What service is rendered? I pay for my season tickets. This seems more like a donation.

Well, a) all cash receipts are presumptively income as far as the tax authorities are concerned. B) I thought there was a whole list of stuff on the collective’s website that the recipients were doing in exchange for the funds. C) let’s be real, their work is our entertainment. d) Or if this works better for you: you are paying them not to go to coastal Carolina or JMU.

What if I receive a financial benefit from the gift/donation/purchase? Is it ok for a business to benefit financially from this? Seems as though they do. Could Gate City Bank give money so more eyeballs see their marketing in the FFD?

It's taxable to the athlete.
