Got to figure out how to stop these runs they keep giving up. TO's and scoring droughts are killing them.

They've done a great job keeping it closer then I expected though. Can't fault our guys effort at all!
Game over. Hung in there for all but the last 6. Keep it within 15 to not look like schmucks.
Good experience for this young team. The future is bright for us come conference and the rest of non conference. We can make some noise on the prettiest fat girl list (midmajor)
When they are good...they are good....but this team is REALLY up and down. Probably chalk that up with inexperience.
well that was disappointing... :/
Good effort but way to many mistakes and careless turnovers. Credit Iowa State, they are impressive. Great learning tool for this young team.
Go Bison!
Rough second half, not enough length and shooting to take down a team like ISU on the road.
Good experience though in a tough environment against a great team. I like these games.
Iowa State an EXPERIENCED team first off.....huge advantage
PLUS at HOME...
Bison played well overall----first half had lead towards last two minutes than Cyclones go on 9-0 run to end half to get their 6 pt halftime lead was huge
AJ Jacobson only playing 4 minutes first half was huge too
Bison took care of the ball---12 turnovers is a good number---just that Cyclones scored off them in transition
AJ & Paul played well----Carlin solid, just wish could finish more shots in paint, his athleticism can create his shot against anyone
Khy needs to take mid range shots for now-----don't settle for 3's
Malik needs to make 3's to help out----did get some points off drive---improvement
Dex struggled---- 2-9 not good for him
ALSO REMEMBER---missed our TOP DEFENDER and SENIOR leader in Kory Brown---i know he can't score but hustle, defense, and putbacks around hoop HELP A LOT
so HEADS UP BISON as WALK INTO LOCKERROOM TONIGHT----FUTURE IS BRIGHT---KEEP PLAYING HARD & TOGETHER
Tough team but as a coach you have to be disappointed with that finish. Turnovers killed us late and we saw ISU's talent shine through and blow open a 20-point final deficit. Really, though, we're sitting pretty good with a 4-2 record and our only two losses being to P5 teams (including an Illinois team we led at halftime). Wish we could have that Illinois game back.
I was concerned with how this team would respond without LA and thus far am impressed. Miller has emerged as a reliable scorer and we know what Dex is capable of inside. I'm eager to see where we're sitting once the conference season rolls around. Get some consistency and we could have a FOURTH STRAIGHT 20-win season, which is insane for a mid/low-major team.
Tough loss but all in all we're sitting pretty good.
A loss is a loss, but it was 52-50 with 12:06 left which at least made for an interesting majority of the game.
I don't get everyone chalking this up to being young....seriously, of the guys who played meaningful minutes tonight(more than 10 minutes) ONE is a true freshman, and three are sophomores with two of them having a full year of playing already, including an NCAA tourney game...you can't possibly consider that young and inexperienced...this was a 20 point loss. I don't care if it was close with 11 minutes left, in today's game, most teams on an average night, can hang until mid 2nd half before the blowout begins. I'm not saying this team isn't or won't be good, but lets have a little more expectations from them and stop carrying on about how good they played considering they are "young and inexperienced". We only had 12 turnovers, which is not a terrible amount, probably pretty average. They did not lose the game due to turnovers from inexperience. Iowa State shot terrible from 3, so imagine if they would have had a normal night from there...looks like we shot bad from there too, but so far this season we have.
I don't see the silver lining in a 20 point loss, even to a top 5 team(who by the way, is almost certainly not, Iowa State is typically overrated, i think the NCAA tourney has proved that).
Just my two cents, please flame away, i'm sure it's coming.
Just imagine how bad it would've been had ISU played with as much intensity as they do when KU comes to town. It was intriguing for 75% of the game...but when ISU wanted to, they put up a 20 pt lead fairly easily. And theyre never gonna miss that many first half 3s.
inspiring effort..but Im not gonna take away any positives or negatives.
Just not a good match up, overrated or whatever but ISU has length for days. Dex had no shot to do much, offensively it was all on AJ and Paul which is a lot of burden to put on them. Carlin had a good first half but then fell apart....Khy was just overmatched but he is a true freshman.
This is a game where I think Gue would have helped but I am glad he is taking a year to get better.
Not a terrible game. Certainly some great positives to take away. Kory Brown was missed big time and we need everybody when we play a top 5 team. Wish we hadn't peed down our leg late because the final score is deceiving. Should help us get ready for conference play.

