We are going to have to find other ways to move the ball than just pound our ball carriers against your stacked box all day long. And I honestly have no idea what that could be.
Wearing teams down hasn't really been our MO for a couple years. In the past we could line up and both teams plus a majority of the stadium knew what NDSU was going to run. It was a legit ground and pound offense. That has changed. Mess has opened up the playbook and it continues to grow every week. Folks may be able to predict a type of play (play action to the TE, outside run, zone read, etc) but the way in which those plays are executed are much more sophisticated. Also, wearing teams down comes less from our physicality and more from making teams defend sideline to sideline. Based on the lack of success with our run game between the tackles, my guess is we do it strictly to keep teams honest.

But was it a ‘healthy’ team?

Ok, I keep hearing from kitty fans how Anderson is something like we have never seen. So is Anderson better than any mvfc QBs the past 2 years? If so who?

It's genuinely possible we have never seen a linebacker pressed into emergency service as a QB promoted as a legitimate QB.

Ok, I could buy that, but I don't think thats what they are selling. I think they mean his qb ability...running the ball and or passing the ball off the run......explosive plays He certainly is not Christian and or Strevler

Re: Montana state playoff game
I'm sure some Cat fans mean it that way, but most just mean how unique he is and the offense we've built around him. That doesn't mean it's the best offense you've ever seen, or the best QB, because clearly it's neither of those. I mean we run QB power, we've run stuff out of the single-wing. Who the hell runs QB power and single-wing offense in 2018? High school football and Montana State.
He's just a special athlete, but above all he is a football player. There is a decent chance he'd be our best player at about half of the positions on the football field if he switched. He's just and old-school, Leave it to Beaver type All-American kid who loves football and has some exceptional athletic abilities to go along with.
Will he be the best athlete NDSU has ever seen? Probably not even this season. But it's a testament to his athletic ability that he can play a mix of LB/RB as a true freshman last year where he was the Big Sky freshman of the year, spend all spring ball at LB, literally switch to QB for player run summer workouts, win the QB job and then go 7-3 as a starter and be arguably the worst passing QB in the country. Because of the other things he can do, and his intangibles as a leader and a competitor.
It's just a remarkable story and I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it. So maybe you have seen something like this before, but I have my doubts. But that doesn't mean we are a great football team. I don't expect a W on Saturday, and I even expect Andersen to be contained. But it's been a season for the ages in more than just wins and losses.
We're just damn proud of our small town Montana boy.

I agree with him being a very impressive kid, but here is the thing. You asked....Will he be the best athlete NDSU has ever seen? The answer is no! And that is not a knock on Anderson, MSU or MT kids (BTW, I am A MT Kid). No, rather, it is an acknowledgment that NDSU has had its share and or played against extraordinary athletes. I can tell you for a fact Su has kids that could (yes) do just what Anderson did/does (usually we go the other way.... QB to you name the position tho), we have a sophomore that I would put money on that could do it...JCox is not alone.
I sat in a Cat booster bar and watched the kid play against Word and while he showed he was a good player, he did not show he was great or more elite than the horse type" kids that are here and or we have played against. Again, that was just one sample.... so I get my sample is small. I just did not see the superior above the best athletics when I was looking for it and was being told all about it. FYI not smack.
Also you said... "we run QB power, we've run stuff out of the single-wing. Who the hell runs QB power and single-wing offense in 2018? High school football and Montana State." I think if you do that the entire game against SU, who like I am suggesting has a lot of talented kids and handfull of really talented kids, your teams will have minimal success.
And finally since you asked over on your BCN.....We play SDSU whose line is big and QB can run and throw....Walter Paton candidate. Last Year we played USD another Walter Payton runner-up...and they would run some QB power, Again he could also throw so with both of those two we have/had to play it very honost. SO yeah, NO its not new.

Agreed. This year especially we have been starting games by passing to open up the run game. It's been refreshing to see them taking when the defense is giving instead of running straight into a loaded box. With Stick dropping mostly dimes down the stretch it's been a fun ride. That laser at SIU on 3rd down to Cain threaded between 3 defenders was a "You can't stop me" type of throw.
