Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
I LIVE HERE NOW and very few know who they are. If they do, they shrug them off. This isn't BS, it's fact. Nice try attempting to mitigate my factual response. If you lived in the south as you claim, you would know this. You think the Dawgs, Tigers, and Tide care? They just know not to schedule them and so therefore the south does not respect FCS, PERIOD. They play teams like Citadel and lump us into the same bucket. Don't believe me, get on the horn with Atlanta sports talk radio and have them set up a segment. I'll even set it up. I have connections and would LOVE to hear you embarass yourself with your two-bit opinion on what I know to be fact.

Dawgs, Tigers, and Tide refuse to schedule NDSU, but will schedule other FCS programs? I think that shows respect towards NDSU, not a lack thereof.

Nobody is saying that NDSU is going to take over being the favorite over the local boys . Fact is they know who NDSU is. I lived in AR for over 20 years. Traveled all over the south doing ASA 3D archery shoots and sport shows . Plus I spend a month every year in TX. Have had great conversations with those that know football.

Don’t bother even arguing to this guy, he is either Lakes, related to Lakes, or has the same mental health issues/personality disorders as Lakes.

Could you please provide the litany of positives, cuz I’m not seeing them other than increased/better competition, possibly.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Put on your NDSU apparel, travel the country , sit in an airport, go to a restaurant. Everywhere I go, literally, people know NDSU because of our football program. If you know college football in this country, you know NDSU. I had someone approach me in a car rental place in Florence, Italy because I was wearing my NDSU gear. National exposure, yeah we already got that.

Possibly? That would be crazy if it wasn't, because the competition and quality of the games right now are absolutely terrible. The blowouts and winning are fun, but to someone who actually loves watching the game of football, the football games are garbage and boring as hell. The conference has 4 top 10 teams, and these teams can't even make a football game out of it when they play NDSU? What a joke.
If NDSU ever moved up and was able to get into one of the regional conferences like MWC or MAC, I think they would be in prime position to be nationally relevant. Probably not as often, but they would still have good teams here and there, and if they get a season where they are really strong, they could get ranked somewhere by the middle of the year and only play 1, 2, or maybe 3 games against competition that would actually be formidable. They would still have the garbage teams they could blow out that so many of the fanbases like.
Sure their would be down years. But their would be up years too. I think that would be something to aim for. At some point our run is going to end and we're going to have down years again in FCS, and then what does this program/fanbase got?

I’m a bit confused by your post, but I’ll respond as well as I can.
First, it appears you are comparing us in FCS form and not FBS, as I we’d have more scholarships and even better players than we have now, AND we would, right now, compete and likely beat most if not all of the teams in the conferences you mention.
To your reference to down years coming in FCS: Doesn’t that mean we actually will have the competitive games for those who “love[] watching the game of college football” just as you otherwise seem to desire?
The balance of your post is just too difficult to respond to with all the contradictions and assumptions.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
us Pro-FBS fans have no gotten Bison 1660 , KFAN MPLS, Kfan Fargo and Inforum and KVRR sports people to discuss NDSU to FBS. its literally all over right now.
the AAC conference thread, the Bison Fatique thread. heck Trey Lance thread.
Let's all stop being scared and do something 1 time in our lifetimes that will be incredible!!! NDSU to the FBS could be bigger than anything you could ever imagine. same discussions as 2002 and 2003 are happening everywhere.
you naysayers then need to step aside once again and be proved wrong
NDSU CAN SUCCEED AT FBS.
Appy St, Kansas State, Wyoming all ranked in top 25 this year....You know dam well NDSU could be too

I do this a lot too. And yes, the NDSU gear does get recognized, and yes, mainly for the football team.
The only downside of wearing NDSU gear is running into those dang pilots from UND who want to bring up their hockey team.

I'm talking specifically about the product on the football field. It isn't rocket science. I'm also talking specifically the play on the field. FCS right now, especially in comparison to NDSU, is not good football. These teams NDSU are playing, some of these teams even "allegedly" top 10 FCS teams, are sloppy, unorganized, undisciplined, poorly coached, and just not flat out good enough to make plays against NDSU. To a football purists, it's bad football to watch. NDSU forces them to play like that a lot of the times, but that's my point exactly, the quality of FCS is just really poor football.

