Exciting Events.
1) The youth of the 2019 football team.
2) The new coaching staff for the 2019 football team.
3) Butler Game at Target Field.
4) The prospect of the regular MVFC gauntlet.
5) All green Code Green football game.
6) Dakota Marker game and being part (albeit a smaller part) of College Game Day for a third time.
7) Realizing that we can and probably will go undefeated for the 2019 season.
8) Snorty (senior day).
9) Yellow on White on Yellow with Snorty.
10) What will the playoffs be like is probably the next event. For gods sake I hope that actual football discussion will take front stage again. My worry is that it won't because there are an awful lot of bad teams coming into this years playoff picture. JMU, and Montana are the only bright spots.
11) Seasons over regardless of how it ends we discuss the OREGON DUCKS.
(The second half of that list is about stickers and jerseys. There isn't a lot of discussion involving our current game schedule other than how bad the crowds have been at the dome and its been getting worse for 2 years.) Boy 5 years ago was really fun! Those were good times.

Exactly. But they still feel they need to yell about it.
The SMU Memphis game did set a prime time low though so that's great. That's where we wanna be they tell me.

You are correct, NDSU is not alone. Does that matter? It's still affecting the return on investment for the University? Are you suggesting that the decline is inevitable? I guess I don't agree. I think that more can and should be done. QLED TV's, streaming services, numerous other options to spend your/our time all existed in 2011, 2012, 2013 etc. This is a recent change and it's not just at the Fargodome but all aspects surrounding the games and program. I have attended watch parties in the Twin Cities for every championship game except for one. The attendance, engagement and excitement at the watch parties is declining somewhat as well. What is the next steps to continue to build on the momentum over the past decade and encourage people to connect with the program. There have been a lot of people hopping on the bandwagon over the past decade. That is awesome and exactly what sports are intended to do for the university. How does NDSU convert those recent fans from "bandwagon" to more consistent fans and potentially donors? If they do nothing, I'm not sure they do and I think they lose interest and drift away. In my opinion that's a missed opportunity.
Again, not beating the drum for an FBS move just looking for some acknowledgement that NDSU is trying to address it. I can acknowledge that Target Field seems to be an attempt to connect with a wider audience. Outside of that I'm not sure new stickers on the helmets and code green uniforms are going to do the trick.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
This is to the FBS at any cost and we need to go it now crowd.
After all the hot air that you've expelled why aren't we FBS now????
Why aren't these conferences lining up to take ndsu to the dance?
Everyone in the ncaa football world k owns who we are.
Why no invites?
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Ndsu cant move up without a home. Where are the invites???????