BisonReport recap (only FM media there besides Scotty My Oh My)
Positives - Unfortunate for the foul trouble but AJ was scoring and was efficient against a top team. I would think this was a confidence booster. Paul Miller is a true scorer but he also plays big for a guard and I honestly wasn't expecting that aspect of his game.
Negatives - Falling apart late in games vs good competition is a bad trend to start. Time to track down Brock Jensen or Carson and see if some game closing mojo can't transfer over from the football guys. Also, I do love Dupree's quickness but I got over it last year when I watched him miss layup after layup....after layup after layup. If you're never going to finish shots then pass it
I hope you guys realize that was the number 5 team in the nation.... We hung around ... They simply are better.... Could be interesting next fall bison football might play a ranked team in football with Iowa losing 5 starters on offense and 4 on defense off the depth chart I found they will be returning their qb I don't see him leaving early
Nice job battling back. I have to say it was frustrating to see. The final score was not indicative of the game. Have to give you guys some of the credit for the cold shooting from 3. We don't see that very often at Hilton (last time I can recall was Kansas two years ago).
Interesting you guys didnt shoot well from 3, but still shot 50% overalll
Really good game for NDSU last night. Foul trouble limited AJ minutes and he was playing good. That dreaded scoring drought and turnovers really hurt. But to really hang with 4th ranked team in the country was nice. No I am not into moral victories, but I want to see the team play well under tough conditions and they did that last night. 3 games left in this road trip and lets win them all.
This ^
We not only hung around with our best defender on the bench, we were within a couple of buckets most of the game. A few shots bounce differently and who knows.
It's not like we were playing a Summit League team here. Top 5 Big 12 Champion. One of the best teams we have ever played. These guys are a 1 or 2 seed in the Big Dance. They win 99% of the time at home again anyone, much less us.
That right there is the definition of a young team. In contrast ISU started 4 Seniors and a Junior. We only have 2 seniors, one of whom didn't play and another who is playing limited minutes as he's still coming back from injury. You have to remember this is the first time these kids are in the spotlight, this is the transition to Paul Miller & AJ's team from LA. Khy is a freshman, Clements is essentially a freshman after only one year of JuCo ball, this is a whole different level of competition for him and then you have Dylan Miller filling in as needed as a true freshman as well. When 65% of your scoring is coming from Sophomores or younger that is a young team. These are 18-20 year old kids out there still learning the college game going against a top 5 team starting guys on their 4th or 5th seasons at the college level. Our guys will learn, just wait until Miller & AJ are seniors and this team will have plenty of experience, then we'll have the ability to win more of these games.
Well obviously age doesn't mean anything when you are in bringing lottery draft pick recruits every year.
For smaller programs it is a much bigger deal, not a shock our best teams were also the most experienced. This team will be very good in AJ and Paul's senior year if they can find/develop some other pieces around them.
Age means very little to Duke and Kentucky when they make up 9 of the 47 college picks in the NBA draft. To most of college basketball, finding players and developing them over 4 years is still the key to the success of their programs. There are a handful of programs that are doing nothing more than managing talent who are either NBA ready or just about NBA ready who have to go to college because of the NBA's age requirement. Even those coaches would like the NBA to dump the age requirement and go back to coaching young men for 4 years but will still take the one and dones who will take their program to a final four right now.
Every year there is a school who makes a surprise run with upperclassman who have built an experience driven team. The reality is they will be probably get cut short by a school with 3 or 4 NBA ready 19 year olds, but it can happen where you build a program with developing players. NDSU isn't going to recruit a bunch of one and dones and manage them one year at a time, so their hope is to build a developing program who can take a school by surprise once in a while. Their success will be measured against other developing programs, not the NBA one and done churning schools.
We will be salty in a couple years...I'm pumped...then I thought of these two being seniors and leaving the same year and it's going to hurt no matter how you look at it...
This is the most ridiculous statement of the year...top 5 or 10 for sure...
I would agree that night in and night out it would be tough to compete against top 5 schools, but who does except other top 5 schools? A game here and there? I don't see why not. It is still 5 on 5 on the court at a time and an experienced team can make good things happen on a given night.
Usually fringe top 25 teams can't really compete with top 5 teams in college basketball. It's the nature of D1. I love our football team, but I sure wouldn't want to have to play Ohio St or MIchigan St on their field and be disappointed in the guys if they can't hang with them for 60 minutes.
Yes, you guys are correct and I was unreasonably negative on the "negatives" aspect of my post game comments. Considering their program advantages and the experience discrepancy our guys played a good game. I do fully believe that this group will be capable of, and will knock of some high majors in coming seasons and I look forward to it
