I would think that it would happen if any one of the P5 conferences gets consistently left out.

Well this year it looks like both the Big 12 and PAC 12 will be left out. Make it that way next year again and poof, there will be some major bitching from two conferences. Especially if say a G5 school with a very respectable schedule runs the table and just barely squeaks in the the CFP. Hey it could happen with the AAC. They have had like 5 teams ranked in the top 25 this year.

That's what i'm saying. Feels like Big12 and Pac12 (the latter especially) have a good case about this already.

When the contract is up I think they will expand playoff to 6 teams

Pretty good chance the Big 12 and Pac 12 get left out this year. Would be the 4th time in the 6 year history of the CFP that the Pac 12 has been left out and the 2nd time the Big 12 has been left out.

Yep. Every P5 conference winner plus 1 at large. Top 2 teams get a bye. 5 Bowl game tie ins = Perfect format for the P5's.

They pretty much give the G5 schools just enough to be their little bit...es

Approach the Big 12 (ten team fb conference) about adding NDSU, SDSU and having two, six team divisions, Big 12 North and Big 12 South, Similar to the Big 10.

The Mid-Am, Mtn West, Pac 12 all have a two tier, 6 team format as well.

I dont believe it's impossible by any stretch. There are a lot of teams in that conference that are not power houses by any means. With a full range of scholarships NDSU would not have a problem competing mid-level the first couple years.

Believe me - I would LOVE for that to happen, but the P5 dont add teams based on how competitive the football team is. the B1G added fricken Rutgers and Maryland for Goodness sake. They would never invite us, and especially not SDSU, based on the perception alone.

You're beginning make Chapo look rational in comparison.

The Big 12 has just short of an infinite amount of better options to get to 12 teams than NDSU/SDSU.

I could see SD and ND in thr big 12 after the big 4 come and clean them out to expand to 16 each... once ok and tex are gone to the SEC we arent much worse than the KS schools..

While i agree and think 8 is the right number, 6 would make sense with 1 & 2 seeds getting a first round bye. As long as the 5 conferences get autobids, i think it's a great idea. if you go to 8, i think you'd see a G5 or 2 sneak in. Could maybe even make the 8th one in an auto-G5 birth... spitballin

I could be wrong but they would probably keep it to all At Larges with only 6 teams.

Get rid of the stupid bowl games for the top 24 teams. Have a real playoff like every other sport known to mankind and be done with it. I'm tired of a few in P5 having a monopoly. Just like big tech the p5 power broker schools need to be knocked off their high horse.

you had me until the big tech comment lol- they only provide the most services for the most people at the lowest price point and have increased the standard of living exponentially around the world for literally billions of people- but yes- lets PUNISH those companies for innovating- THAT'LL SHOW EM!

I sure hope, for our own selfish reasons, Oregon makes it into the playoff. And to win it all would obviously be even better. To get the opportunity to play the defending FBS National Champs? Should we both win out, Champion vs. Champion!!

45k? Ummm... That's probably not going to be filled anytime in the near future, even with FBS teams coming to play. 25 to 30k would be big enough I'd assume.

30k would be plenty. If the stars aligned and the ball got rolling and expansion to 38k would probably be about it. Let’s just try to not have an empty seat in the Fargo Dome for the playoffs this year to start.

there will be empty seats if we dont get und or sdsu in the first 2 rounds.. no one is gonna go watch an exhibition game with furman or some such thing that will be over by halftime.

Oh I know just stating that filling the dome for playoff games is hard enough let alone throwing out a need for a stadium with a seating capacity of 30-40k.

Fargodome wasn’t filled completely when it first opened. 45k is on the way high end. There would be absolutely no point to building a new stadium at 25,000. Fargodome more than serves its purpose if that’s the only opportunity loss. 50% more seats at least or else we’ll never have a new stadium.

Indoors or out? Outdoors we are going to lose people.

It would almost positively be an indoor stadium otherwise we’ll look like SDSU and not the warm SDSU. I’m telling you an enclosed version of the Saskatchewan Roughriders Mosaic Stadium is the ticket. If I had enough knowledge on finding a rendering of it and was able to share I would. 33,350 with and expandable 40k option.

Attachment 9095 I can’t find the enclosed one but will continue to look. Cost was $278mill without being enclosed and I do believe that was in US currency.
