Doing what he does best. All about the clicks. Lots of bitterness from WDAY vs FM media.

Jorgenson is not above criticism in my opinion. What does that have to do with the Gophers? Ski u mah is in a different situation. Jorgy can point to the scoreboard.

You missed my point... There are often comments on this board about Forum communications being hard on NDSU (McFeely specifically). I offer up the twin cities media as a comparison. If you read Ruesse or listen to Barreiro on KFAN (the home of the Gopher broadcasts) and their coverage of Minnesota athletics, I would argue NDSU gets very favorable coverage by the local media.

Sure I agree with you on the coverage disparity, but to be critical of what NDSU has done and is doing is simply a hot take. I am quite guilty of the armchair takes myself.
To be critical of what Minnesota has done and is doing... Possible room for improvement there.
That being said 1660 is homer radio similar to Paul Allen and the vikes- but Phil Hansen has pretty critical takes on game day. They have the best access and it’s a good format to hear the coaches- who really don’t need the reporters to hit them with the challenging question anyway.
Forum criticism has learned to play to what the fan base will accept before tuning out and provides decently balanced coverage.
Reusse is usually spot on and I like that he recognizes NDSU is continually superior to the Gopher team. Not afraid to call a spade a spade.
I avoid Barreiro.

So you avoid the best talk show host in the entire area but love Reusse who peaked probably 15 years ago because he points out NDSU is more successful?

Let me shift the focus a bit... How does the media in Fargo treat Dave Richman. In the twin cities he would be slaughtered.
Reusse, Barreiro and others were all ready cutting into Fleck before he hit town. Anyways I stand by my point, NDSU has a relatively friendly media market (even McFeely).

Yes- friendly market overall. NDSU has valuable media content for the market and I think the fans will only accept so much criticism before tuning out.
If NDSU had hired outside for football there may have been more suspicion about the incoming coach.
Richman is getting a chance- fans come here to complain “privately” and even here the decorum is held to a pretty high standard via self policing and admin.
I have not been a fan of Richman, but would not be cool with a media person going after him much more than they have.

If things don't change drastically this year Richman needs to go.

I agree- my question is: if Fargo media goes after Richman hard, does the overall market tune in?

Fleck and his clown show are a bit of a unique situation. I don’t think Pitino the Younger came in for the same ridicule before he even started.

In comparison to Minnesota that's true but look at how the GF Herald's covers UND athletics or the Sioux Falls Argus Leader's coverage of SDSU athletics. You don't see NDSU get scathing editorials from media types but at they do report on any dirt they find and they do give criticism which I don't know if you ever see from those other two media entities to their respective FCS schools.
The U of Minnesota's lack of success and location are the main reasons they get media criticism. Being in a major metro you can't go war with the press as an AD or a coach because you'll either lose or you'll get damaged in the process. But look at how Nick Saban treats media down in Tuscaloosa to get an idea of what it's like at most big-time FBS schools. The coach and the athletic department dictate who and what the media writes about. It's an interesting phenomenon because in a lot of these big-time college towns like Tuscaloosa (AL), Norman (OK), Columbus (OH), Tallahassee (FL), etc the college is the big show in town so if the local sports media guys piss them off they lose their #1 source of readership. The same is true here for NDSU. The same isn't true in MSP for the Gophers.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
McFeely wrote an article about the Mountain West expanding and how they haven't called NDSU.
The vibe I got was "See?! quit being delusional, we aren't as attractive as you think we are to other conferences!"
Although he was right, It was interesting, that the article had nothing to do with Football, just basketball...... He never mentioned, or clarified that, yet the message was the same. "NDSU isn't attractive to other conferences and aren't even CLOSE to being attractive to other conferences, you morons!"
As far as I was aware, I didn't think we had a big NDSU to MWC for BASEKTBALL contingent. The only thing I've heard was NDSU to Missouri Valley basketball.
I would be very interested to know what the MWC would think of us if they did expand for football purposes.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Also, I have been listening to a few national college football podcasts recently, and I heard at least 3 separate ones mention NDSU as an FBS school in terms of talent, prestige, brand and program.
Not saying we have to move up or anything, but it seems to be consensus amongst hard core college football media types that we have a powerful brand that people would be very interested in if we WERE ever to move up.
Obviously they aren't concerned with logistics etc. but interesting to hear so many different media outlets whole-sale agree that NDSU is an awesome brand that they view as FBS ready

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Maybe the problem is the MW isn't attractive to us. Both the AD and President have consistently said we will always be at the second level of football.

Maybe in it's current form the MW isn't attractive for some very sound reasons. If it were ever reformed as a clear and distinct second level those reasons may fall away and a move up would be more attractive.

Just off the top of my head---Travel--team and fan, recruiting foot print, loss of traditional rivalries. Plus do all of the MWC teams want to travel to Fargo?
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
so Mountain West had their conference meetings in middle of July. Why couldn't Dean & Matt fly out to Salt Lake City and at least meet with their President's and AD's that day and at least shake some hands... hell take em out and whine them dine them .... them ?
its called SALES 101 why don't they even make an attempt?
that's seriously all I want to know, Neither of them have answered that, No one in this stupid media market has the balls to ask it.
When I asked it 2 times on radio point blank, they danced around it like JLO

HAHAHA, that's hilarious
and right now NDSU is in the 3rd level of football Power 5, G5, FCS, D2 D3

This would basically ruin almost everything that we love about Bison football. For what? A few more national TV games?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Why is traveling to Fargo a problem? We have an international airport right next to the dome with no ground traffic problems. Compare that to Wyo, Colorado State, Utah State etc where bus rides are required. I'll hang up and listen.

Those teams all have regional partners in the conference. NDSU would not.

1) they come to the main land for 2 weeks at a time.
2) they chuck the pigskin.
3) everyone gets to go to Hawai’i every other year.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
7 years of straight dominating fcs
7 years of subsidizing other schools with inflated ticket prices, our fan base traveling
7 years and our admin HASNT EVEN MADE 1 phone call or solicitation of mountain west or Mac or big 12

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Good article by McFeely: http://www.inforum.com/sports/footba...-fcs-level-now
JMU officials pretty much saying what I've been saying verbatim about the issue of moving up, especially in regards to a G5 conference.

Serious Serious Question:
With all the Attention and Exposure this Klieman to Big 12 Hiring is getting nationally amongst the college sports crowd.
Does the NDSU admin have the wherewithal to even comprehend just how BIG NDSU COULD BE?
The articles in the Kansas City paper, the ESPN report , the K State blogs... they brag up NDSU as how good of a FBS program we could be!!!
this should wake up some eyes.

With the AAC's new media deal I think it time to argue about this more

I think its inevitable. The AAC has multiple programs that can produce a top10 caliber team, and it took literal disasters to keep UCF out in 2017 and 2018, missing games against their best opponents.

Why would the SEC, B1G, ACC, Pac-12 and B12 want to add another to the mix? AAC has programs but not THE programs, the other conferences will poach the teams they want before they allow a whole group to the table IMO

My brother and I were talking today, he's heard/seen rumors that B1G is going to make a hard run at Texas and Oklahoma. IF this were to happen, who does the Big 12 get to replace them?

They raid the MWC, Colorado St and well pick from there but Utah St. Doubt BYU would be on the radar
Either that or Cincy and Houston

If those rumors are true, those two are as good as gone. It makes sense I guess. If you’re going to add Nebraska …
CSU and UH and they won't even hesitate. MWC will backfill with a TX school and AAC will just add another non-football

Re: A new and better FBS thread
If they did want us that does not necessarily mean we want them.

At least as of a few years ago, Texas had a deal where their TV revenue was not split with the rest of the conference. If that is still true would they give that up or would the BIG go along with that?
