The fact is they did not, and there will be even more issues next season.
You are absolutely correct that this team's inconsistency killed them. We never had anything we could count on game after game.
Although NDSU's team last year played very much like this years team, except for one thing. Steve Walker would not let the team lose. As horrible as the team played against Stephan F Austin including Walker, the made just enough plays to win.
Sam Houston, the defense had problems, where it was their fault or Bomar being that good. But once again Walker pulled them through.
Gophers was a team win, but without Walker, I doubt we win that.
Cal Poly, from what I remember we got killed for 50 minutes or so. They made a couple plays to somehow pull it out.
And we all know how SDSU ended up last year.
The 2006 2007 seasons will always be remembered in Bison history as the transition into FCS football. But these teams have also had the opportunity to play against a lesser schedule.
If this years team plays like they did last year in last years schedule, my guess is we finish 7-4 or 6-5. The reason we weren't was mainly because of one player, that will take a very long time to ever see someone come anywhere close to.
We need to find much more depth throughout the program so that when one or two players graduate, we can actually reload instead of dropping off as much as we did this year.

Maine couldn't even compete with UNI. They lost 40-15 with both of UNI's receivers out.
Re: The Toughest, Best, Premier FCS/IAA Football Conference
The CAA south is very tough, but the CAA north not so much. Teams like Maine avoided some of the top teams thanks to a favorable schedule. The CAA is definitely the class of the FCS this year but I still think the MVFC is just as tough because everyone always plays everyone.
Re: The Toughest, Best, Premier FCS/IAA Football Conference
It varies year to year, but the MVFC is NOT equal to the CAA as far as playoff teams, wins, and NCs in the last decade or so. Hey, the Big Sky has more teams left then the MVFC this year!

Appy is in the SoCon.

The only problem with the MVC is we imported too much weakness this season in the form of a couple of .500, Great West rejects..........

Excellent point spudnik, maybe you can start a push to get Valparaiso into the league and get NDSU out. Then perhaps UNI could have a weekend double header against Valpo and Indiana State since they're only a few miles apart. Maybe a Friday-Sunday deal even though UNI (no I'll say you since you use we when discussing UNI) probably wouldn't even need a one day rest.

Give him a break Izzy. He doesn't even know what .500 team means. Funny how SDSU/NDSU can come to this conference and take over spots 3 and 4. Let him spout off while he still can. It's easy when you're still playing after Thanksgiving. It won't be that way every year. They're still pissed that we were the pre-season favorite. This is about the only thing they can throw in our faces. Let's hope they can represent the conference better than SIU.

Where is the party being held for 4th place? Bet that will be a doozy given the way you guys came to Cedar Falls and laid it all on the line to "out tailgate us?!" Lakes, is it in your barn and are we talking Blatz Premium?!

Last time I checked there weren't any parties for 2nd place either. Hahahaha. What a goof. Come kick dirt in our faces when you win it all. Then we'll give you your props...
