I would assume yes. However, last year and especially the Semifinal game against JMU, our OC seemed heck-bent on running the ball through the A and B gaps. Yes, there were outside runs, but not to the 50/50 ratio.

IMO the play calling is much better.
Re: GDT: NDSU vs. Eastern Washington
It's great to finally have rb that are explosive. Makes such a difference that both lance and Bruce can make guys miss and take it to the house on every play. Frasier and Morlock were to slow to scare defenses.

I heard Ty Brooks' interview on 1660 last week and he was asked about the differences between Polasek and Messingham. One thing I found interesting was he said Mess doesn't care who's on the field for a given play, but Polasek wanted specific personnel for every play (I think that is what I understood anyway). Seems like opposing coaches could pick that apart on film...

Slightly off topic, I heard the Iowa Hawkeyes Sports writer talk about the win against Cyclones last week and they like how their RB Akrum Wadley was used in that game. Looks like Coach P is doing some good stuff in Hawkeye country.

I was at that game. Wadley is a stud, but they actually didn't have that great of a day running the ball compared to what Iowa usually does against ISU. 4.0 YPC against a pretty inexperienced and thin but improving Cyclone front 7, that has last year's starting QB now playing middle linebacker. Wadley had a couple ridiculous runs on dump offs out of the back field, very elusive.

what would how the RB is used have to do with TP? If you meant he blocking ability of the O-line then yes, if you mean play calling he is not the OC in Iowa unless something has changed, he is the Oline coach

I think Conor Riley being run game coordinator has/will make a difference. Very intelligent guy, like scary smart. Him and Messingham working together will pay huge dividends.

I have the feeling these two coaches (Riley - Messingham) are going to do the best coaching job for you this year. By mid season, you are going to have an exceptional running game.

By mid season? I would say we are doing quite nicely. Riley has been amazing since he got here (especially during the transition). He recruits an attitude. He is as intense as they come. At Eastern we were without our starting FB, our best blocking WR and our starting LT and we embarrassed them physically. Eastern was dead. Messingham has been terrific. Really impressive recruiter as well. A lot of great experience.
