Wanna be the next Boise? They haven't been relevant since 2004 and they just went to the Hawaii Bowl (big time??), played a PAC12 school, and got effin smoked....

The scholarships are a TINY part of the funding needed. Every sport would require significant increases in coaches salaries. Football in the MWC is one example. Wyoming is nowhere near the top of that conference and yet they completely blow our budget out of the water.
Doubling our Athletic budget might allow us to compete. Not dominate.
Boise State? The Metro area there is over 600,000 people. I watched them get smoked by Oregon State last night. Hmmmm. I think there was a time Boise mattered. Not so much now.

IMHO, its pointless to move up until there is a real playoff system like FCS.

I would love to be the next Boise. Every game they played this year was on national TV....yep they are clearly not relevant. It amazes me how posts on both sides of this issues on this site can border on crazy.
Of course we aren't going to be the next Boise until we get the stadium issue fixed. When somebody figures out a plan for that then we can really have a debate about this topic.

Yes I remember when they beat OU, in 2004...that's why i said they haven't been relevant since then.
My point is this, the pro FBS crowd commonly refers to trying to get to Boise status when in reality their Cinderella story from the fiesta bowl is basically all they have done in the last 15 years. Now they are playing in no name bowls and getting beat up by teams in the power conferences who have a losing record in conference play.
I will take national championships any day over that bs

I guess the debate turns would you rather be subpar in a lower tier conference just to say you're fbs or continue to dominate in the fcs and gain national attention just by being that good.

Does anyone realize that Boise is about 35% bigger than NDSU? in a metropolitan area about 4 times as large as Fargo?
There are many many more reasons why NDSU cannot be Boise.

If Boise beats Colin Kaepernick and Nevada a few years ago they might have been in the title game. Boise is the wrong example to be using against the pro FBS people, plus their record vs power conference teams is very good.

The MWC is a mid-tier football conference in the FBS and an elite basketball conference. It is where NDSU athletics belongs.
With that said, building a 30k seat indoor stadium within the next 10 years might very well be more likely then getting in an MWC invite. Getting an actual invite from the MWC is the biggest issue the FBS dreamers have. Talking about the MAC or Sun Belt is more likely and then we really get into the debate you are talking about.

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
And if GSU stuffs Brock on 4th and goal all this rambling wouldn't even be happening...
The mwc, Mac, or whatever other low tier conference is not going to get ndsu more recognition. Beating fbs teams that everyone dubs superior, winning national championships, and doing everything ndsu in the classy way they do is going to be what will continue to get ndsu the attention it deserves. The play on the field is what is going to get ndsu the attention it deserves, not conference affiliation.

I am not sure I could disagree more. Dominating any of those conferences will get us more recognition. But I don't want to move up unless we have the tools in place to be dominant....which makes the stadium issue for me very big. I don't want to move up just for the sake of moving up like some people do, I want to be very good. Until I see a plan for that I am on the fence...

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
Boise State, in an off year, just played in the Hawaii Bowl which will have double the ratings that the game on the 4th will. The Bison have had a great last three years and have gotten some great national publicity. But let's not kid ourselves. On the national stage, we are still small time. Let's change that and move up!

Hm, If only there was a place to look that up:
ACC 1-1
B1G 0-2
Big 12 4-2
Pac 12 12-14 5-2 against Utah otherwise 7-12
SEC 1-4
so 18-23 Is that "very good"?

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
Well since most of you believe you are better fundraisers than Gene Taylor, I say get out there and do it. Go raise the money needed for a new stadium. Go raise the scholarship money to afford 44 more scholarships a year. Go raise the money to pay our coaches more. Oh, and by the way, you need to do the last two year after year after year. We just struggled for years to raise $40 million with an amazing AD, so what makes you think this would be so easy? And the money is just a minor part of a move up. But go ahead and show us how it's done since it is so easy.

Yeah I would take their record in a second it is very good. Boise plays good or great BCS teams most of the time as well.
Anti-FBS crowders...there is a huge number of schools you can use to say going FBS is bad...heck one of those schools is in the same state as Boise. With that said trying to run down what Boise has done will get you nowhere.

Truth. Boise is a horrible example. No Damn way do we have a chance to be anything CLOSE to what Boise has done.
Their resources dwarf ours. It's really a stupid discussion. The proof of the depths of our pockets is staring us right in the face. It's called the SHAC and the fact that its simply a remodel and took forever to fund is glaring.

I don't think Boise has way more resources than we do, especially not when they were starting out and cutting their teeth at the FBS level. They just have a stadium that can be expanded at a significantly lower cost. Their success has allowed them to continue to fill their growing stadium. Unfortunately we don't have that same luxury, we have to build a completely new stadium and yeah that is a huge issue.

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
There are two bridges to cross before this debate has any merit. If these two needs get addressed, the move up could be considered. It would make more sense to be working at resolving these needs than arguing.
1: Get a conference invite for all sports lined up.
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...01_/invite.gifhttp://img.pandawhale.com/post-15133...tantr-ND6c.gif
2: Show me the money.
http://www.gurl.com/wp-content/uploa.../money-gif.gifhttp://media.tumblr.com/41b5f78c02cc...69W1rlpk9c.gif
Right now, I don't oppose moving. I don't support moving. I simply want the proponents to provide a business case rather than attempting to spend other people's money. Carry on.

Don't forget the money to add women's programs to meet title 9
..
But the 40 million taking forever would have been done along time ago hadn't we wasted our time with the Fargodome addition that happened at the peak of the recession. We changed plans too often

Boise 43 million, NDSU 16.8 million
We are a long way away from them. 30 million would take a minor miracle and we would need help from the state and some sort of TV deal
We could get into the lower 20s with our current resources but we tend to stretch our dollars further. Basketball is the only way to raise that kind of money

The fact is WE AINT GOT MONEY SO WE AINT DOIN SHIT AS FAR AS FBS! I do agree with some of the posters wanting to move up that the stadium issue is a big key in this whole thing. Right now a home game against Ferris State would draw the same amount of fans as a home game with Nebraska. A 2-1 with Minnesota would bring in less gate than 3 home tomato cans.

No matter how shitty he was treated that's a lame excuse. The team is bigger than a few people. Not sure how bad leadership can be given we are already D1 in every other program and are a top 25 football team. Time to put your money where the mouth is.

When the MWC invites NDSU we will have something to talk about. Seriously, why would the MWC incite NDSU? Fargo is way outside their geographic footprint. We don't bring a significant TV market. We don't have a big or expandable football stadium. We don't bring a region brimming with recruits for new conference mates to mine. We don't play basketball on their level. NDSU is a peer institution with MWC schools on several levels--but they don't care. They don't care that are fans would love to road trip to San Diego. Why should that? This is a club that we have to be invited to join.

I think we will be more attractive once we get our name out there and are viewed as commonly known program. Were slowly getting there. But we need to actually make some noise in basketball for that to happen like a signature win in the Big Dance. A more realistic path is the MVC or Horizon and/or the MAC. But these National Championship runs are doing wonders for getting our name out there. ESPN game day too. And what's been encouraging is we have shown solid ratings. Our reputation for a traveling fan base is VERY appealing but need that to extend to basketball
