Is there anything about joining the Big 12 that says you need X amount of sports? if there is do we offer that many?

You know, regardless of the shots you guys take at me and Iowa State, we do get to play a season of Big 12 games. I understand the envy.
P.S. The early predictions have Iowa State finishing third in the Big 12 this year. Yes, 3rd! As in the power trio of Oklahoma, Texas, and Iowa State!

Uconn shutting down FB or staying as an Associate?
Even so there are many C-USA teams or some Suck Belt teams that will fill a void if...if one is created

Why would they? UConn is not a football-only member. They are not going to be allowed to be a football-only member, why would the conference allow anyone else to be?

But the AAC will try to fill the void that UCONN is leaving by switching I would guess, Who fills that ODU, FIU, FAU from CUSA or do they go down to the SBC and take an APPy or Georgia Southern??
AAC is trying desperately to Elevate themselves and still use the #power6 name but they have a pretty poor field to pick from to bring anything to the table..UCONN leaving drops their BBall status a bit, and GSU or Appy would probably be better on the FB side anyway

There is nothing of any import that can be gleaned from any twits.

App State would be an interesting add to the AAC.

I have it on good authority FCS power Colgate will be replacing UConn, not JMU.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
So with UConn leaving, some of the latest rumors floating around is that to get BYU to the American, the AAC might have to grab a couple front range schools to bring with them. If that happens, it could be the opening we need to make the move to the MWC with Montana. I know some here hate FBS, but let's face it. As awesome as Frisco has been and winning championships never gets old, most of our peers have moved onto FBS. It's like the early 90's in D2 all over again.

I don't know anyone that hates FBS. It is a disagreement over the feasibility of making the move. I won't rehash all of the arguments as everyone is familiar with them ad nauseam. I am assuming the AD and President are aware of them as well.

The MWC is the wrong direction for our recruiting footprint as well. It's easier to recruit when we play in the area the athletes are from. That's not to say we can't be successful in the MWC. It will just be a lot harder than say the MAC.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
keith brake with a ndsu fbs article that was alot of hot air. this guy should be able to quote a ndsu admin or at least interview 1 or 2. Not 1 journalist has put the ndsu admin feet to the fire with legit probing questions about FBS.
I just feel like we are wasting some amazing years and financially viable years...
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I actually thought it was pretty good is night as to why it makes no sense for NDSU to move up now or really anytime soon unless alignments change. But that's most likely why you didn't like it.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
As long as there are 2 D1 FB teams in ND, NDSU moving up is not an option, so make the best/most of it. I would say we’re doing an excellent job in that regard.

Heres a quote
Matt Larson
"""we have no plans to move to the FBS in the near future and were are very happy where we are at playing for championships ."""

Meh... "Near future" sounds like political wordsmithing. That's a totally non committal answer.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
where is that quote. show the link, else its poppycock.
from Wisc HS rivals page:
"CMU also fulfills my dream of playing tight end at the highest possible level, the FBS"
sorry, but a large percentage of HS kids will take FBS over fcs 95% of the time.

Keith Brake works for the university, so maybe temper your expectations there.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
well once again. a journalist in Fargo/ndsu media doesn't have the guts to force some hard hitting questions on the admin about FBS

Maybe its a non issue for the university at this time. Where does the money come from? Where does the conference come from?
As for money. Things are way different locally and regionally with discretionary income floating around. So be it at the donor level or the state level. The ability to raise money will be difficult to say the least.
Conference. Where are you going to play? Although the power conference(s) have seemed to calm down, there still exists the opportunity that more change is in the future. Which if NDSU were in the FBS and the new guy, they could be left out.
Maybe current spot is working. Look at the attention the school gets whether from the FCS football, making the big dance in basketball, softball and track and field success. Maybe that means the needs of the university as they try to grow other programs in addition to the football program.
Sometimes its okay to be the big fish in the pond you are.