I just lol at “purists” references.
That said, can I correctly assume you and Lakes and other complainers and FBS peeps will put your money where your mouths are? You know, like donate $5K right now—as in tonight? I just received yet another email from Matt Larsen asking me to contribute even more. I can forward it to you if you want. Let me know. I’m sure he/NDSU don’t discriminate where $$ come from.
And the lack of alleged competition is our fault? How was the blowout game against SDSU?
I don’t feel as tho the FCS is any different than FBS, DII, DIII (otherwise known as Lakes’s ceiling of athleticism), NAIA, etc. in terms of who can win it all and the have-nots. It’s fairly systemic on all levels really.
And, as for football “purists”: I watched two ND State Champ games last weekend and enjoyed the hell out of the games, but I’m not a self-proclaimed “purist”.

Fact is every level and every conference have their upper half and bottom half. Moving will just be a change of geography and new teams to talk about.

I'm assuming you're glued to the Eastern Michigan/Northern Illinois and Ohio/Bowling Green games that are on ESPN2 and ESPNU now then?
As a "purist" you must see a different game than I do because I don't see those games as any high caliber football than MVFC football.

Nailed it. If we are gonna actually look for better and sustained competition, we would have to involve ourselves, somehow, in an established FBS conference, which would take huge $$.
Meanwhile, most of the FBS proponents here are discussing the quality of food at local food establishments that cost $$ that they choose to spend at those rather than donate to NDSU athletics.
See where I’m going?
If not, think—>It’s all about “Me”!!

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
ill make it so simple that even Cassidy and his Class 1A mind can understand.
Power 5
Group of 5
FCS
D2
D3
NDSU is in the 3rd Tier. I was told over and over again by Gene Taylor Dean and Stony Brook AD in the media that "NDSU will always want to remain in the 2nd division of football"
WELLL... WE'RE WAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!
in the AAC, UCF was ranked #5 2 years ago, SMU #15 this year Memphis #22 Houston was Top 10 couple years ago. NDSU can be like them. Heck Appy St is ranked in top 25
and NDSU's 2 systems at Kansas St and Wyoming have been ranked in top 25 this year.
WE BELONG!!! play that song in your head.

Alot more now that I am home with kids, but even after NDSU games, downtown fargo, the bars have ESPN and ESPN 2 games on and we watched them.
would you watch NAIA if NDSU was in it? that's about the same question youre asking. we would all elevate our football viewing to FBS when NDSU moves up.
the momentum is happening, so you might as well get on board.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Too bad the other teams in the MVFC have not been able to pick up the pace and compete with NDSU. When we came into that conference we had to grow up and get up to speed. Since then the other teams have drifted down hill except for SDSU primarily. It has created a quandry for the Bison now on "what to do".
Big 12 is too much of jump given the size of our stadium, would they even take us in? MAC is not as competitive as what we want IMO. MWC is a lot more travel costs and then you have Boise St. and WYO then... good?
How about a new FBS conference creation with NDSU, SDSU, UND, USD, UNI, N. Ill., and lets see.... one or two more.... Toledo and ???
Would the NCAA support this? How about sponsors and TV contracts? Not a chance I suppose...

Can't move up a whole conference.
I still don't know why a talk of a new stadium hasn't be bantied about more .
On Campus, Owned by NDSU, All Revenue goes to NDSU.
4 Corporations, $50 million each (over 25 years ) They each get their own corner concourse of the stadium for marketing
NDSU raises $75 million.
$275 Million 42,000 seat Semi Enclosed 2 deck stadium keeps the wind out. NDSU can sell beer there, Have Concerts, NDSU Departments could utilize it.
NDSU engineering/architecture students could be apart of it. It would give you a valid reason to raise Student Fee's.
-
Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
I always thought of the MAC as a possible stepping stone. Get in there and dominate from day one for 4 years, get some more rep with the P5 games that we win, maybe get ranked a couple times and hope that only then the Big XII is an actual option. From there I’ve got nothing. Otherwise I guess I can just watch the games and drink like normal. Maybe one of you a holes wins the lottery and decides to donate a couple million for the cause and help boost the prestige of the academics at NDSU.

I believe starting a new FBS conference would be our only real chance, and it would take some schools getting together to create a proposal for the new conference. Maybe get some additional years to meet attendance, scholarship, etc. requirements. I would suggest adding the best of the Big Sky schools, Montana, Montana State and others too. Just not right that schools in the northern tier can never move up due to lack of nearby FBS conferences. I suggested this before, but did not hear much for comments either way.
