THANK U. enclosed outdoor. you keep wind out, like Target field you line the mezzanines with overhead heaters
plus remember. usually only 1 or 2 home games in November in FBS

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Would have to be enclosed though.

Filling a 50,000 seat stadium isn’t happening.

Agreed. Though we wouldn't have games there after mid November so while definitely a factor, may not be the de facto decision. However, to get the community behind it it wrought need to be a joint effort with city again most likely. The best way for that is to have a year round money making venue. IOW an indoor stadium.

For those who are interested, Google search for Mosaic Stadium, Regina:

Not enclosed, but covered enough to keep a lot of that cold, ND wind out. 33,350 seems about right capacity for NDSU

Here it is with it completely closed. MOSAIC stadium was first designed to be enclosed.

Hence it needing to be completely enclosed like it’s original plans. With the price tag when built at $278mill I’m not sure what that would be now a days and closing all the gaps to elements. Would $325 mill be ballpark? Idk
After looking, the project started in 2014 so not that long ago.
-
Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Build it open first with a fundraising effort to enclose it in the future? Might work. A few cold outdoor seasons might entice me to donate a bit more.

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not enclosing a football stadium in this day and age would be idiotic and put us in the SDSU league of poor planning..

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
An outdoor stadium in Fargo would be a disaster. Late season games would never sell out. We have also been spoiled with a huge number of home games due to the number 1 or 2 seed for the play-off for the past years which gives us almost always 2 or 3 additional home games. These would be gone with a move up.
-
Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Or on second thought, let’s keep it open then some more season tickets would come available and most people would be happy. Immediately followed by closing it off so I’m nice and comfy! :praying:

Not sure if anyone has been to a game at Allianz Field in St Paul but the safe standing or wonderwall section on the south “end zone” is an incredible fan experience. Basically 2900 people put into what feels like half a standard football end zone. Anyway after seeing that setup it seems like the Fargodome footprint to get to +25k isn’t really the problem but the 1990 layout with a small concourse.
If the city is going to put a $50m type renovation plan couldn’t they just blowout the west concourse to develop a more traditional bowl on that side and go double wonderwall safe standing in the lower end zones. Need to make the expansion of the concourse big enough to hold the excess headcount. But it doesn’t seem like the foot print is the issue

Also add beer to the safe standing sections.

More than likely, it would entice fans to stay home, and have less than 3000 fans for mid December football.
-
Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Look at the people filling seats now. There will be far fewer kids and people over 50 when the temp drops below 45 degrees.

I can't believe people who have enjoyed the comforts of the FFD for so many years (especially in November and December) would even advocate an outdoor facility. Those folks make me wonder if they're not brain frost bit Packer fans.

I think most avocating for an outdoor stadium are Viking fans.

Most BV'ers are way too young to remember Metropolitan Stadium. Those of us who are old enough aren't singing this hymn.

Would there be any December football in Fargo if the Bison move up?

FBS teams have a 12 game schedule; so they certainly are playing the last week of November (which is close enough for me). If there's a conference championship game involved......yes, they are playing in December. Anytime in December has the potential to be damn cold.
-
Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
No way in hell we get an outdoor stadium.
Coldstone creamery would launch a scorched Earth campaign to stop it.
-
Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Don't have to play in December to have Temps in the 20s and 40 mph wind gust. Shoot that was weeks ago already.

And it's happened before. The Blizzard bowl of 1986 was played with three more regular season games to follow. I still remember my friend's dad telling us we were crazy for going when I showed up to their house. Then he tossed the keys to the Suburban and said "don't drive your mom's car to the game."

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
a semi enclosed stadium stops 90% of the wind for the fans and with coils in the grass/turf and heaters all over. itll be cozy as hell into November.
FBS last home games are Nov 17 and 24th

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Couldn't we just stick $150 million in the dome and make it work? Still a big chunk of money but people are making this harder than it needs to be and this is absolutely something the school should be looking at. The dome is starting to show its age anyway.....SF, Omaha and Mpls have facilities that destroy it. The city also needs to invest in it.

I still can't believe I stayed for that entire game. It was fun but it was sure cold and I don't think I'd want to do that again.

Greenbay has had a heated field for years and it hasnt done squat to make the stadium warmer. There is nothing cozy about an open air stadium in the winter.
So you can quit beating that dead horse.

Re: NDSU American Athletic Conference?
I think $330 mill (I know it’s a little bit of money) would do it. Have it built and while the construction is being done you ride out the Fargo Dome till it’s complete. The next question is where do you build it?
Final product will be about 30-33k with expansion option to 38-40k. Beer sales will be available.

NDSU American Athletic Conference?
Does anyone honestly think moving to a G5 will bring in 10k-15k more per game? And be able to sustain that attendance without hosting playoff games or winning national championships? All while the sport of football is in decline.

YES, with $25 seats in upper deck, built on campus with beer readily available. of course NDSU would get 35,000-40,000 on a regular basis in a FBS conference.
there's 160,000 people in the Fargo/Moorhead area, that's only 1/4th of the pop in fargo... not to mention all the Western Nodakers/Bismarck, Minnesota, etc.
Just gotta advertise it correctly

The population of the
Fargo/Moorhead metro is estimated at 229,000 people as of October 29, 2019.

The better question is can we maintain 15-18k fans to watch them destroy worse and worse competition for the next 10 years? I guess the season ticket holders will always buy that many but the Bison went from a $75-100 for any ticket to any game on the secondary market to people who cant give them away on Facebook.. Other than UND and maybe SDSU the competition adds nothing and sells 0 additional tickets.. the first 2 playoff games will sell really poorly because we all know they will be in the semi- so they are basically exhibition or preseason games... they matter 0 for NDSU winning a title.

Easy Smedley a person asked a question. I answered.
FYI you dont HAVE to have something to talk about especially when the subject has been beaten to death like a junk yard dog. Same questions, same answers same person starting the same thread over and over and over again.
Why would I want to go to another teams forum? Why should I care that they dont talk smack? Is that some type of important measuring stick??:biggrin:
