Re: Verbal Commitments
Here's a JuCo transfer. Rob Mamula, a linebacker from Foothill College (Ca.) He's working as an usher at the BSA during BB games. He's a pretty nice guy.
The team he comes from is pretty good too.

Re: Verbal Commitments
Thanks for the info, Schemer.
In other news, the Chicago Sun-Times gives a pretty good idea of two of the coaches we should be thanking for the work in Illinois: Andy Rondeau and Glenn "I can drive from Fargo to Chicago in Eight and a Half Hours" Caruso.

Re: Verbal Commitments
OK, I've done some checking on the name Rob Mamula. It looks like he went to high school in West Linn, Oregon where he was a 6'1 230 LB and was an honorable mention USA today All-American. He also won the Oregon 4-A state championship in the shot put and placed high in the discus (in HS, he threw the shot over 57 feet and the discus 173-6. I believe that the Rivals recruiting site had him in top 15 fullbacks in the country.
After high school, it looks like he went to Kansas State as a fullback listed at 5'11 235. He must have transferred to Foothill JC at the end of his freshman year where they played him at defensive end and then moved him to LB after his first year.
I hope that he likes Fargo. He sure must have some serious explosion if he's tossing the shot that far while being 5'11. Looking at his height and weight, you'd think he'd be an inside linebacker but I wonder if he's used to playing outside.

Re: Verbal Commitments
Rob was telling us that Bruce Saum did most of the recruiting. He is pretty sold on NDSU. We drilled him with '20 questions' last night at Lauermann's. It was pretty funny....he just laughed at us mostly!
From what I understand Rob isn't a big fan of UC-Davis's coach.....Biggs, I believe. He wouldn't really go into it in detail....but from what I gathered, Bigg's tried to make it hard for Rob's transcripts to transfer or something. BTW, Rob's dad played for Mankato in college, like back in the mid 60's.

Re: Verbal Commitments
Am I understanding this right? Did Rob Mamula played at UC Davis?
-
Re: Verbal Commitments
Nope. Rob never has even been to Davis, is what he said....just phone conversations, etc. I think he was looking into the different schools, etc. and UC-Davis was on his list. What I stated was my take on what he was talking about. He didn't really wanna get into it....is what I gathered. Either way....I think UC-Davis lost out on this kid. Bruce Saum must have really convinced this kid NDSU was the way to go.

Re: Verbal Commitments
I doubt that Biggs intentionally more difficult for a player to get into Davis. I know that they do not do well with the JC recruits because of the admissions requirements. Also, they did have two JC linebackers from OCC who are both over well over 6'0 230 so it may have been a situation where he wasn't going to bend over backwords to bring in another LB (There were something like 28 linebackers in Spring practice last year).

Re: Verbal Commitments
Although this isn't a verbal, this story makes me wonder if NDSU might surprise us with an OH and PA recruit or two. This is the third player, including the QB they signed, that I've heard of NDSU recruiting out there.

Re: Verbal Commitments
Sue,
Who are UND's big recruits this year? I haven't heard much about them. Taking a look at the Bison's recruits, I would say they would pale in comparison.
